Guide: How to STFU about Super Street Fighter 4

Destructoid associate editor Topher Cantler recently put out a very thought-provoking article with regards to alot of the undue negativity surrounding SSF4 and the way Capcom plans to distribute it. I wanted to share it with the SRK community so that we could use it as a reference and wouldn’t have to keep wasting our breath on people who insist that "it should have been free DLC :crybaby:"

Here are just a couple of my favorite snippets from the article… :coffee:

“The point is, if you bought SFIV in February, you’ll probably have gotten a lot more than sixty bucks’ worth of fun out of it by next Spring. When a whole year of awesome gameplay for the same money you spent on Mirror’s Edge or Assassin’s Creed still leaves you feeling ripped off, I don’t know what to tell you. Maybe you should have spent that cash on a Fleshlight. Or better yet, a visit from one of those “assisted suicide” doctors, so you can end the painful misery of knowing that nothing will ever be good enough for you.”

                             **------------------------------------------------------------------------------**

“Maybe you missed the last few paragraphs, but in case you haven’t heard, there’s a lot of stuff being changed, retuned, updated and expanded, and at least eight new characters being added. For one, that would be a bigass download for people who don’t have a lot of space left on their hard drive. Secondly, you’re talking about tinkering with a huge portion of the game’s code, and that’s a Pandora’s box full of potential for fuckuppery.”

                             **------------------------------------------------------------------------------**

“Consider the possibility that you may very well be stupid. I’m not trying to insult you, I say this out of genuine concern. If you actually believe Super Street Fighter IV should be given to you for free, you might be a certifiable idiot, and should probably stop reading now so you can go see a doctor.”

Hope you guys enjoy it as much as I did!

**EDIT: Some of you guys who are saying the article was unnecessary because nobody is complaining would definately be suprised. Just go ahead and check out some of the comments on the article or on Eventhubs. People are honestly saying that Capcom is “milking us” and it boggles my fucking mind. Really. **

Nice article, but i haven’t seen anyone saying this should be free DLC here on SRK (granted i have not read EVERY post in this time when a post can reach 100 pages in one day =) )

I almost negged you based on the title alone.

Good read. I definitely didn’t think we should get a new iteration for free, but I did expect it to be paid DLC. I’m ok with a disc though.

lolz, did you see how MANY threads been created so far??? Holy shit I swear last night it was only about 7-10 and now i can’t even read everything.

LOL! I had a feeling that title might rub people the wrong way. Hope nobody does it as a kneejerk reaction!

heh well yeah, you haven’t been lurking that original “ssf4 plot hints etc” thread since before capcom blew its wad. kotaku and a bunch of other sites have had some of the most ignorant fucking comments. it blows my mind that this is even an issue to some people.

I read the article earlier today. I liked it. One of my co-workers calls me gay for playing SFIV and he plays Madden. Then he learns that SSFIV is coming out and tells me I am super gay if I buy it because I paying for the same game twice.

I tell him that it is going to be cheaper and he says I am still a bitch for buying but then I bring up that he takes a week off for Madden every year and it costs him $60+ a year for a new version of Madden and shouldnt Madden be free by now? He said hell no because Madden is a man’s game and much more depth.

Fuck my co-worker.

I think this reinforces Jab’s “Sports game players are mentally retarded,” notion.

That article was good…and rather funny. Little miss snowflake…something about that just made me really lol.

great article lmao.

Good stuff

excellent fucking read!

Fuck that was a good article!
I definitely agree 100% with this guy.
A bit unrelated, but the same things being said about MW2, people accusing it of being a full priced update rather than a new game.
The way I see it, SSFIV is going to be awesome now that T. Hawk, Dee Jay, and so on are back.
People are just too cheap to buy it. I woulda bought it even if it was full price

PS. Notice how there’s less replies to the pro SSFIV thread than the anti-SSFIV threads? You people are ridiculous. (Y)

Well, he’s certainly right. But: what’s the point? Capcom even said it wouldn’t be full-price from the get-go (which I wouldn’t even have minded) and I really don’t see anyone bitching. The people on the steam-forums could’ve used that article when Left 4 Dead 2 was announced but it seems kinda redundant with SSFIV, seeing that pretty much everyone is stoked.

At least 3 new characters (hear rumours of 8?) and a lobby system make this possibly worth buying.

Will only be pissed if they pull the “This is me charging full price for your disk, this is me waiting for you to give me more money to use the content on it” routine again.

Hell if it is 8 that is practically a sequal just with the SFIV name still in it, couldn’t they have got round the bitching and moaning by just calling it SFV?

I’ve never heard of this Topher Cantler fella (EDIT: Ah, it seems he wrote that “How to STFU about Blazblue” article a few months back.) before, but after reading that I like him.

Ha ha ha, oh wow.

amen my nigga, amen

i’d say sf4 is up there with the best 30 i have ever spent. it’s given me that much replay value.

to moan about it not being dlc is simply retarded, especially when ono has gone on record to state that it will be a reduced price release. i prefer the idea of it on disc anyways, just incase i wanna take it to someone else’s house.

i lol’d

perfect guide for those crybabys whining about ssfiv

I’ll admit- I wouldn’t have minded paying $40 for a downloadable version as opposed to a disc. That’s DLC technically. Hopefully the PC version is day 1 so I can do that.

LOL at those who say this should be free. A perfect fighting game to me is worth $500. Let’s try to get SFIV as close to perfection as possible.

(Note: no fighting game has ever acheived perfection, though a few have come close) Pretty good article explaining why paying for this isn’t a bad thing.
