518 for U1, vs the same combo with lp hozanto fadc 549.
Max range for RFC to connect off TC appears to be after 2 point blanks cr.lps TC, does not connect after point 2 cr.lks. Obviously I wouldn’t advise using RFC there anyways due to scaling, but if you can manage to hit confirm off one lp into standing HP or into TC then go for it, be aware that damage is abysmal if you do off 1 lp and TC, 370, off on lp into close HP is 437, off TC alone is 418. Off Cl.mp is 437.
And for the record Cl.hk TC RFC is character specific I’ll list who it works on.
Fuerte is unique because of his moving standing animation it can cause TC to whiff, it’ll also cause him to be pushed back if TC hits where focus won’t reach. The only time TC focus will hit consistently is when he standing completely vertical.
All the testing was done midscreen at point blank range with everyone standing. For an alternative combo you can do cr.mp TC focus, this will work on everyone to my testing but Juri, some characters you can do cl.mk TC, others you can do cl.mk cl hp if the combo works on them. (Some may be specific to crouching opponents), the damage for cl.mk cl.hp does 497 that timing is strict though due the condition it needs to be in and the fact you need to be point blank. As well as cr.mp cl.hp if that works on anyone.
Obviously with USF4 it doesn’t give the full range of TC that may be in the actual game, Also you can do the focus crumple, into a late LP hozanto for a meterless ultra on character (MP/HP do work on the higher floater but strict timing like Deejay) but the damage for those aren’t worth it usually.
I did test on Deejay ( cl.mk, cl.hp on him crouching works) and MP Hoz gets 528 while HP gets 546, So only way its honestly useful is on the character you can hit with a sronger hozanto.
Compared to Yun though Guy doesn’t benefit greatly, some characters don’t even need red focus. Like Sakura, she does great damage and stun on most of the cast and she has easy pressure/mixups after her combos do she’s fine without using red focusing mostly.
Cool… By the way, I saw a video on YouTube (youtuber: alioune camara) who recently put up a video show caseing Red Focus with Ryu. He had a full super and purposely wasted 1 meter. Then he combed Solar Plex, stMp ~ Red Focus crumple, Solar Plex, crHp ~ Fierce SRK which did around 432 damage. But the thing I liked the most is that he builded 1 meter. (I thought I read some where that Red Focus build more meter). But anyway, can Guy do some thing simular? (example) close stHk, TC ~ RFC, close stHk, stMp ~ Meduim Tatsu. {note: it appears alioune was playing the console version}
Stop being a fraud. He is top tier until a month after Ultra, when someone randomly tweets their top 10 and it all changes.
I wanted to pick up Guy, using Cammy and considering going back to Yun/Juri/Chun/Vega atm (secondaries). My issue is Yun/Guy vs grapplers is hell and I dislike grapplers already and my main is Bison who doesn’t even have trouble with them when he has meter. I just hate that you have to change your whole playstyle for them, especially Gief. St.hk/st.mk with the odd max distance scissors kick ZzZzZz. Guy vs Gief, ugh. Haven’t seen this Ultra match yet though.
Guy probably does really well against Gief now with s.HK.
Honda might still ruin Guy though. It probably depends on whether Guy is one of those characters who can now consistently punish blocked ex head butts.
Far st. HK has always been godlike at stopping Giefs, but yeah the faster startup will definitely help with that. Most Giefs will jump in with either HP or MK. Although both can currently be beaten clean with cr. MP, depending on timing or if they go for empty jump > SPD, cr. MP will either come out too early or too late. So far st. HK is more of a catch-all that stops all of these. Gief’s jump arc is also perfect to TK air throw, but it’s not worth the risk if he has ultra 2 stocked.
Unless Honda’s EX headbutt gets a recovery nerf (which I doubt) Guy still won’t be able to punish it. But if you’re at the point in a match where Honda is throwing random EX headbutts at you, you’ve probably already got a considerable life lead anyway. Just take the chip and move on, not everything in the game has to be punishable. That matchup is all about meter management on both sides, so in some ways the more blocked EX headbutts, the better because he just wasted meter on pretty minimal chip damage.
And to jebop…Gief is a perfectly winnable matchup for Guy, as are Hawk and Hakan. From what I’ve seen of Hugo…he might be a problem because his poke game looks ridiculous and you basically have to stay on the ground or you’ll eat backbreakers all day. The problem is your average Guy player (at least the ones I always seem to witness) never have the patience to play against grapplers properly. They just wanna rush in there and go for unsafe stuff, then whine when they get SPD’d. It requires a lot of patience to beat good Giefs, which is sadly something most Guys seem to lack.
That’s annoying, coming from a Bison main. I hate charge matches cause they’re slow and boring, although I don’t mind Vega and sometimes Chun.
I’m not gonna switch from a slow, boring down/back match to Honda telling Guy “Come at me bro”. Who knows, I may give Guy a shot anyway. One of those characters I’ve always liked, hate fighting, but never played serious. Kinda like Viper.
I always find in Gief matchups, one of them lacks patience lol. I’ve lost with my main, switched to Oni and just won using st.hp, f.hp, f.hk, then the odd fireball just to push him back. I don’t know what to think of Hugo. He was pretty ass when I was at a loctest, but it seems people are smartening up with him lately, might end up being another Oni.
Bigger issue is EX Tatsu combos from Run - Neck Flip giving Guy a high damage high low game thanks to also having arguably the best crLK in the game (only thing missing is making it chainable). The run - neck flip - ex tatsu is 330 damage on it’s own and most characters get hit by both hits of neck flip thanks to the buffed hitbox. Even on the occasions only 1 hit lands (like if they do a low profile move) Guy still gets a respectable 230 damage, more than most characters get off of an overhead vs a crouching opponent (where the importance of it being an overhead actually matters). Only Dudley/Ibuki and Makoto (after her MP Oroshi) can really get similar damage.
Then there is the fact EX Tatsu also is able to punish a lot of stuff that normally only grapplers can punish (Yang LP Slash) and being 2F makes it harder to frame trap him, some characters don’t even have 2F frame traps only 3F+
EX Tatsu is no longer 2 frames in console build, it was reverted to 4 frames at ECT, and tomorrow NY Is getting a test run of the final build thanks to FingerCramp, I’m not attending it but obviously we have Streak and Kreymore who can possibly provide insight if they decide to go. But I’m sure what we get is the Arcade build of Guy with the 4 frame EX Tatsu.
Personally I’m not happy about Run Overhead hitting crouchers twice, I’m going to likely have to break the habit of going for the cr.lk link after it now since it most likely won’t work anymore. If they \could make it where it’ll hit focus attacks twice consistently and not crouchers I’d be happy.
Okay, I’ve been dabbling around again. Close stHk, TC ~ RFC, close stHk, far Hp, Mp ~ Run Slide should work against Blanka. Neck Flip, crLk, TC ~ RFC, into what ever, should work against a crouching Guile unless Neck Flip hits twice and interferes with the combo. ‘I also discovered that Dudley and Makoto can both RFC off of their overheads’… I also think Makoto is top 10. She can whiff punish with her dash punch and RF it as well.
Any of the big guy combos can dish out good damage and stun which in my opinion is the only time I think I’ll ever use rfc cause 700-800 stun is too good to pass up.
