Guile Band Wagon

THIS!!! Well put good sir, you are gentlemen and a scholar! lol

by that same logic, you’d say no one plays Ken because of his lack of representation in later brackets in tournaments.

Interesting thread. What I’m surprised to note was that your thread didn’t start with Daigo’s playing ability with Guile, thus many people now learning him. That said, it’s probably his showcasing Guile that potentially encouraged the trend…the same trend that followed Fei Long after Inthul showed his prowess in ECT2. We all got to see what Guile could do, from the man that we hardly thought would play a charge char.

I’ve gotten a few comments about “riding Daigo’s dick” when I happened to mention that I main Guile. I’m a newbie here, but safe to say the more Guile’s playing the better. We all learn from that.

Is there really a Guile Bandwagon ? On Xbox live all I see is Ryu, Ken, Claw, Dictator, some Blanka - Boxer - Gief, and very few of the others or none at all.

In fact, I don’t see more guile in SSFIV than in Vanilla, but perhaps it’s just me…

The true change I really notice is the disappearance of all the Sagats of the universe… I wonder why…

Lol!

I’m playing him almost exclusively now in vanilla SF4, because I have a PC and no consoles. But I love playing with 'em

Crack up. TBH, I’d switched from Gen to Guile almost as soon as i realised i didn’t like the new Gen. Then, saw Daigo clean up J Wong a few times with Guile and started to question whether i should bother staying with Guile. But nah, Guile is dope now and theres no reason to drop him just because a gang of fools are gonna be picking him up too. Just play hard, think for yourself and have fun!

The thing thing with guile is that it is VERY easy to beat scrubs with him, you can lock them down with sonic boom, uppercut and flashkick, because they have no idea about spacing.

SO against bad players guile is a good choice and you will get many wins, however things obviously get more complicated against better players. Problem is, there are a lot of bad players out there to beat so people choose Guile for the easy win.

He is a Scrub exterminating machine along the same lines as Sagat (tiger shots, standing roundhouse, uppercut.). They both seem op if you dont know how to space yourself.

when a character gets buffed like guile did - he becomes easier to win with. people like winning - so more people play guile. i dont understand why everyone is so surprised with all the new guiles.

imagine if daigo showcased using makoto?

Its why I stopped playing Chun (other than I was bored with her)

Speaking of flowcharts, anyone love those Adons that do a blocked walldive into a mashed out DP? A mix up for a scrub is between mashing that out or a throw xD

I’m so glad there’s over 9000 brain dead guiles. They all play exactly the same and don’t even have to think to play with how stupidly good his normals are now. Most of em even just constantly hit random ass normals without even thinking because they’re all so good something’s likely to hit. I’m glad they buffed him, I’m not glad they made him an easymode character for morons.

i do see slightly more Guiles online than I did in vanilla. The problem is everyone who use him sucks with him. If you play a stupid rushdown Guile then I guess it’s easy. Like tons of online Guiles just mash. They do jump in HK, cr.hk, and then on knockdown they do target combo into a followup sweep. Most of they have no clue how to use his normals. Almost none have a good zoning game with him either.

I find it harder to play my style ( more traditional Guile) against scrubs. Since so many scrubs are jump happy sometimes it's really hard to AA them resulting in some big combo. And then you have intermediate scrubs who just keep focus attacking with Guile and mashing jabs all day. Or the ones who are dashup happy trying to use Guile like Abel. I think online is a really dangerous place to play Guile especially if you are more of a traditional spacing oriented Guile like me. But I guess he appears to be easy if you use him incorrectly. Which is pretty ironic.

Despite what you think, I know several people who use pad and can do cr lp cr mp xx FK.

Well, after that whole Juri thing didn’t pan out, they had to go somewhere. I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with her. But when those results came back positive…yeah, sadfaces.

I only ever played as Guile in SF2, a 5 year old button mashing fiend who only ever managed a single SB in years of play.

SF4 launched and I mained Guile - picked up Abel along the way. I play vanilla on my laptop more often than I get the chance to play SSF4 on my Xbox. Between red rings and my travels I can’t lug around all that gaming gear. Needs shipped.

I play whoever feels right to me. I used a combo of Akuma, Guile, and Vega in IV, and now the same in SSIV. As for having your character go mainstream? Who cares, enjoy the free wins on all the inferior players. You will NEVER be unique with who you main, this game has too huge a fanbase. Play who feels right to you and go kick ass.

I play Gouken & Guile for Ranking… Kick some ass and get kicked on my ass too…

Play others like Sagat, Ryu, Abel, Akuma, Claw for fun…

Use Guile as his command inputs are different from Gouken, so that i dont confuse, LOL… Guile is effective, but Gouken is fun…

Man I see so many of your names on Live haha. I play a bit more Guile nowadays than I like to admit, but only because he’s a good break from chun li without losing much of the reaction she gets. I’d say he’s way better sure, but I only recently started using him more because of the more relaxed playstyle.

there’s a pretty big bandwagon cult for that too. best thing to do is just not give a fuck.

guiles just one of those chars thats easy to pick up and play, very simple yet doesnt have a low skill cap like bison.
