Venator seems like it’s gonna be the new flaming helmet.

Until they add flaming Venator.

Until they add blue flaming Venator.

Until they add skull flaming blue Venator.

FUckIng gimmicks.

Where the fuck is my ODST helmet?!?!?!

Arbiter plot was written by a 12 year old with down syndrome and don’t get me started on the hivemind what a fucking cop out, I admit dual wielding is cool and Halo2 had a few moments but overall 2 and especially 3’s campaign were dogshit made for idiots that just want to hold down the r trigger nonstop.

haven’t played Reach, but seems pointless now that 4 is out:rofl: When I buy 4 I really really hope online multiplayer doesn’t devolve into whoever gets BR, sniper, and rockets first. I want Promethean weapons to actually be good.

Mighty Ape. It’s a store in New Zealand.

Found out HMV are doing it but you can only get it by preordering in store. Can’t be arsed to go there, so I’ve just preordered from Game which has 6 specializations unlocked as well as a blue circuit armour and arctic weapon skin.

Not showing the MC’s face at all is a big problem…not to mention the whole Gravemind thing.

I thought the Arbiter’s storyline was far more interesting in Halo 2, the main problem was that he had all the cool shit. His campaign outshined Chief’s IMO. Of course Bungie totally blew it with the finale of the game, just when you think Chief and Arby are gonna go team up mode, they kick you in the balls with that cliffhanger. I was actually pretty disappointed that Halo 3 relegated Arby to “AI teammate who runs forward and gets shot so you can pick up his sword” Even when he finally killed Truth it felt pretty hollow…

Curious to see where the Halo 4 story goes…I’ve been trying to avoid plot spoilers, but Dr. Halsey has been mentioned as being in the game…wonder if the Chief will meet up with Fred, Linda and the surviving Spartan IIIs that went into the DysonSphere in Ghosts of Onyx novel.

I’m sorry, but what the fuck do you expect from a first person shooter? If you want an interactive cinematic then go play Uncharted or something. (And don’t get me wrong, Uncharted is great as well.)

But I really don’t understand all the hate that two gets for the Arbiter and Gravemind. Yeah, when I was a kid and was playing it without giving two fucks for the story, playing as The Arbiter was annoying. But when I came back and actually played it for the storyline, I enjoyed the concept immensely, and it allowed me to enjoy the campaign on a totally different level. Loved the concept of running through the middle of the bruteXelite civil war. The game just had a really great buildup.

Also, why is Gravemind such a copout of a character? It’s a lot more interesting of a concept than just this parasitic lifeform coming from out of nowhere and fucking with several species for centuries on end for no explainable reason. Gravemind is the collective mind of all biologic life in which The Flood consumes, which has gained self awareness through this very same process. I loved the part in Halo 3 where the flood help you, and then turn on you. I didn’t see either of those things coming honestly.

Halo 2 is my favorite campaign to this day because of it’s amazing pacing, as well as it’s diversity in setting and surroundings. And honestly, just a lot of awesome shit happened. Like when you had to cut those cables and the entire complex starts falling for miles, or being able to fit a Banshee into the last boss room if you were willing to try and get it in there for 20 minutes, or watching MC shoot through space and level an entire carrier by himself with a sub-atomic alien nuke. These kinds of moments make me love Halo.

I respect the fact that you may not like the games, but why try to make others feel like dumbasses for liking a damn game? In fact judging by your posts it doesn’t even seem like you really even like the franchise that much at all; why are you even posting here?

Never show MC’s face. He’s a symbol, not a man.

He’s the man I could never beeeee, the hero [S]Gotha[/S] Earth deserves and probably the one it neeeeeds.

B-But I liked the Arbiter =[

if you liked H2 campaign okay cool your opinion is no more or less balid than mone, but that doesn’t change the fact that it’s content as well as the pacing of it was hastily and lazily made compared to 1. Often when a game sells well especially an FPS, the developers are put under enormously stressful deadlines for the sequels which in turn compromises most if not all of the team’s artistic aspirations for a memorable experience. I admit there were some really cool moments in H2 and taking down a scarab the first time in 3 was awesome but both games were just generic, shooting galleries, which is especially sad since H1 campaign was so GDLK.

The juxtaposition of turning the covenant into cannon fodder while simultaneously trying to give players a clearer understanding of them via the arbiter plot was laughable. And yes I realize pointing out the flaws of an FPS campaign is like making fun of the rims of a Benz since all most people care about is multiplayer but besides speed issues and weapon balance halo multiplayer haas been awesome so not much to complain about there.

I’m kind of excited to get back to Halo since its been 2 years, how’s everyone liking the new weapons?

I wouldn’t call Halo 2 lazy at all. In fact the label I would give it is “too ambitious” considering they had to cut tons of content cuz they realized they would never be able to get it done otherwise. That’s not lazy. That’s aiming for the moon and landing amongst the stars.

