There is the ongoing rumor of Ms. Marvel getting her own film in phase 3. I would like to see Marvel beat DC to the punch on having a female superhero film.
Feige said they are still using Wright’s drift and two of the guys that left was due to their characters being dropped in the revised scripted. If minimal changes are being done to the film than it can still make it’s release day.
I find it funny how women flock to a dude who plays a womanizing asshole…and when you consider Loki gets women wet near instantly I’m starting to realize some disturbing truths about women.
Harley strangely makes sense…think about how many woman fall for abusive bad boys thinking they can change them. The more I think about it they should have just used hank pym…get a good looking dude to play him and let him be a irredeemable abusive asshole and watch him be the biggest sex symbol in cinematic history.
“Cam what’s the first thing you do when you meet a bitch?”
“I slap her”
“Why”
“So she can’t say ‘You don’t treat me like you used too’!”
Yeah women have issues. And my goodness I love what can be done with some of them…but that’s a whole nother topic.
I feel bad though. I can’t think of any female I actually WANT a movie from. I don’t know if it’s just me, there just isn’t a well known one that I find interesting or that can truly carry a movie. I don’t find Wonder woman interesting, she just has boobs and thighs. She’s built the way a brother such as myself - would thoroughly enjoy IRL, but her characterization is nothing that I’m interested in. They turned quasar into a chick at some point. I don’t even know what that’s about. Captain Marvel ‘meh’. Powergirl just has tiddays. Supergirl just tugs on Superman’s britches.
I mean honestly, the only one I can think of IS Catwoman. I’m open for suggestions and will willfully look, but I’d rather the studios NOT force a female hero movie and let it just ‘happen’. I mean Black Widow didn’t seem worthy of even a 30 second spot until the recent Cap A movie, and I’m still not sure ScarJo could hold down a solo shot as BW, I’m too afraid we’ll walk into Tomb Raider territory (WTF Lara Croft doesn’t CRY).
:bluu:
EDIT - Rogue if played by someone closer to what was in the cartoons - could carry a Rogue movie, she has enough of the pieces for a strong backstory, the powers for interesting action scenes, and enough characterization to not be a victim of ‘just a body’, but a credible heroine.
Which is why I’m open to looking at someone ‘newer’, but as far as ‘established’, its a ‘naw’. No one wants to see She-Hulk, no one cares about Captain Marvel, Storm got botched by Halle just like Catwoman.
GotG gives them leeway to try someone newer, but lookihng at the longer in the tooth female heroes…who would really make a good movie that could draw? I’m one of ten people who would see a Domino movie. Misty? Not solo.
Captain Marvel could be hella interesting. Character’s full of potential. There’s pretty much nobody else I can think of besides her though. Unless somebody goes for a Charlie’s angels thing and just gathers them all up for something I guess.
It was a serious scene, but near the end when Drax comes and sits down next to Rocket, I just started laughing. The way Bautista was just holding his ribs, it looked like he just got hit by a spear.
Spoiler
But then I quickly got the misty eyes after Drax started petting Rocket.
As someone who didn’t know who Yondu was:
Spoiler
When he decimated those necro dudes on Xandar, I was like shiiiiiiieeeeet. He was kinda jokey-ish up to that point, so it was a bit surprising to me at least.
Ronan vs. Quill
Spoiler
Dead. Did they take off the processing/filter on Ronan’s voice when he was like “Wh-what are you doing?”. Too funny.
“I will bathe the starways in your blood.”
-Boner activated.
Edit:
Oh, and Groot’s command grab scene followed by that dopey smile. So good.
There is some truth about people not caring about captain marvel. The biggest issue that female super heroes have is that while the fan base does a lot of lip service over strong female leads and diversity, they don’t show support with their wallets. The rebooted captain marvel series that launched like almost 2 years ago sold poorly…like I’m talking cancellation numbers. In spite of the heavy push and media buzz the simple truth of the matter is that she can’t sell worth a damn. I’m not saying this would translate to a big screen adaption but I just think its funny that so many people talk about wanting more female representation yet not showing support where it counts.
I buy Ms. Marvel, it’s an excellent book. I’ve also just dropped Captain Marvel. The volume w/ her in space hasn’t hooked me. I’ll give it a few months and come back to it.
As for a female led superhero movie, the biggest issue I see is that the character needs more to her than just being a lethal, karate type. Going that road is just every other female led action movie. You need a character with depth and a legitimately interesting story to tell. The only caveat is a character like Domino, where they could play up her luck powers and gunplay and less on her physicality - though still not much character depth.
Captain Marvel is the obvious choice, but exploring other options…
Psylocke’s backstory is just waiting to be made for the big screen. I wouldn’t have confidence if Face/Off didn’t prove an audience could accept such bodyswapping shenanigans.
Even though it’d never happen, a movie focusing on Dust would a really different spin. Though I’d probably be the only dude to see it.
She-Hulk would be interesting, though the overall Hulk movie brand hasn’t matured enough to allow that to happen.
The Daughters of the Dragon could actually work. You’ve got the interracial, street level crime fighting duo w/ a good balance between reality and fantastical superheroics. Though could you do it w/o Luke Cage and/or Iron Fist?
Speaking of Daughter of the Dragon, a Fearless Defenders franchise could work as well. I haven’t watched any of the Thor movies, has Valkyrie popped up? I only ever hear about Lady Sif.
Medusa is probably right behind Captain Marvel as an excellent choice. W/ Black Bolt not being able to speak w/o destroying everything, an Inhumans movie with Medusa as the focus is something I could get excited about.
Going the horror route, Magik is right there.
Honorable mentions: Emma Frost, Storm, Black Cat, X-23
