trying to join the shuma army, what are some good teams? i know ammy and dante are some good assists, but who else?

oh and i’m currently running shuma/dante(weasel)/hawkeye. kinda sucks though since i only main one of the characters(hawkeye)

alright i think i’ve done about all that can be done with shumas air throws so prepare your butts for this 1mil damage air throw!

i skipped the Cr H on the 2nd relaunch because ryu kept falling out of the M ray. taking that away i guess made the hit stun just enough for it to work, or i could be wrong.

similar combo can be done with a low air throw. just start with a couple of M&Ms and an M smash and do the same grounded transcription

edit: turns out i missed a hit on the mashing of chaos dimension so add 10k to that damage which means it kills Franky

The full combo including the H with two mystic rays does about 854K and it builds 1.85 bar (really close to 2).
This combo gets a bit hard because the timing of M into Up H after the throw isn’t something you can exactly mash however…

if you just do M (2 hits) into M (2hits) at the beginning, you can actually just press M a bunch of times and visually confirm into an H ball and the combo builds 1.8 bar, and does 840k exactly. 14K less and .05 less bar is a good sacrifice to make this combo infinitely easier.

i thought the M, up H was the easy part of the combo. it’s a pretty big window compared to the timing in the rest of combo and the hit box on the M reaches deceptively far beneath him. the low jump version on the other hand, i do just mash M. does the Cr. H on the 2nd launch work if you get rid of the Up H after the throw? or is it just me having a mental block with it?

big thanks for the numbers, didn’t think it gained that much meter. so if you don’t reach a 2nd meter by them time you get to the M Ray would be a good idea to do an air S after the M Ray followed by a L Stare, HMR so they stand up into the eyeballs exploding for a standing reset? the normal bnb leaves you open to jab or Cr H them after the eyes otg them into the air but i never seem to be able to utilize that

good slow moving assist like sent drones and RR spit fire twice to help him get in also a character that can transform to take advantage off his mystic stare after a combo to get an easy TOD ie Wolverine,Vergil,Zero,dante etc.

does anyone play this characgter on anchor? I mean I understand it must be MUCh easier to open people up when backed by horizontal assists and you can just smash your way in or what not, but I really like the mystic ray assist for my modok zoning and for helping haggar get in. That said, when its down to just my shuma, i’m probably gonna lose because

A) I can’t even finish a full combo (roughly like 3 hours with this guy)
B) I can’t effectively open my opponents up safely. Vergil just fucks me up I don’t know how to outpoke him

anyone able to give me some advice on what i can do with a solo shuma to open up an opponent?

Also, I always get mystic smash when I want mystic stare, I know this is just a practice thing, but its damned annoying because its a huge barrier to learning more of these combos till i can get that part consistently

Shuma already has a problem opening someone up even with a projectile and its even more of a stretch when he’s solo. The only thing I can really say is just go ham with that X-Factor. Make sure you watch your Mystic Smashes as they can easily be jabbed out and thrown out of. X-Factor helps the speed/derp factor a bit, but don’t let that give you the idea you can just do whatever you want. Just play him with a brain and he’ll be alright.

Most people play Shuma just for the assist anyways. Because of this, they just have him as an anchor and he seriously benefits the most out in 1st an 2nd character slots.

A combo that doesn’t start in the corner?

Yes, been thinking about shuma/iron man…but IM is just too much of a liability on a team that already has shuma :rofl:

yes…shuma on point definitely the way to go, and shuma/vergil has a ton of sick stuff to implement/discover. I wish I didn’t completely suck with vergil…hyper mystic smash into devil trigger gives vergil like three or four mixup opportunities while they’re still blocking the balls…too bad I don’t know any good vergil mixups besides rapid slash yet :frowning:

mystic ray just isn’t that good of an assist to warrant shuma anchor, and shuma anchor loses 10-0 to too many mid/top tier anchors to be viable…although his xfc3 combos can kill a character in like two seconds

try visualizing the charge back to forward motion in your mind as you do it as more of a dome than a straight line

thanks man… gah… I guess i could revamp the team to Haggar/Shuma/Doom (beam) and that way shuma has more of a chance, idk. I just dont want to drop modok. blah ill mess around with it though. Thanks for your help

You know, MODOK and Shuma-Gorath have a surprising amount of synergy. If you do play a defensive/zoning MODOK, Mystic Ray assist boosts MODOK’s zoning tools GREATLY. Also, they have good DHC synergy, since Hyper Psionic Blaster causes a hard knockdown and Shuma-Gorath’s level 1 supers hit OTG.

I do sometimes play MODOK on point and Shuma-Gorath in second position myself.

The way I do my Shuma vs Vergil solo match up is I play him MSH style by which I mean to bait out moves where I can grab with Shumas meter draining grab cuz Vergil with meter is too tough for him just to rush him down also tick throw with Shumas s.L which is 4 frames so you can go for a Cmd grab or regular grab. Save your meter to punish Vergil when he goes into Spiral sword to make himself safe with a 2 frame snap back which has great range on it. PRESS NO BUTTONS until your in range to touch Vergil with your normals cuz he can easily punish a wiffed move. Fighting zoners is a big problem for him its a tough fight, things to remember his Cmd grab absorbs single projectiles like Ryu’s,Akuma’s,Morrigan’s,Spider Man’s,RR, just becareful when using it if an opponent has meter cuz they could bait it out to punish you. As for combos Im guessing the charges are screwing you up since you dont know when to start doing it, well to practice on a single charge bnb c.:m:,c.:h:,j.:m:,j.:h:,j.:u:+:h:(start charging down back)c.:m:,c.:h:(press forward :l: or :m: for the mystic stare)Mystic Stare :l: or :m:,:s:,s.j:m::m::h::s:,dash forward twice (Mystic Stare explodes) :f:+:h:,:s:,s.j:h: air:s:xx Hyper Mystic Ray. this nets about 605K and gives a good idea on how to charge and is online friendly.

