Hakan Lab

Some questions please:
What are Hakan’s anti air options?
What are his wake-up options? (other then blocking and backdash)
What are some good pokes to use as him?
What’s the use with EX slide and EX Oil dive?

Thanks in advance

I had a lot of trouble with finding anything good as an anti air at first. f.LP and st.HP seem to be solid for anti-airs. I’ve also heard slide mentioned a couple of times. Also, j.MP works pretty well and combos into slide or U2 for some good damage. You can just try to get away as well with slide, f.MP, or cr.HP.

Wake up can be tricky I’ve found. His SPD is 3 frames and has terrible range if not oiled up. If you’re oiled up EX 360p is pretty useful, as well as his regular 360p. If you’re not oiled up though, try not to go for it. If they try to jump in, you can just slide away to safety. Then there’s always your ultras, which frankly are your best (but limited) options.

A lot of his normals are great. Personally, f.LP is still my favorite poke. Good start up, crazy range, and it interrupts a lot. His f.HP is really good too, even when not oiled. A couple moves that I think seem really good but I haven’t messed around with them to much yet are f.MK and cr.MP.

EX slide is immune to projectiles. If your oiled, it’ll punish them from full screen. Careful though, it has surprisingly bad range when you aren’t oiled. EX oil dive…eh, it’s grab immune but I think that’s it. It has the same start up as the HK version too, which is the worst. Honestly, I don’t think there is too much use other than the damage, which is pretty damn good.

I have alot to say about U2 and Coward Crouch

U2 you can sometime hit with it on wake up…
For example…
Say if you knock opponent down… You can jump over and do u2 and if they even move or press a button previous to the animation they get hit…
I have done that several times
It also has a wider range then we think… The hit box ends abo

I have a lot to say about U2 and Coward Crouch

U2
-You can sometimes trick people into getting hit with it on wake up…
by knock them down with…,With silde follow up or f-RH…
-You can jump over and do u2 then even they press a button prior to the animation they get hit…

  • Also this tactic works good for people who like to mash out DP on wake up…

Also… s.fp his good on wake up and his far as hell…
You can dash back when ur doing most of his normals…
Backing yourslef into the corner with Hakan can a be good thing in certain situations.

Well when you’re waking and not oily, if the opponent is very close to you, ex spd has a few invincibility frames and can beat grounded meaty attacks. If he’s outside of just more than normal throw range, you’re pretty well screwed. If you’re oily, you can beat all non-chained meaty attacks with wakeup focus dash normal cancel low short or low mk xx slide+followup, or you can do ex spd which has great range when oiled. If you think the opponent is gonna throw, ex 360k is unthrowable and has nice range both regular and oily. Ultra 1 beats normals, Ultra 2 beats crossup or other meaty jump attacks.

Thanks for the replies guys. I really like how helpful the community is on these boards

Some stuff I wanna mention

1)d+HP is sometimes pretty good at getting out of cross up or jumping in situation, it doesn’t hit the opponent but you can avoid getting hit by going under them and maybe set up a 360P or get some breathing space, must be done early during their jump animation can’t wait till last moment

  1. I’m sure most of you are doing this, but if you knock them down infront of you then do lk oil into U1 or U2 I find this pretty effective obviously depending on character one is more effective than the other

-LAU

can you U2 after a blocked DP?

can you perform U1 after a DP canceled into follow up grab?

also I wish his command grab beat normal grabs x.x and st.lp is indeed a good poke. Thanks for the info

Hope it helps, but here’s what i’ve got:

-j. mp combos with U2 and oil slide
-ex oil slide has some invincibility on start up
-ex oil shower has invincibility against projectiles
-jumping H. punch is similar to E honda’s. Seems to move the hitbox upwards
-super is a good reversal (not sure as an anti air); similar to abel’s l.p. super; Hakan’s super can punish back dashes, jump backs and teleports (On sim at least; haven’t tried against bison and akuma).
-his spd has horrible range (with oil is a different story) definitely worse than 'giefs and no better than abel’s tornado throw.
-his ddt is a horrible anti air, can be hit out of the animation. More for predicting an opponents jump rather than reacting on a jump in.
-oil slides if spaced properly can be safe

@Nhem Lee

thats wrong–>"-his ddt is a horrible anti air, can be hit out of the animation. More for predicting an opponents jump rather than reacting on a jump in."

you can Delay it after the opponent jumped away and land it when he is almost landing the HP has a hughe range the LP is more for reaktion!

so yeah what does “ddt” stand for?

