Guile Band Wagon

I find it hilarious how some dudes are trying to defend playing Guile now that he’s a much better character, and talking about ‘bandwagon jumpers’ as though playing Guile is some exclusive right to them.

Reality Check: IT IS NOT. PEOPLE CAN PICK WHOEVER THEY DAMN WELL WANT. If I see a shitty Sagat that obviously picked him for top tier status then I mess him up and move on to the next one. The onus is not on you as a player to judge, but show them what the character is capable of and leave it to them whether or not they want to put in the time to get to that level. If they truly are ‘jumping on the bandwagon’ then chances are they’ll pick whatever other character becomes the flavour of the month when someone uses them at a toruney. People are fickle.

I have never particularly cared for Guile in all my years of playing SF. Apart from his look I’ve never particularly thought there was anything cool about him. However playing Sagat in SF4 since release has made me fall in love with fireball zoning. There is something hypnotic about getting in a rhythm and putting up a complete wall of fireballs to shut out your opponent. Sagat does this like a champ, and now Guile does too. He falls in line with what I look for in a character.

Plus he’s got that swagger with them shades.

Guile Shades = instant win. No Doubt. That being said, I have no issues with people playing different characters (including OG Guile) regardless of the reason. I find myself testing out other characters on the whim. That’s part of the appeal with a large cast in a fighting game.

i started playing with him in vanilla because i that was the first sf i have ever gotten into and i was looking for the baddest sob on the game lol. in super i started off with chun i starting losing because i was just learning her went back to guile and now i main chun and guile. as far as bangwagon goes it doesnt really matter you still gotta know how to play him

I’m new to the bandwagon. But I’ve always loved Guile. Only two specials? Yes. Please. That just screamed bad assery to me. In Vanilla, I mained Chun, but always played around with everyone (my friends like to set up little random tourneys amongst themselves, so it’s a huge advantage to know a little bit of everyone). Every once in a while, I’d spend an hour or two in the lab with Guile, just messing around and having a blast. I want to use him as an alt in Super, just because I like him. And because of this bandwagon, I’ll probably have an easier time learning all sorts of neat things I can (or should be able to) do with him. So these bandwagons, to me, are great. I can see what other Guile players are doing, and learn what to, and not to do.

I’ve been maining Guile since I saw Jean Claude Van Damme in that shitty movie. Although I mained him in Vanilla and did pretty well in tournaments, I got my ass handed to me more than once by dirty Zangiefs, homosexual Sagats, and manlike Chun Li’s.

But even though I knew I was never going to make it far in those tournaments, I was at least glad to see that I was usually the only guy playing Guile and people were like, “Dude, this guy’s playing with Guile, he probably sucks.”

And then I whooped their ass with my piece of shit character. All these new Guiles can suck my balls.

I’d rather be alting Remy, but sometimes you gotta take the cards you’re dealt.

Guile has always been powerful cause he has always been able to do the same thing. Throw sonic boom walk behind for easy throw or position for a easy jump in combo then repeat. Guile is every bit as barrier intensive as Sagat but has normals like he is Chun-Li. I’ll never feel a pity for a Guile player he has not always been this cheap but can’t ever say he has been weak with all his tools

Guile was my main since SFII.
In ST, fierce punch blue became the main reason I picked him.
His fierce punch blue became my love in CvS2 P Groove
Same applies for Alpha 3.
In SSFIV I guess the clincher is Costume Alternate 2 Color 10 for SSFIV lol.

Yea I’m pretty cosmetic with my bomber.

(But I still have love for Charlie and Remi)

**thread fail.

it doesn’t matter.

I’ve been maining Guile since SF2. He has so many advantages compared to his weaknesses.

I’ve used Guile since vanilla and now in super I, and all of the OG Guile Mainers are being rewarded for our loyalty.

But with that…comes the band wagoners.

I agree! Part of the reason I’ve always loved the character.

Seems like this is blow out of proportion. Guile is OG and many who pick up this game are coming off from a nostalgic mindset. Very easy to see why people would select Guile even if they had no clue about his buffs. Personally, I’ve still run into just as many Guile players as I have in vanilla. The only difference now… is I get more hate mail from people who follow the tourney scene. Just the other day I beat a Ken and he messages me with “you F***ing scrub, Daigo you ain’t”

In Super, I still run into just as many Shotos, the only character I seem to run into less now vs Vanilla is Sagat. I run into more Abels, T Hawks, Codys, Dudleys, Juris, Guys, Ibukis… and even Makotos than I do Guiles.

I sampled him in SF4 but went with Bison instead due to my inability to do combos at that time. I will still use Bison but I plan to main Guile because I can’t do 2 qcf for psycho punisher very well and prefer the back forward back forward ultras. I like Bison’s fast pace but Guile has a fireball and more control over the match overall I feel.

I fight one Guile every 30 Ryu & Sagats…

You know who I have been fighting alot lately though oddly enough …Adon! Peeps are starting to pick him up and shenaniging me to death, lol

I dont get to play any sagats at all

I love people switching to Guile because i get to do this to them.

As crazy as the Guile band wagon is, wtf is up with the Bison Band Wagon? You use to see Bison on the reg in vanilla, but in chocolate- HE’S EVERYWHERE!

Am i the only one that notices the Bison Band Wagon?

P.S. Guile deserved more play.

Edit: Nice gief vortex, amoco, very tricky cross-ups.

that was just shameless self-promotion.

i wouldn’t call it a bandwagon. There really isn’t a large amount of any character like there was in sf4.
There are MORE guiles and MORE Dictators, but i think it’s much more evened out. Obviously there are still a bunch of Ryu’s and Ken’s, but a lot more variety otherwise.

I dunno… did you watch the Norcal Regionals? I felt like they should have called it the “Bison player regionals, until the Rufus’ make it to finals.”
