MoTempest actually steps quite a few things in the first match. What do you want him to do, 8wr horizontals?
KOF Maximum Impact?
Who cares if a 3D game is fast or not. That’s one of the least of my problems with SCIV.
And I hope you guys aren’t bashing Bloody Roar; that game is actually quite deep, has good mechanics and had moderate tourney play over in Japan.

Just because stupid Americans like to mashie teh buttons, doesn’t mean the game was meant to played that way.
I also highly recommend H2’s strategy guide for those that think this is just some mash-fest.
By the way, SCI had the best sidestep system too.
You have a point, shit is scary fast.
What fighting game doesn’t have moderate tourney play in Japan? I don’t know anything about Bloody Roar. But, that is a horrible reason to say a game is good.
Fast in what way? Death?
VF2. You can die in <5 secs via Lau’s CH juggle combo.
You’re right, it is a horrible reason.
So why not read the rest of the post and the links before you start typing?
The main reason it was brought up was because the game’s scene in America is non-existent, and the game has a lot of inaccuracies made about its system due to that.
BR4?
Oh. T6BR then. (Just realized… BR also stands for bloody roar).
Close enough:

It’s also a million times better than Bloody Roar will ever be.
After all, even if you make bloody roar run at the speed of sound, the game itself sucks, so this argument is really pointless.
“My dick is x100 bigger than yours!”
“But you can’t get it up, and you’re numb and paralyzed from the waist down, not to mention half your face is gone.”
“My dick is still x100 bigger than yours!!!”
The original Soul Calibur is still the best - why I retired the series. But saying SC3 is the fastest 3d fighter? Holy Fud. That game is really slow (slower than the original)… hehe
Not trying to derail this thread, but I did play bloody roar back in the day. I give every FG a go. I kept giving DOA a chance for fuck’s sake.
IMHO, if 3D fighters were to be ranked in terms of depth/fun/balance, etc. The list right now is easily VF5R > T6BR > SC1 >>>>>>>>> everything else.
(and I do not hate SC3. Setsuka is my main now. But SC1 was definitely more balanced than the subsequent SC’s, and the system rewarded how well you played your character, as opposed to the current leaning towards counter-picking setup that started in SC2, and grew from thereon since.)
I agree on not derailing the thread, so this will be my last response on BR…
XLCowBoy, I can understand you not liking BR, but the game sucking? Which one exactly? Because I don’t believe you or 99.9% of the people on SRK have played it much/properly before giving it much of chance. Now, BR1 was kinda broke, for example Mitsuko’s braindead easy infinite and Yugo’s loop, BR2’s Shenlong was a bit too powerful but BR3 and its upgrade PF are polished games, PF even more so save for the sidestep. BR4 just sucks.
Get back to me on my comments page or something, but there is NO valid reason to say the game is bad from a gameplay standpoint after studying its system and playing it properly - I highly suggest you give those links I posted above as well as the FAQ a look.
I get really tired of Americans dismissing the game on its mechanics when they don’t even know how to play it.
Hell I loved Tech Romancer (The game not the dude) and Bloody Roar back in the day for just good ol’ fun. But Soul Calibur 3 is pretty bad and it only got worse with 4 (IMO). It just feels like the games kept getting more and more clunky.
SC3 too much fun
Alright, maybe my comment was uncalled for (by saying the game sucks - after all, it is better than DOA), but would you honestly pick BR over 5R, 6BR, or SC to dedicate your time?
its something called virtua fighter. tekken is not the best, its just a more attractive game to the larger portion of the gaming market, a casual gamer will pick up tekken b4 vf. The producer of tekken him self said at e3 the main focus of the game is juggling. There is nothing wrong with juggling, but the average tekken match involves both players fishing for launchers and it looks stanky. There is ground game invloved but its just not a complete package like vf. One thing among others that i liked about vf, is that it never sold out the hardcore fans to make it easier for scrubs to play. You can play scrubby in that game but it wont get you anywhere
As for sc4 i think the game is pretty good, i know it has its issues, but when you actualy sit down and play offline in a competetive enviroment i think its just as enjoyable as any other fighter
CH 3B(cheif hold) A+B… big damage!!!
Soul Calibur Series is easily the most FUN fighting game out there. Easily more fun than any 2D or 3D fighter.
For people complaining about SC4 and its system (I skipped from pg1 to pg 12) its still the same game. Criticial finishes rarely factor in, and if they do, you should be evading/parrying not standing around blocking like its Tekken Or Street Fighter.
Soul Calibur also allows more freedom in how each character is played, as opposed to Tekken/SF where its memorize on block string and one combo and thats it.
you guys should get on top of Soul Calibur. I’m surprised this thread got 12 pages deep without me chiming in!!
Only a few posts in and it got it. I remember playing the original soul blade and pretty much falling in like with teh title. Then the beauty of Soul Caliber made me fall in love. Hours spent playing the title led me to buy 2 on the first day and play it the same way.
3 and 4 kind of fallen me back to like on the series. I mean, I still play it, but the thrill is gone…
I like SC a lot still and I don’t understand the true hate that some people here have for it. Maybe you just don’t like it anymore but it’s not like Namco gathered in a meeting room to figure out how to screw everyone over and kill the series, which is how some of you are acting.