I’ve been using f.mp to combo into slide. It not only combos but it help closes the gap and it seems safe on block

You know I’ve had some success with fp+mp xx slide on block. Yes I know IT’S TOTALLY UNSAFE, but the slide catches so many people unexpectedly. The great thing is that when they are conditioned to wait for the slide you can 360+P them instead.

As mentioned it’s not a safe mixup at all, but if they guess incorrectly you can get a free Oil Shower after the slide or 360.

its easy to cancel the slide if you have meter so if they block and you have meter cancel and if your oiled up you can go into a blockstring or mix up.

I’ve also been getting players with f.mp into medium dive or U1

Dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane.

I’ve been trying to figure out what moves Hakan is safe to oil after, and what strengths of oil are safe after what moves. So, I’ve been trying to make a list. My methodology was as follows: I would record Hakan doing the move, immediately followed by the oil, and then immediately into crouch blocking from there. I tested the moves against Dudley. If the move left Dudley on the ground close to Hakan I tried reversal DP and reversal Super, if it left the Dudley far away from Hakan I tried reversal EX Machine Gun Punch. If a strength of oil was safe I assumed all lighter versions of oil were also safe, likewise, if a strength of oil was unsafe I assumed all heavier versions of oil were unsafe.

This list is incomplete, some things I couldn’t test because of limitations of the record function (10 seconds is too short when ultras get involved) and the awkwardness of recording air to air trades (I wanted to see if oiling was safe after air to air j.MP but couldn’t). Any further data would be greatly appreciated

L/M/H Slide w/out follow up : L/M/H/EX Oil Unsafe
L/M/H Slide w/ follow up: L Oil safe from DP but NOT from super, M/H/EX Oil Unsafe

c.RH : L/M/H/EX Oil Unsafe
f.RH w/ Oil: L/M/H/EX Oil Unsafe

Forward/Neutral Throw: L/M Oil Safe, H/EX Oil Unsafe
Back Throw: L/M/H/EX Oil Unsafe

L/M Oil Rocket: L/M Oil Safe, H/EX Oil Unsafe
H Oil Rocket: L Oil Safe, M/H/EX Oil Unsafe

L/M/H Oil Dive: L Oil Safe against DP AND Super, M Oil Safe against DP BUT NOT Super, H/EX Oil Unsafe

Super: L/M/H/EX Oil Unsafe

That’s all I’ve tested so far. Just realized that I forgot to test the EX versions of all of his moves, maybe I’ll get around to that later today. I chose Dudley because his EX MGP is pretty fast so I figured that if it is safe against him it should be hopefully safe against anyone, against other characters with slower specials or specials with less reach you could potentially get away with more oiling. I feel that learning just how much oil you can get away against each character will end up being quite important to Hakan’s game.

Uploaded a video last night of some of my grab setups

I was a wee bit tipsy, so pay no heed to the rambling

pleas dont post a oil list thats wrong lk oil is 100% save after bodypress…

Firstly, what’s nice about lists on forums is that they can be edited as new information is discovered.

Secondly, I’ve tried recording five different lk oil after bodypress attempts and every time I can punish it with dudley’s super, so it doesn’t seem 100% safe to me at all.

I am almost 100% sure you can LK oil after cr.RH.

Will check now.

Tested:

I was wrong (like usual :stuck_out_tongue: haha )

Sunabozu is 100% right on the slide though.

I tried it 15 or so times with super with Ryu and T Hawk(Super, Ultra)

Bodypress is NOT 100% safe to oil up.

I decided to retest LK oil after cr.RH due to your post and found that it’s somewhat range dependent. If you do cr.RH at point blank range then you will eat a DP from Dudley when you oil, however, if you do cr.RH so just the very end of of Hakan’s foot hits Dudley then his wake up reversal DPs will whiff. However, he can tag you with his LP Machine Gun Punch, the M/H/EX versions however come out too slow. So, it’s not 100% safe against Dudley, but against certain characters cr.RH done at the right range may net you a free LK oil.
