the reason why SCIV has gone down is because there is no arcade version of SCIV
I agree with what your saying except the tekken part, tekken since some of the VF designers came on board has been very very in depth, maybe tekken needs a critical finiser system going too
soul calibur 4 systems future lies in special battle, eventhough there is a memory and self knowing game in the depths of soul calibur 4 it is still simplistic, the fact that its a constant battle of memory and knowing oneself is the very thing that stops people from taking it serious, theres no BIG reward for mastering your character, the only reward there is is in mastering the timing of the dance that exists in it’s system.
however, soul calibur 3 is fun because of the BIG reward of knowing and mastering space, time is the tool and space is the playground :wonder:
What are you talking about? There is a huge reward for mastering your character and spacing. I don’t even know how you could think otherwise… but the fact that you mentioned special vs might explain it all.
yeah I know i sound mad, but i hate special vs with a passion, so you may want to rethink about my post :wgrin:
mastering your character and spacing in soul calibur 4 asks for it with not much reward, that BANG!! YES! feeling isnt there.
it’s not widely liked for a reason, stop sugar coating it by stating something is there when the arguement isnt about whether its there or not, it has to be there. it’s actually about how much depth there is in it, sc3 focuses on spacing and sc4 focuses on everything else
ITs funny how people on this site say SC4 is not widely enjoyed, when it seemed like there was more hate for SC3, while others began to rejoice once they played SC4.
I think some people Don’t know what they want. Thank you CERN for understanding that NOTHING HAS CHANGED WITHIN THE CORE SC ENGINE and DevilDigimon for understanding THAT SC3 WAS THE MVC2 Of the SERIES AND IS TOO FAST FOR MOST PPL HERE TO HANDLE!!
scrubz
Im not as hard on the series as I was, after playing some offline for the first time in a LONG time, its not so bad. But the engine still could use loads of work, whatever.
“the system needs loads of work”
It’d be nice if you could specify said improvements. Funny how people can say stuff, just for the sake of saying it. Dont be a bandwagon dumbass.
VF is more fun than SC, truth!
btw hi Dinoz lawl
Maybe for you, but each time I go into training mode and find something new I feel that ‘bang’ feeling you are talking about. Each time I get pushed in a match and my character mastery is what allows me to reach the next level in my game I feel that bang. Whenever I even play the game against good people I feel great… so I honestly don’t know what you are even talking about.
The feeling is here for me and this is the first SC game that I’ve actually gone into training for hours at a time and genuinely enjoyed every minute. One day I even did a 6 hour marathon to practice execution / character matchups / to find new things. I have never had this kind of enjoyment in training mode before in a fighting game. Even once I had gotten all of my execution down and put extensive time into anti character strategies, I decided to devote a large chunk of my practice time into proper stepping in this game. For you to come in here and say that spacing and character mastery is not much rewarded is a slap to the face of many top players in this game.
Like I said, if you don’t enjoy the game for whatever reason that’s fine by me. Just don’t start saying completely incorrect statements about the game.
Also what do you even mean ‘not much reward’? Since the two things you mentioned often directly affect if a person wins or not, does this mean winning is not enough of a reward?
[edit] The 6 hour training mode thing is not an attempt at epeen waving. I’m sure others have done more and it’s no big achievement. Wanted to wrap that up just in case someone decided to make a post and derail the thread.
I would have gone but DrDogg never confirmed how much the pot was going to be, and basically left us with false hopes with his $2,000 pots. So I’m going to TIT instead.
+1.
SC4 isn’t bad, but Namco left it hanging with too many broken (e.g. not fun) shit. Hilde and Algol’s “screwy” (for lack of a better term) mechanics make it difficult for casuals to enjoy the game.
My guess is that SC: BD is going to fix a lot of balance issues, and if ever it’s ported back to the consoles, SC is going to have a resurgence of sorts.
You know i’ve never really been a big SC person until my sister picked up a used Soul Blade. Loved Blade, loved SC from the small time I played. I personally wasn’t a big fan of SCII. I don’t know why but it just didn’t hit with me so well. SCIII was alright. It had Tira so I can’t complain so much. SCIV has problems. Especially if i’m using Yunseong. It’s just my inner self crying for Bamco to just bring back Hwang.
anyways. all this hatred I hear about SCIII and SCIV has kinda made me want to go back and really play SCI as I didn’t get really competitive with SC until SCIII.
the hell? I LOVE soul calibur 4, ive defended the game since it was released, im talking about other peoples oppinion about the game, ive had that bang feeling going into training in that game within the first couple of days of its release
all games actually have that BANG feeling in training, sc4 even has more of it probably than most games in the improvement of the character, BUT WE AINT TALKING ABOUT TE SAME BANG FEELING. just look at doa’s and mk’s popularity eventhough the mechanics are brain dead simple, the bang feeling while fighting people you get is satisfying
wow i forgot how many dissertations ive wrote on this site to put my point across, good in a sense that people dont get diluted information or the wrong message
btw when I faced a very good seong mina player that had excellent spacing I was like “hallefuckingyulahhhh” its so nice to play the game without people constantly running upto you, it allows my abilities to come out and for me not to have to rely on stunning the shit out of everyone. after facing him I played it again as much as I did when I had it on 360
er no he doesnt … not really. he uses takis possession stance for its evasive movement. not step. not 8wr.
i’d say nice try… but it wasnt.
also my entire argument has been about how nerfed EIGHT WAY RUN got when going from sc2 to sc3 and then to 4.
people keep telling me about step… as if its the same thing as 8wr.
its not. people have said things about step guard being abuseable in 2… i agree.
i never said anything about step. i was talking about 8wr.
if i wanted to step shit i’d play tekken. i like running around arenas and feeling more control over my spacing via the 8way run mechanic. its just what i prefer in that series… and that mechanic is what the series was sold on, so i feel no remorse with not liking the direction that namco has taken the series.
i fault no one for liking the new game… its a stinking pile of shit, but to each there own, if you have fun with it more power to you. and in fact i’m glad people do like it, after all more fighting games means a stronger community. but i for one (and MANY people agree with me) dont like the direction fighting games as a whole are going in. i totally agree that leeway needs to be introduced for the casual gamers out there but i think that the way that companies are approaching it is wrong.but that discussion is for another time.

err… a while ago there was a threat that fighting games would cease to be, think of it as pulling in the funds in order to creat the fighting games you want in the future
but fucking hell seriously what more do you want? how many fighting games are out there, theres not even THAT much change in fighting games really, seriously what changes? and how can we make better changes if we’re always selling to a niche market? are you saying theres no depth in sc4?
woo my first rant since ive been back :encore:
I play SC4 and I main Taki. I know what I’m looking for. Mo steps an attack at 1:46, 2:15, and 2:57. He uses 22A and PO step to dodge stuff too, but according to you that doesn’t count.
Besides, he’s playing Taki. Maybe he isn’t walking around to control space so much because he’s busy RTSD?
I’d say nice try, but it wasn’t.
Then why are you complaining about people not dodging attacks with 8wr? 8wr == spacing, step == dodge.
Fixed for you.
Warning Decision Training Branch?
So exactly what makes the european version of SCIII better than all other versions? Did they fix the memory corruption glitch?
Doesn’t read
Fuck Soul Calibur.
