H. P. Lovecraft would be proud - The Shuma-Gorath thread!

I use a complicated way, but after enough practice it works well for me. After launcher I do medium then heavy up heavy into crouching heavy then mystic stare. It causes the least hitstun/damage decay afaik, but it’s pretty hard and takes practice. It is possible to get consistently though. I am at about 95% consistency with it.

Basic Shuma Combo

Hey guys, I just found out that my first match in SCR is against a Shuma player and I was wondering if I could get some help for the matchup because I’m pretty inexperienced against Shuma. I play Wesker/Ammy/Sentinel at the moment. I’m just looking for things that you try to do against any of these characters or stuff from any of my characters that you feel you have trouble with. Thanks for the help!

First of all: I wish you the best of luck. Hopefully he’s one of those players who has no idea what he’s doing with shuma. If he’s just abusing the fuck out of the assist, you can easily punish it because it has no invincibility whatsoever and he is out there for quite some time. Whatever you do though, try not to get in a matchup vs shuma as sentinel. Shuma shits on sentinel, but I’m sure you’re used to everyone shitting on sentinel. Practice grabbing air mystic smash medium out of it’s air time/recovery/even startup in training mode using the replay function because you have 3 great grab characters. Just try to keep him out because shuma does not have a lot of options for getting in. Treat mystic smash like a very unsafe dive kick and learn what tools your characters have to punish it. I would also use wesker’s counter on mystic smash. Shuma works a lot like sentinel in which he will use crouching medium at specific ranges because of its absurb range, so don’t underestimate its reach. Just remember to block high most of the time! Wesker should honestly have no trouble keeping him out with his retarded gun+drones. If it somehow comes down to sentinel vs shuma, stay in the air. Two final things. . . If you see him use mystic ray in the corner to otg (that’s the non hyper one), assume he’s going for a throw reset and do NOT get hit by his jump s… it works like dooms footdive where he has an hour to hitconfirm. Thanks a lot for the help man! This is some really useful stuff. Sentinel usually doesn’t come in until Wesker and Ammy are dead anyways, so I hopefully won’t have to worry about that matchup as much.

Totally lol on a pad. I mean if i’m styling I’ll use them and do some crazy shit. But for fundamentals I use jump loops only. Also I found a good X-factor combo for Shuma that does 1 Combo kills and doesnt drop. Are any of you guys interested in seeing it?

How to beat shuma with wesker, never stop attacking, all of your attacks dominate any of shuma’s attacks in Umvc3, just spam launcher on the gruond, very very little shuma can do about it.

I was practicing Nova’s crumple, energy javelin, raw tag combos on Shuma and some people can’t combo off of it because of Shuma’s funky crumple animation. Unlike most other characters, who fall on their stomach in a crumple, Shuma falls backwards. Shuma ends up too far away for some characters to reach.

Since Nova’s raw tag set up requires Spencer assist, I tested Spencer first. It turns out, Spencer is too far away from Shuma to combo him at all! Even in the corner. I’ll try and get a list of people who are too far away to combo after the raw tag. I already know that Hawkeye can still combo afterwards.

H&H will be great for Shuma.

-We can apply super armor to mystic smash.
-Charge move times can be nullified
-upgrade air dash to 8 way
-invisible dashes
-Increased attack power.

Hay guys heres my team what do you think I can do to improve it

Shuma(mystic ray), Hawkeye(Ragtime Shot), Stryder(Vadra)

If it’s in that order, don’t have Shuma first. Have him 2nd or 3rd to take advantage of his mystic ray assist.

I feel like there are some characters that suck at fighting, but make up for it with an AMAZING assist. Hsien-Ko, Shuma, Tron and Haggar (in vanilla). Anyway, get Shuma off the point, because a lot of his strength is in his assist.

There is a glitch with mystic ray assist against PW. If Maya shield is on the field call mystic ray and then jump to other side of shield mystic ray goes through the shield. It makes any teleport/crossup character with mystic ray assist totally walk all over PW.

So someone said that after the patch characters can now air block as they fall after an air dash? Is this true? Does this work for shuma? being able to block after a backwards air dash would be boss
