I played Soul Calibur 4 the other day & I was impressed but not impressed with some things with the game. For one the graphics & the presentation were good but at the same token the addition of the finishing moves for all the characters to me was like been there/done that when they had Critical Edge finishers from Soul Blade.Even the characters have fallen from grace IMO.Astaroth went from being a bad ass from Soul Calibur to a joke in SCIV.All of the characters stories are lame now(Rapheal was supposed to be going after Kilik because of the healing stone but didn’t,Maxi still chasing Astaroth & has been unsuccessful & the Taki storyline is boring)
I’ve gotten to the point where I realy want to give up on the series but don’t.Do you guys think the Soul Calibur series has fallen from grace?
You know, if the series had started out sucking/borderline mediocre like this, I wouldn’t really care that much, but since SCI and too a lesser extent SCII, show me how great this system can be, it only becomes that much more of a stab in the back.
There is nothing keeping me and my crew from .
SC2 was the best entry in the series flat out. don’t even get me started on splitting nightmare into nightmare and Siegfried(+Roy). i really wanted to like 3 and 4 but yea… sadness
I liked SC because it’s a weapon-based fighter which is cool. I like it more than Tekken. But yeah, I don’t have much a local scene here, and if only the netcode was better I’d be playing it some more.
Or actually, it just takes so much to learn before you can get good in the game. Having to know all the characters high/low moves/mixups before you stand a fighting chance is too much for me.
Aside from gameplay though, the story does suck. Especially in SC4. Pathetic.
Soul edge = Soul Blade, that was changed due to the territory it was released in…
SC1 is the best in the series.
I think SCII gets more love because 1) many people haven’t played SCI enough to appreciate it, 2) it has more characters, 3) it had a mutli-platform release and its tourney scene had more attention than SC’s did. Other than that, it makes the system a lot more linear and too accessible in many ways for my taste, but it didn’t really devolve until SCIII came out (which had even more problems by itself).
It is okay for casuals, but I think more people should truly experience SCI before calling SCII the “best”.
I didn’t really liek SC2 a lot to be honest, it’s fun but…I dunno something about it felt a bit off. I never really got into SC1 so can you tell me what about it makes it so good?
I’m talking about the arcade version. The name was changed for the PSX version. I’m mainly responding on how you say Soul Edge/Blade isn’t the same series as Soul Calibur when they’re exactly the same series
Edit: By territory, you probably mean just the Japanese version.
The problem with SC4 online was the absolutely downright horrendous input lag. People could spam unblockables and win perfacts simple because it was impossible to move out of the way because of input lag. Seriously, it went up to nearly 3 seconds of input delay. Absolutely atrocious, AND it was on a green bar connection.
Also, disconnecters are a big problem. Although its a pretty hefty exp point fine for ragequitting, there is no DC percentage for the world to see, so no one will know.
i think a lot of the people on sc2’s nuts forgot what happened to the game when RTD and mick started running shit
whenever they were involved, it became the cvs2 of 3-D, and nobody could beat them in their prime so…
dan the nightmare from france was the same way too, those of you who went to evo2k3 may remember him as the 4 or 5-move nightmare who won the whole thing.
