Just to clarify, it’s not the same Ghost Rider as Johnny Blaze or Danny Ketch. This Ghost Rider is powered by some other demon/soul whose name escapes me right now.
The book just finished it’s first arc, which was the origin story. So far so good, needs to pick up a bit from here though.
If the intention is to offer some variety and diversity then simply create new female characters with brand new origins and mythos. I don’t see how robbing existing male characters of their identity and status is helpful or productive. It sends the message that female empowerment is only possible by male disempowerment…not to mention its lazy as shit.
I’m more in favour of being original and showing female characters the respect to get by on their unique stories and development. If I was told by a company like DC to create a popular brand new female character, I wouldn’t just say"lets just make Bruce Wayne a woman"…cause nothing says equality more like just stripping a man of his status and identity and handing it over to a woman.
Fantastic movie. Batista stole the film as Drax; imagine that. But all the heroes were good. Ronan the Accuser was an uninteresting villain though. Loki he’s not.
He got like no screen time. All of the screen time he got was just one-note stuff that could have been handled more memorably by that one servant of Thanos that he bitchslapped, who at least would have pissed you off and made you want to see him lose more. It’s a shame, he was kinda cool in the comics.
Loki’s entire motivation may be petty, but he sells that pettiness with charm and likability. At least movie Loki, who got the better of every hero in Avengers with words, not actions. Also, with actions.
Ronan in Guardians was all “blargh Ima gun blow up Nova planet because REASONS.”
Looking back I wish Ronan wasn’t the villain of this movie. They could have used some no-name cosmic villain to fill their need for a generic doomsday villain. Kinda wish the villains were the Magus and the Church of Universal Truth. A religion devoted to serving Thanos
Ronan wasn’t backed by the Empire but they didn’t condemn his actions.
can’t use Magus when you haven’t even brought about Adam Warlock.
I do agree, they should have just used one of the Cull Obsidian.
Ronan failed the same way they failed with Malekith. Gave him some half decent angry dialogue, then not use him for anything except a quick occasional battle
The other is that a woman is being given the mantle traditionally held by a man - thus it changes what that mantle means. You specifically seeing it as a male’s identity is part of the problem. I don’t read Thor and never have, so I don’t know how it’s the mantle of “Thor” has historically been represented. I’ve always thought of it as a mantle and not specifically an identity.
As for Marvel females in general, I feel there are plenty of characters who were created w/o being based off or relating to a male in any way. It’s actually faster to name those who were/are.
Ebony Maw would be weird solo, and wouldn’t fit well with the Power Gem. Black Dwarf would be good, just cuz his name is lulz (also cuz the Power Gem in his hands would be kinda interesting). Glaive did speak quite a bit. He seemed to praise Death almost as much as Thanos did
