I’m pretty sure that when people say “Why isn’t this DLC?”, they actually mean “Why isn’t this FREE (or close to it)?”, in which case offering digital distribution does nothing to appease them. People have been spoiled by games like Burnout Paradise , where free updates have been released at consistent-enough intervals since the original release.
Thus, in order to convince people that SSFIV is worth the price (or worth paying for at all), you need to show that what SSFIV provides is a great deal more than what one of Burnout’s updates gave, which IMO shouldn’t be that difficult.
I don’t think this would work. Everyone’s bitching about it not being DLC and saying Capcom’s lazy, but the reality is that none of these people have ever done any programming or have any idea of all the things that could go wrong with updating a shit ton of code like that.
It’s kind of like making a wooden bridge and then deciding to build a new steel bridge on top of the bridge after the supports have rotted. It’s better to start over, take the wooden bridge down and rebuild the new bridge from the ground up rather than build upon it and risk all sorts of problems.
The reality is that Capcom is NOT going the easy route by putting this out on discs. They are doing us a service, not to mention they are going to probably eat the costs of distribution MORE by having to buy DVDs, packaging, etc. by putting this out in stores than by making it a DLC product.
Also if it was a DLC and a stand alone, there would probably be bugs and compatability issues with them.
The title is very misleading, I ignored the topic for some time just because I thought it was telling people not to get hype over SSF4.
Anywayza, I agree, the amount of time spent playing SF4 makes the game worth thousands, anyone complaining about SSF4 not being free is a kangaroo bummer.

As mentioned before, people had to WORK to make this possible. People don’t work for free, you know. On top of that, by the time SSFIV comes out, SFIV would already have been on console for at least year. Yes, a YEAR. I dunno about you, but I bought it the instant my store had it, and I’ve definitely gotten my 60 bucks worth out of it, and definitely wouldn’t mind coughing up some money to pay for something that I’m going to get my money’s worth out of again.
I may be broke, but I’d gladly eat one meal less per week for 5 weeks just to get some SSFIV in.

Seriously who gives a shit about these losers who bitch. We’re the ones getting a great game for less than full price, and we’re the ones who will play and enjoy this game for years to come.

Tell me about it. Seriously, how can one bitch that we’re getting an update for a SF game in only a year? It astounds me. We had to wait 10 years for a new SF, so this is great news that the franchise is back. 8 new characters minimum, plus balance changes to an already well balanced game, AND new moves for everyone? Sign me the fuck up.
Don’t forget redone scenes, new ultra combos for each character (and maybe new moves for certain characters), and an unknown deal with those who already own SF4 and have kept it.
And, hopefully they redo some of the NA voices, so that they’re not so cringeworthy.
Cant wait for the next SF series then people can say, “THE FUCKING WALLS ARE CLOSING IN OMG, TURN OFF THE FUCKING LIGHTS AHHHHH THE LIGHTS NO NOT THE LIGHTS AHHH!!!”
Good thing you won’t be getting a release on the PC simultaneously with the console releases so you’ll have plenty of time to pine over your weakened PC gaming experience. Having had the game for a vastly smaller period of time and complaining about balance issues which for the most part do not exist, I’d have to argue that the additional time you’ll spend getting to know the game while waiting for your PC SSFIV version will be well spent.
Maybe you should’ve spent your $200 on an XBOX. Especially if you intend to play fighters.
