H. P. Lovecraft would be proud - The Shuma-Gorath thread!

Heh, I’ll admit i learned about Shuma from Marvel Super Heroes, but I still think the comics that lead up to shuma’s first appearance, i.e. MArvel Premier #1-9 are still awesome comics, and they’re necessary to communicate just how powerful shuma is supposed to be (anyone who wants those old shuma comics can find them at the TimeMachine in NYC btw, like $5 a pop, which is pretty sick for 60s-70s comics). I’d stay away from any shuma appearances after the early 90’s though, new writer sort of botched him and made him a bitch IMO. And I know the strength of a character in his/her comic cannon isn’t represented by their gameplay, but it’s still funny that Shuma’s a low tier character when he’s likely much stronger than either Galactus or Dormammu in the comics (…and anyone who wants to debate this freakishly nerdy claim should just save yourself the time and look at the forums on comicvine if you don’t believe me…going to that site it will make you feel like dedicating hours a day to playing a videogame is productive by comparison).

I’m on there:wonder:
What can i say i was both a comic and fighting game fan going into this.
But i totally agree,i first found shuma through marvel super heroes(him and blackheart were my mains) but i became a fan of the character in the comics. So he has a wavedash now, damn i got to lean how to properly do that(i plan to pick up if so i needed to learn it anyway)

heh, yeah me too, about a month ago i was getting into fights with people about how strong the celestials are.

And I notice you’ve tried playing strange, shuma and dorm. You notice any decent synergy between dorm and strange? Eye of Agamotto is a good assist if you want breathing room for dorm to charge dark spells, don’t know much more than that really.

His BnB is pretty much the same from last game which is good but now you can get two super at the end with the new j.:s:. I find it easier to do now too. I use c :m: c :h: :s: j.:m: (onehit) 236 :h: c:m: c :h: :l: stare :s: j.:m: j.:m: j.:h: j.:s: Bombs otg :s: j. :h: j.:s: :l: Mystic Ray with ground bound assist, Mystic stare ,214 :l::m: bombs otg j.:s: 214:l::m:
This does 900k damage.
this assumes you can get to the corner when the bombs otg. If you cannot make it to the corner after the first :s:I just do one j:m: j.:h: j.:s: wave dash :s: TAC.

Wow, this fan art turned out to be prophetic, didn’t it?

Maybe Capcom took it as inspiration? Haha.

Do any of you guys take advantage of the fact that Shuma has the best Magic Series in the game? The Hunter series is insane for mix-ups.
My new bnb usually goes

(Crouch or Standing) Low, Standing Med, Low Med, Low Heavy, Jumping Med, Jumping Heavy X2, Jumping Med, Jumping Heavy X2, Jumping Special, Hyper Mystic Smash.

I know that you guys want optimal damage output but if you use one form of a move (crouching or standing) your series becomes quickly predictable thus diminishing your combo potential.

I actually dont have the game yet,but that is a team im guaranteed to try making work, along with the cosmic team(also the characters in the other teams, but who they are with doesnt matter)
I’m hoping for synergy with them, and from looks alone i say it looks good. I’m confident though,i have already made shuma and dorm work together,so really strange is the only issue i have left with integration.

Shuma’s kara-cancel dash

:u:
I must learn.

Whoa, legit wavedash is legit.

Shuma = Combos with lots of hits
Shuma + Frank West + Team Aerial Combo = Best Friends Forever

Shuma gets untechable TAC’s too (providing they didn’t fix that) which is something Dante can’t do…omg it’s perfect.

He cant do it anymore I tried. :frowning:
I thought him and wright with the stare would have been a great pair.

fuuuuuu…

Decided to play with shuma. How do you play to his strengths? Is he a zoner, rushdown, etc? I can’t really zone with him so i guess he is rush down? Any help would be appreciated.

Though he may not look the part, Shuma is actually a rushdown character.
If you want to be good with Shuma, you need to get up close and personal with the opponent, using some of his best normals, which include jumping M and crouching M. Both have pretty good range and are great for mixups. You can also using jumping S as an instant overhead which drops Shuma straight to the ground, and as of ultimate, is a hard knockdown, which you can follow up with Hyper Mystic Smash, or charge up a Mystic Ray to pick them up off the ground. Also remember how good Shuma’s level 3 is. It is unblockable AND mashable if used while grounded.
Shuma’s biggest problem is his lack of good mobility. He’s also got a low damage output, but tacking on a Hyper Mystic Smash, or Hyper Mystic Ray when in the corner, should alleviate that problem.

Some of Shuma-Gorath’s new quotes, caught on video.

Damn, his voice actor is sounding a lot better this time around!

I play Shuma as a rushdown battery, I build meter in order to power-up other characters on my team (aka Frank with Invincible Tools)
The trick with being mobile with Shuma actually lies in his aerial launcher. Since he can now kara-dash, use his launcher to send the opponent to the corner and then quickly scoot across the screen with the kara.

Found an easier way to kara-dash, tap dash then down on the d-pad when Shuma reaches the end of the first spider scuttle then tap dash again. I think Capcom left his launcher alone for this purpose, With kara-dash Shuma can apply constant pressure on the opponent!

LOL, Shuma-Gorath explains his buffs in UMVC3.

This guy is the man.
