Guile Band Wagon

I hate it when word gets out that a certain Character are OP or buffed or what not and everyone jumps on the bandwagon. SF4 or vanilla i seen a few guiles not a shit ton but a few. I seen more Sagats and boxers and your usual shotos Ryu, Ken, ETC… So now in super everyone says how good guile is and the everyone shift from Sagat to guile. I see guiles more then ever now. what gives? Im assuming the more casual players bounce around trying to find there Fit. The more core players pretty much stick to there guns. Give me a peace of mind i dont wanna believe ppl are that fickle. Word

I didn’t want to be the one to tell you but yes people are that fickle. New kats are going to choose whoever they hear is the “best” or in most cases easiest to win with.

I chose to play Guile in super after messing with him in casuals. I was like, damn this dude is godlike. Then I found out everyone else knew that too. I was hoping I was the only one but no. you can expect to see a lot of NEW guiles out there, including me.

You can EASILY tell the shit Guiles from the good ones. I’ve been maining him since SF2 even in Vanilla when he was pretty much ass

I played Guile on and off in SF4 and quite a bit more in Super now that he’s a lot easier to win with than he was.

But, it’s hard to even want to play him now because appearently unless you struggled through using him in Vanilla people are going to call you a poser for using him now just because he’s a lot stronger than he was.

The truth is if the character IS better then that does make him a more viable selection no matter your reasoning for selecting him. If you really want to put yourself on a moral high ground because you “were using him before other people were” then you go right ahead but, if they really are just bandwagoners then they wont be as good as you, the pro, who has played him for the past 20 years.

I think you need to stop worrying about your precious being touched by unholy hands and realize that it’s impossible for who everyone else chooses to effect the way you play. Some people only play high tier characters or characters that get the most hype. What about it?

The better player will still always win.

i joined the bandwagon!

I 2nd this. Good match the other day too man. My impatience to win the fireball war got the best of me… lol

Yeah ive been playing with guile since HD remix when i was waiting for sf4. Honestly i dont think he needed to be buffed at all i won with him quite often. I just put the time in to learn his links and figuring out the plinking shit to to make myself better. I dont give a flying fuck who ppl use just bugs because ppl only using him because hes top tier all of a sudden. reminds me of my world of warcraft days. everyone rolls the class that is easy to play and win with.

SonicFlash when are you gonna put some new videos up. i need to steal some combos and strats n shit.

U make perfect since. Totally agree.

Same. Although I did use him a bit in SF4, not as much as I am/intend to now. Of course, I’ve used him a lot when I was a kid too playing SF2. It wasn’t even intentional that he’d become my “main,” I just found that I was winning a bit with him, he was fun/easy to play with, but I’m the type of person who likes to play the whole (well, half the cast anyway), so I don’t use him all the time.

Seriously though, I only use him now cos he has shades. Such a buff…

Been playing guile since SF4, chose him because I can’t qcf for shit.

Dont worry about who any one else is picking. ssf4 guile got the buffs he deserves. Either way you come out on top you get to learn the matchup for free if he is widely used, And if you use him you get to beast out.

Been using Guile since Hyper Fighting. Went to an arcade one day, and saw an asian kid destroy my Dhalsim with him. Decided to start to put time into him since then. Still always mained Dhalsim anyway, but Guile was always my man. This was around 1994-1995. So yeah, I’m really new on the bandwagon.

My fave characters were Vega and Bison back in the day because i liked their personalities and playstyles, but i also loved Guile because of his name and his fighting moves with very realistic.

After not playing streetfighter for a long long time, picked it up last year and mained akuma. Got beat by stupidity online and thought i’d try out Guile because i thought lag would be less of a factor because his movements are more simple…

I won alot more often because i had a natural rhythm with him, then i found out he was supposed to be gimped and decided not to use anyone else because it’d feel like i was cheating or giving up and taking the easy way

I was about to drop guile from SSF4, since I liked seth and gen due to flashiness of combos and stuff. But the moment I saw the new charatcer, Shades, I said screw you two, rot in hell and farewell suckers BWHAHAHAHA.

Besides, Guile gameplan is about controlling and patient, reading opponents movements, study their reactions, understand the patterns of attacking and defending, things I like most (reminds me slightly with chess :p). Guile is like a mobile castle built to produce ragequitters. Guile is good at full screen, excellent at mid screen and have somehow threatening close game in which the opposing player must respect and beware of it. Also he is the only character in the whole game in which throwing projectiles at closer ranges safe compared to other projectile throwing characters, and actually considered as one of his preasure tactics

Also Sonic boom is the first special move I did in SF2 for Snes, i was just blocking ryu jump ins, then I pressed forward and punch, and voila.

“what gives”? People are playing him more because he’s a lot better now…isn’t that obvious? Guile was never an unpopular character before sf4, and a lot of people who liked him didn’t play him in sf4 because he was one of the worst characters in the game. Theres nothing wrong with switching to a character when it becomes obvious he’s really good.

I’ve been playing Guile since World Warrior, I was very young and really didn’t know what the hell I was doing but I liked his style and his hair. I’ve only begun understanding his moves and fighting style when SF4 came out, before then I rarely played fighting games(with MK vs DCU getting back into them). If more poeple want to use Guile then so be it. I’m glad that more people are using him, I’m tired of seeing so many Ryu’s, Ken’s, Sagat’s ect.

I started maining Guile in SF4 after seeing Gilley’s combo video, to be honest. The awesome theme, with those ridiculous combos being done made me want to play him. I eventually tried him out and I liked him for his playstyle and challenge associated with playing him; also, his neutral fighting stance is fucking badass, he looks like he’s a real fighter about to get down and scrap.

It doesn’t necessarily make me mad that more people are playing Guile, it’s more of the reasoning behind it. It pisses me off to no end that people didn’t touch him in vanilla, why? Because he had to work to win? You had to out play, out smart, out think, out footsie, etc. your opponent more so than others? If anything, that drew me in about Guile. His tough links, his indepth requirement of knowledge of the attributes of every single one of his normals, his situational ultra, his unsafe moves on block: shit like that meant you couldn’t just throw out moves, you had to be really careful when you used Flash Kick, for example.

Pick him up because he’s fun, not because Daigo picked him up. Not because he moved up in the tier list. Not because, “hey guys, he got buffed so he’s easier to play.” What makes me mad is that people are playing him because they said he got better, not because they like that particular playstyle or even his character.

Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t find Guile any easier to play with in Super. Seriously, he still can be randomed out. You still need good defense. And while he had reduced charge time, you still need expert zoning skills to begin to take advantage of it. A lot of his moves have the same properties, with maybe some range and start changes. So, like how is he all that easy to use? Guile is still not a newb friendly character, and anyone who doesn’t know what they are doing with him isn’t going to win a lot.
