Guile Band Wagon

This is about the only thing that has me at ease with him. Even though he has been buffed, people will likely drop him once they realize this and go on to some other easy character. I hope. If not, then I guess we just have to prepare ourselves for the hundreds of Guile players who constantly walk backwards and throw out random booms when they’re about to be jumped in on.

i still main geif but i sub guile…used to play him exclusively in street fighter 2

I 2nd this. For the most part, the new Guile’s can’t cross up for shit and dont properly follow up after a boom

Guile’s crossup game sucks in SSFIV. It doesn’t do a lot of hit stun, and it’s hard to followup. Should definitely be used sparingly.

That’s what they said about Cammy now look at that character and Fei in HDR.
How many people actually use this character properly?

This is how a charge match should look like

Always play at least 5 guiles before any other character a second time. How does it feel to main a character that everyone uses? What satisfaction do you get out of being one of many? All for a character with two moves?

I was rolling guile in sf4 and honestly i didnt think he needed to be buffed. in fact i thought he needed to be tuned down a bit. Im quite sure everyone who was on sagats nuts seen his nerfs jumped ship for guile.

totally agree with ya bro, pisses me off to. But bring on the scrubs ill take’em down one flash kick at a time.

Wonder if Daigo played Dhalsim instead of Guile if people would be jumping on that bandwagon…

^ Certainly not new to the bandwagon but your describing exactly what happens to people. They pick a character, they get -rocked- by some other character, they start to think about that character, then pick him up. ^

I mean at some point or another it just fucking happens, and people need to deal with it. The only reason old farts get salty about it is because they either A: don’t remember when they did it themselves, or B: don’t view them doing it as hopping on a bandwagon, despite that being exactly what it is.

I’d be fucking lying to you if I said I didn’t learn (to some extent) almost every character in SF4 (Sagat, Blanka, Vega, and grapplers not included) based off of what I saw someone like Sanford Kelly do with them. I jumped on the Ken band wagon in SF3 after seeing the Daigo video, I learned Yun after seeing KO, I also learned Yang after watching KO, I learned (and then settled with) Akuma after watching many, many videos of Yuki Otoko’s Akuma.

Guile, on the other hand, is actually one of the few characters I happened to not bandwagon over. I played SF2 when I was like… 7. I just remember chanting “ADUUGEN I’M PYUUKEN” and thinking it was hilarious. Before SF4 came out I said, “I’m playing Guile. Sonic booms are really fucking cool.” And you know what, they were. And they still are. Didn’t know shit about him, didn’t know he was a charge character, didn’t know what footsies were, didn’t know his ultra was ass, just wanted to play a hyperbolic american stereotype who can balance on his hair and punch a bitch.

Daigo, definitely Daigo:

sigh

way too many Guiles online these days… way too many scrubby Juries too… (of course flowchart Ken is always present)

Since we’re telling stories…

I mained everyone in WW (or never settled on a main; whichever you prefer) and then from ST through to 3s I had a “posse” of characters I’d use. I always liked charge characters, but never really settled on one. When IV got announced, I really didn’t think about a main as I wanted to see if there was a natural fit in the mix. My first attempt was Abel, but he wasn’t quite what I was hoping for (I do really like him though). After that I fooled around with everyone and I’m pretty sure the first time I picked Guile was the last time I played anyone else seriously. IV was the first Streety I’ve played where I pretty much spent the game’s life trying to master one character (I still have a posse, but they are all crap compared to my Guile). For all of his faults in Vanilla, Guile’s IV-series design is excellent.

i think daigo will drop guile sooner or later because he keeps losing.

funnily enough, on my psn friends list, i saw someone with the comment “i just lost to daigo”. so anyways, i messaged him and called b.s on his matches with daigo…“like daigo would play someone in europe”. then i was quickly invited to a replay channel, to see daigo kick his ass three times with ryu. lol.

…so if you’re in ranked mode and you happen to see daigo and have a good connection with him, he will play you (it seems). just thought i’d share that.

I always laugh at the Guile players who only do spam cr. lk, cr. hk, boom and flashkick. These are obvious pad players because you never seen them use a MK or MP…lol

Ever since the day in World Warrior that I first followed behind a slow Sonic Boom and backfisted the guy right as it hit and the game slowed down, I haven’t looked back.

Maybe best single-sentence description of Guile ever.

Does having only two moves and doing well make you less impressive or more impressive? Does it matter how many people use him if they’re all at the back of the line behind you? I don’t understand this type of thinking even existing in this community. It’s like finding someone who still watches movies on Betamax.

And I never see any Ibukis online…

^^^ at the moment, the current flowchart list is:

ken, ryu, juri, guile, adon, ibuki and possibly dudley.

as for my thoughts on the guile bandwagon, whoever said something along the lines of “all the people who whored out sagat have switched to guile” actually seems like a realistic explanation (although it’s more complex than that).

sf4 = you’d play a guile like once in a hundred different opponents. sagat would be something more like once in ten.
ssf4 = the games been out nearly a month and i’ve probably only played seven or eight different sagat’s the entire time. in this time, i’ve played almost as many guile mirror matches as i did in an **entire year **of playing sf4.

i kinda actually miss sagat. isn’t that saying something? lol

obviously there is the factor of a lot of the ex sagat mains running to a new character like dudley/cody ect. but it does seem that this rumour that “guile is top tier” stuff has really got these people out in their droves to switch to guile. of course daigo is some of the reason for this because he actually does believe guile is very high tier.

the other thing that does make me laugh is how many people who claim to have “always repped guile” are starting to turn up on these forums and start pointless threads asking for answers that are clearly sign posted in a thread that’s above the one they just started. i have more respect for an intelligent person who turns up and says “i’m just straight up tier whoring” (although you wouldn’t be because guile isn’t actually top tier lol). i wanted to help get the new updated stuff going like new combo thread/match ups thread ect…and i just didn’t feel like i could because there was so many garbage threads jumping up everywhere.

to the people who were here before all this happened, you know none of this is aimed at you. anyways, if i get good enough with juri i’m not going to post on this forum anymore. way too much spam.

That’d be a shame.

Ya, I’m trying out other characters, I love Guile…but he’s still no ST/CvS2 Guile…You gotta play real lame in 4 to win at high level and online just isn’t that fun anyways.

I’ve been using blanka a lot but already getting bored, may move to rog and do some cr. lk -> cr. lp -> cr. mp xx headbutt -> ultra ALL DAY.

doesn’t look like i’m gonna be very good with juri anytime soon. lol

one last thing i’d like to add to my last post. i don’t have any problems with new players picking up guile (just stop starting new threads! :P). nor do i have problems with people maining any character in sf4, then switching to guile now. i just have a problem with the people that lie about guile always being their character when they’ve been posting on srk longer than i have and i’ve never seen them in this forum up till now…ect.

Well whether they are lying or not, as long as they benefit from Guile info and learn to play him better, and avoid creating multiple threads (a new thread have revealed as I write), then all is good. I really do however appreciate if all of us Guile players stick together and find new stuff about guile, like how Sonic flash helped in his tutorials, as well as othes who contributed in other threads.

I even appreciate those who find the “simple” info like whether BnB -> sonic boom -> backfist works on certain range/characters, it will be stacked up and be helpful later on.

To the new Guile players, hope you enjoy the character, learn for your loses, strive for the better results, aim high and have fun with the rage quits and hatemails (one of the best stuff Guile players MUST enjoy).