The thing with Iron Man was mastering his neutral game, his air to air hit confirms was my main thing to master cuz of his great high priority normals in the air even beats out Mags believe it or not and he builds so much meter for Vergil. The Repulser assist is so cheap with Shuma and Vergil its hard for me to switch him out. I dont really put him on anchor too much though

I’ve said it before, Shuma vs Vergil is 0-10 matchup. At no point in time except him in the corner and you directly on him with some sort of assist making him block does his options lose to yours. After traveling to a lot of tournaments recently, I’ve learned that your best bet is just to get a Cr.M from an unexpected distance (hope they dont press st.H) and then if it doesn’t hit and he blocks it go into cr.H into tigerknee’d M ball. If you ever hit him you need to kill him asap!

So guys… what do you know about shuma hit-stun /damage scaling…? ; )

In XFC3 Shuma can do ABC launch on the ground, and then hit M immediately, then wait for him to get above them, then hit M again, then shuma will cross them up and you can S them down and land next to them and do Mystic Ray H OTG and continue to do it. I’ve only gotten 2 reps but its something to play with. Shuma has retarded S tier XFC3 corner combos but his midscreen is WHACK! so we gotta find a good 1m+ shuma combo that puts them in the corner!

I don’t know Angelic, I wouldn’t say it’s a 0-10 match up solo on solo. I wish i could go to the big two here in NY to show off Shumas abilities but work and a nagging wife always ruin my plans. true you have to get in close make him block to start an offensive you dont really need an assist to do that another good reason to stay close is cuz shumas normals have faster start up than his so the staggering c.:l: works great against him. If he try to zone you with an Judgement cut his command throw absorbs it, if you block rapid slash and he try’s to make it safe with spiral swords shumas snap back cancels it, when ever he comes in with out meter hyper mystic smash xfactor dash up to him tick throw him with a s.:l: into normal or Cmd grab :h: works great, if he techs your ground throw shumas cmd grab :m: or :h: right after the break catches him cuz of the quick start up frames. Im not saying Shuma is better or on the same lvl as him just match up is at least 5-10 solo on solo and depending on the player possibly a 6 or 7-10. Also a great 1mil combo that puts your opponent in the corner from mid screen is j.:m:(2hits),:m:(2hits),air Mystic smash :l:,c.:l:,s.:m:(2hits),c.:m:(2hits),c.:h:,:s:,s.j.:u:+:h:(as soon as possible),Mystic smash :h:,s.:m:(2hits),c.:m:(2hits),c.:h:,Mystic stare :l:,:s:s.j.:m:(2hits),s.j.:m:(2hits),s.j.:h:,:s:,(eye balls detonate on ground)c.:h:,Mystic stare :l:,:s:,s.j.:h:(as soon as possible),:s:,Mystic ray :h:(eye balls detonate in air),Mystic stare :l:xx Hyper mystic ray,j.:s:(as soon as possible to hit the opponent when the eye balls detonate for the hard knockdown)xx Hyper mystic ray. This builds 1.9 meter bars,after the last eye ball detonates it builds a pixel over 2 meters the dmg after the first hyper is 879,400 thats including the detonated eye balls, after j.:s: and 2nd hyper its death aka 1,165,300 more or less.

but all of that information I pretty much already knew, and that combo isn’t a midscreen combo that’s a corner combo since you stated that you have to do a cr.H after you hit them with an air combo. That’s the corner combo that everybody knows around here (the best one, for sure).

I’ll repost what I commented earlier in that Shuma realistically has no good matchups IF they know the matchup. ANYBODY including vergil is a good matchup if they’ve never played shuma before and will let him do things like shuma ball for free.

I thought you said you wanted a combo thats at least 1.mil mid screen and puts them in the corner which this does from MID screen not FULL screen in the beginning of the combo “j.:m:(2hits),:m:(2hits),air Mystic smash :l:,c.:l:,s.:m:(2hits),c.:m:(2hits),c.:h:,:s:,s.j.:u:+:h:(as soon as possible),Mystic smash :h:” that portion right there carries them to the corner from mid screen before you do the standard BnB, Im not sure if you wanted a new mid screen corner carry that does a mil or a combo that ends mid screen with 1.mil dmg and they fly to the corner. hahaha you not a dick, but that one thing I never do on Vergil or anyone is Shuma balls(i really only use it in combos or covered by an assist)unless up close if i think i can sneak in a TK version and also super jump, I have to see him at all times. Im with you on that he has no advantage on most of the cast except for characters that cannot zone at all and feel he’s for more experienced players that are good at footsies since he an honest character and really has no broken elements to abuse.

I’ve been wanting to mess around with Shuma before I commit. Other than I good horizontal assist, what sort of team does he work well on?

I’m also looking to work on charge bnbs to get the hang of it.
