Guile Band Wagon

I’m new to this game and I just got one of the madcatz sticks with a square gate and I can’t QCF for shit. So I started to mess around with charge characters and Guile is just more fun to play. I didn’t know there was a bandwagon til I joined these forums.

non of this matters…folks r hoping on tha band wagon but obviously cause they r searching 4 a main…let folks try new shit…ive played guile sense capcom vs snk 2 bujt it makes me no dif from folks picking him up now

I choose Guile as my main character when HDR came out because I needed someone American to play. Someone who truly portray the essence of freedom and liberty. I don’t mind all the new Guiles now in PSN. If you fight a good Guile, you can pick up some of their tricks to add them to your game. After awhile, you compile all the different strategy people employ and create your own

What? I use a FightPad (never liked sticks) and I use the hell out of c.MP and c.MK. Guile’s pokes feel so much better in Super IV, so anybody who doesn’t use them will get rocked a whole hell of a lot.

that’s exactly what i thought too.

So many bad new Guiles. Most of them are impatient and eat it when they finally give up on the boom trading distance game and come in. Oh, it’s so fun beating the band wagoners.

I’ll never say Guile’s my main, but I’ll always keep him on the roster. He’s good at how I like to play SF, but I’m never consistent enough with him to make him number one

i think more people are playing guile cause of his buffs not because daigo uses him…

and i don’t get how any1 is shocked that people are going wanna use a character who has gotten better…

and i still see 50x more ryu, ken, akuma then i do guile

and most of the guile’s i do play are pretty solid if not they just get pwnt and i move on

so what is every1 bitching about?

Um hi. This is a fighting game. You have no control over who your opponent picks. They do not have to justify their pick to you. I will pick him for any fucking reason I want, own the shit out of you, and all you have the right to say is ‘thank you sir may i have another’.

I know pad players who would own the shit out of you, ‘online warrior’. Don’t feel bad just because you wasted your money on a stick.

Exactly.

Not only was Guile always a popular character, but he was under represented in vanilla because he sucked. So, now that he’s playable (and good) it’s no surprise that we’re seeing more of him.

Anyone complaining about getting practice against a character is someone I don’t need to play against. Ever. People should be pissed that he was weak enough in vanilla that he gets to show up in Super with buffs and a bit of mystery to him because many people don’t know how to fight him.

I have the opposite mentality of a bandwagoner; I always try to do the thing that no one else is doing. In general I don’t like it when everyone else is doing the same thing as I am. That’s why my heart sank a little when I heard Daigo was playing Guile; I knew everyone would pick him up and I would be “just a bandwagoner” if I now tried to do so.

But I am still interested in learning Guile, and you guys might see me back here eventually once I’ve learned the basics.

How do I join this special bandwagon? Do I need Umehara as my last name ? =(

You’re trying to play a game with a limit of 35 characters and simultaneously “Do something no one else is doing?” … What is wrong with people? Do you know how many people have that same mentality as you? A lot. Your ideology already fails by the reasoning that a lot of people do just that.

So no, you are a bandwagoner, you’re just like every. single. other. person who wants to be like that.

You want to be unique? Do something unique. Be Daigo. Be Valle. Be Wong. Take what’s given to you, make it yours. You aren’t unique for who you play, that’s asinine because you’re trying to achieve being the -only- person that plays a character in a game with a limited selection of characters. Daigo and Valle aren’t unique for playing Ryu, it’s how they play Ryu.

I have, to this day, after fighting many Guile’s, never seen someone who plays Guile exactly like I play Guile. I’ve never fought against a Guile that plays like a Guile I’ve fought in the past. Every single person plays the game differently, character choice isn’t a step towards defining yourself as a player, it’s what you do with that character.

Lol @ all these “bandwagon” people. Guile, IMO, is still mid tier. Training mode doesn’t show me any significant changes. That I noticed, his ex sb and s.jab (or c.jab, I forget) have improved. His u2 only does 420 damage. He’s improved but top tier?

Longer range on c.mk, better hitboxes on both sobat kicks and upside down kick, Guile High Kick puts people in float status, projectile based ultra for serious corner shenanigans and punishment, faster sonic boom charges make him significantly better against zoning–he can pretty much keep up with Ryu spamming fierce hadoukens. Spinning backfist is better and can combo off of light boom’s.

That’s just off the top of my head.

Guile was my main in Sf4 till about 2-3 months ago when I switched to Abel. I still use Guile, just have more fun w/ Abel dishing out 355 points of damage w/2 ex bars.

Love Guile’s playstyle, tho, which is why I still use him pretty often.

Before ssf4 came out, there were a lot of complaints about Dudley Bandwagoneers. Now that everyone figured out he’s ass without a decent execution threshold, there aren’t any complaints about that.
People will stop playing guile when they realize he’s free without a decent amount of knowledge regarding spacing.

As long as the guile “bandwagon” players don’t start spamming the forum with new threads asking questions answered in the thread above/below them, i don’t have a problem with a larger ssf4 guile community.
it just means a larger community supporting/doing labwork with him/reporting finds for the community.

Whether or not there are more guiles online shouldn’t affect you negatively in any way either. Unless you’re bad at/hate mirror matches. If that is the case, it is only more practice for you to grasp the matchup better.

Guile was my first Character in SF2(Sonic Cuffs lol), and well into SSF2T. When Alpha hit, I started switching between Adon and Charlie. For SSA3 I went with Karin. I didn’t get to play SF4 all to much but I heard guile was meh. Picked up SSF4 played with Adon and Sagat then ran into a few videos for Guile and got hooked again. It got to the point I spent the better part of a weekend looking up vids and reading instead of relaxing. I even invested in a Hori EX2 after work on Monday to help my game (yea I know hori sucks heh) sufficed to say come hell or high water I will get good with Guile. America F Yea!

Oh and The Shades pretty much sealed.

I picked Guile in WW and CE. Quite a few arcades had both during the transitional phase when CE first came out in '92. I think one of the reasons why I never got into SF3 was the lack of a ‘Guile’ char until Remy came along, and even then it just wasn’t the same.

It still cracks me up to get hatemail from people online saying “all you do is sonic boom” when playing the zone game. It’s even easier with SSF4 due to the faster charge. It’s usually a Ryu who fireballed.