Can you go into more depth about what made Halo1 less a shooting gallery then the sequels? It’s a FPS claiming a shooting gallery as a flaw makes no sense to me, the point of it is to shoot things, something you do a shit load of in Halo 1, especially when the Flood finally show up. I guess I’m not understanding what makes Halo 2 and 3 more shooting galleries then Halo 1.

The soundtrack was the only part that was really off in 2 for me.

I learned that pre-ordering i s a waste, lol.
You’ll be able to buy everything sooner or later

Except certain limited editions. And for some, especially if multiplayer is important, day 1 is everything.

It was more the introduction to Gravemind that was poor rather than the concept. The technology at the time just wasn’t enough to make him really seem intimidating(see the concept art of GM vs. H2’s in game rendition). Bungie clearly wasn’t satisfied with it, since he’s relegated to a more psychological antagonist in Halo 3(did he even appear on screen? It’s been a few years since I played it)
They vaguely touched on the Flood having intelligence in Halo 1 when Spark mentions the Flood are repairing the Truth and Reconciliation, but Gravemind went a bit far…spouting rhymes…I don’t want to say the series jumped the shark with GM, but he diminished the Flood for me after that. I liked the idea of the Flood not having any motive, they’re just driven by pure instinct and hunger(similar to the Xenomorph or the Thing creature)

if you haven’t read the Halo Cryptum novel…but this is what I got from it

Spoiler

There’s a character called the Timeless One who is vaguely described, but is the final imprisoned survivor of a race called the Precursors, who created the Forerunners, and then were destroyed by them. The indication I got from the novel is that the last Precursor turns itself into the Flood to ensure it’s survivability, but more importantly to get the ultimate revenge on the forerunners.

For me, having no motive, no “lead Flood” was just scarier.

That’s exactly what I want to avoid, I need to spend as little as possible on DLC.

The sense of exploration, the scale of the levels, the sheer amount of surface area you cover in H1 is more than H2/H3 combined. I really enjoyed Halo AE, I was surprised at just how much longer the game felt compared to the sequels, and the new paint job on the second half of the game erased the redundancy of backtracking through the opening levels like the OG version. Pillar of Autumn is mazelike, you can wander around and find small pockets of action you can easily miss. Halo was a massive stage with 3 main objectives but you weren’t forced into doing them in any particular order. The variety was there as well as the scale. You went from Spaceship, to Grasslands, to Alien ship, to the Beach, to a Snowy Battlefield, etc.

H2…The main criticism I’d level against H2 for being more of shooting gallery is the sheer amount of moving platforms and elevators you spend time riding, shooting enemies while Cortana is plugging away with exposition. Far too much of that shit. H2 had some great set pieces, but they’re all in the first half of the game. Once the ODST pod drop stage is done, the game lost a ton of steam. Didn’t have time for to really go into it’s story because of the character split, so you’re less engaged and just going through the motions. The health recharge system made it preferable to just hide and pop off shots from cover, where H1 it felt like you had to do something to press forward. The stakes were higher. The game is too short as well…it’s really only 7 medium sized stages with cinematic split ups to make it 13 levels. I thought the Halo AI got progressively dumber in H2…you could literally sprint through half the stages while the Covies/Elites/Flood were tearing eachother apart, the majority of the time the fights didn’t matter. There wasn’t enough stand-off sequences like H1, where you *had *fight your way through. Plus the increased jump height was something that confused the AI to no end. Oh, and how could I forget? Plasma Pistol/BR. Duck and cover, one shot kill.

H3…again, the short levels. Too short. The campaign scoring was a cool idea, but once you glanced at the Par Times for each stage and most them were 15 minutes:wtf:, how could the game be anything but short and blunt. It’s much better game than H2 IMO, and H3 is what Bungie was aiming for for H2, but the stages just become short incidental shooting sequences where you kill everything and the stage is over. Once you hit the Ark things get a lot better, but it still feels like you’re being herded along into one battle after another, but never quite enough enemies hitting you at once.

The final level in H3 where flood are like fucking EVERYWHERE sucked.

It also really sucked cuz you thought it was gonna be a long Assault on the Control Room-like finale, and they drop you right outside a couple of hundred feet from the door.:shake:

See, I view it differently. How would a creature of primal instinct be scarier than one in which is lead by intelligent design? The Gravemind is a massive hub of self awareness, and he can (As far as we know) remotely command this entire species of a parasitic lifeform. They don’t live off of instinct, they have drive. Purpose, intent, intelligence. A singular goal in which the entire expanse of their species works towards through a single hive mind. Just think of how destructive ***humans ***as a species could be if we had the ability to work as one singular mind. You don’t think a violent, mutated monstrosity of a lifeform could do even more harm?

I dunno, it’s just how I feel. I love Gravemind, he’s one of my favorite characters in the Halo franchise. Maybe they’ll work him around some way in 4 (if he appears) that will make him a more generally liked villain.
