Well I know pre-patch that shuma could not airblock after a forward airdash until he hit the ground, i think that is what they patched.
He can block a split second after he starts falling from his airdash now.
e
everyone can
which card does 8 way dash?
Patch Nerf to Shuma? So I’ve noticed several instances in offline/online since the patch where if I am in lvl 3 xfactor characters will fall out of his standing heavy sometimes. For instance a common tact I have is j.smash into s.m, s.h because it combos off air or ground hits, but now characters will consistently fall out of the heavy, like the first 2 or 3 hits of it land but then they hit the ground and recover. I saw it happen on sentinel like 6 times offline and had it happen couples times to other characters like dante/wesker. I don’t know what they did but its starting to piss me off.
So there is going to be a new season of Assist Me! that will probably cover veteran characters. What do you guys think are the chances of singing Shuma-Gorath making an appearance? I do hope that Maximillian knows his fanservice and gives him a call.
-Chances are high.! haha…-
It’s not a patch nerf. Standing heavy has always been an AMAZING normal, but what really makes it shitty as fuck is the fact that it causes so much pushback, making combos impossible, or even if you do land a hit, you’re going to end up at a weird ass angle when you launch them. It’s these small things everywhere that seriously limit shuma.
If Mr. Shuma ends up playing Shuma on assist me, I expect the episode to consist of nothing but him talking about how awesome he is while Doom and Max stare on in disbelief.
Hope you’re right!
Haha, that could work! I would love for him to show up in person in Max’s room, rather than him being edited in there.
By the way, Merry Christmas to all of you, fellow Shuma-Gorath players!
-Merry Mystic Xmas.! -
Haha!
Rokmode i don’t think you understand what i mean, its not that it pushes them away, they literally fall through the move, inbetween the second and third hit they hit the ground, they aren’t far away by any means but the actually touch the ground and recover during the standing heavy.
Hey guys, now that ultimates been out a little while I wanted to see which matchups fellow shuma players struggle with and any strategies against said characters. I know shuma has a ton of bad matchups in general, but I’ve learned to mitigate that in most regards except vs certain chars.
I usually have the hardest time against:
-Zero
-Vergil
-Hawkeye
-Spencer
-Wolverine, to an extent
-Nova
-Good Morrigans
-Good Hulks
Any strategies? Who do you guys struggle against?
Hulks are super scrubby just learn when to block and when to jab. Also realize you can safely go to punish stuff with command grab.
Morrigan is pretty simple to fight though annoying, first off realize she has crappy lows, so you should block high against her 90% of the time, most morrigans utilize the whole guess how many times her j.S hits but honestly just block high cause their followup normal is almost always a mid. Other than that just realize her air dashes are vulnerable and can be hit by j.S or c.H. She is pretty straightforward fight, just realize if she goes clone crazy all you want to do is avoid fireballs so she doesn’t build too muchmeter.
Nova- Just like Morrigan don’t block low unless you see his slide, nova’s always go for j.H so either do a delayed airgrab or try and AA, this is one of the matchups you have to use j.f.H so you don’t airgrabbed all day.
Wolverine, realize c.l beats BS at close range, at long range just block cause it won’t cross up. Dodge Dive kick to punish, also a matchup where using mystic ray is pretty safe to frustrate him. Remember don’t advance guard berzerker slashes or barrages so you can punish, if in the corner you can grab punish divekick if your stand blocking.
Spencer- realize his ziplines are grabable. Once you take this option away from him he’s just any other standard matchup
Hawkeye - Personally I’m struggling with this one especially if he has meter, you are basically forced to use j. mystic smash to get in and he can just reaction super it. I’ve yet to test it but i am curious if you can dash under his qcfl to advance in, you can deal with other ones easily enough cause of how slow they come out.
Vergil- Meh just realize that if he whiffs a normal he can’t cancel it so typically game plan is for a proper advance guard to get a whiff and punish with dash c.m, also punshing/blocking teleports is important but it always is.
Zero - Fuck zero I’ve hated this character since vanilla. Honestly i feel he’s way to good, but against alot of zeros if they get predictable c.H can beat out his j.H. I also liberally attempt sj airgrabs or j.S’s since he struggles at punishing stuff from really high height directly below him.
Personally outside of Hawkeye/zero the other matchups I hate are patient+good dorms and dooms. Fact that dorm can bascially teleport dodge all your attacks is really annoying cause it puts him so far away on his behind teleport. Also patient dooms willing to spam finger lasers for 60 seconds really suck since you basically can’t do anything against air ones in the corner.
good advice man, thanks. Ive tried a number of those strategies but i honestly feel lag gets the best of me many times and with shuma you really, really cannot play well with lag. also, the spencer, hawkeye, vergil and zero matchups are definitely the hardest along with taskmaster (who i forgot to mention). Also, good dorms are def a problem along with doom, but i honestly dont run into too many good dorms (or dooms for that matter) online
I doubt they would purposely change something like that lol

Happy New Years from yuh friend Shuma-Gorath!
I smiled.
So even though I’ve mained shuma since DLC launch i just recently started labbing stuff up with him since ultimate and thought and share some simple conclusions. For instance after any hard knockdown in the corner such as ending with air S or super, if you TK a light mystic smash at the right time it will actually auto correct if they tried rolling behind you. Meaning it gives you a guaranteed instant overhead no matter how they recover in the corner.that hits before they can jump, so basically if they don’t block high as they stand up they get hit, its really effective and even someone know its coming will get hit sometimes. Having this great mixup in the corner is better than most resets imo since you can still end with a super and get this setup.
I’ve finally found a reliable lvl 3 xfactor combo for ToD without using mystic stare (i hate them and use a d-pad which makes them difficult sometimes because you have to hit the attack before switching directions). Basically for anyone interested the combo is c. c.:h: :uf: j. :qcf: :h: land :s: :ub: j. :qcf: :h: land :u: j. :qcf: land :s: air magic series into either mystic smash or hard knock down for super. I like this combo cause it does about 950k without a super and I don’t have to worry about side switches or charges.
Also a great setup for after getting a kill or setup that almost always works the first time is as they are about to come in you do jump then jumping medium but cancel into heavy mystic smash right as they come on screen. This will actually cross them up and people are blocking wrong direction because they are still predicting the medium, also hits anyone who tries to up air dash out of setup which makes it really useful for hitting phoenix’s.
On that note i’ll mention some other older stuff that some new shuma players may not know. Remember his lvl 3 has invincible startup which can be very effective for shutting obvious attacks people think are safe because of priority, for instant triangle dashing mags will get hit by this constantly. You can also use to beat out doom footdives or zero j.H’s etc. Also remember his HMS super has invincibility after flash means its a great super to DHC into to beat other invincible supers. Case in point i use to run akuma/shuma and a common bait i would do is point blank beam super a wesker, and they would always attempt to lvl 3 to beat it and DHC into HMS will cleanly beat it out. This super can beat out lots of supers like this from bionic arm to Hulk’s super.
Also a good setup to use x-factor other than double mystic smash is to use HMS and just as last ball comes out xfactor and then heavy mystic smash to get in close and can get instant over head or lows while still covered by the super. Also you can usually hard tag after a blocked HMS for free.
