Now that you mention it, they did say Drax had killed many of Ronan’s species before, I could understand wanting to see more from him during that fight (I was just waiting for the suplex). The issue I had with Gamora was that she had a reputation and it was established very early on in the movie, yet nobody gave two shits, there was not a single shred of fear in anyone in that prison, she was the one scared and sobbing in her cell, she could have at least put up a fight prior getting dragged out of her cell.
She didn’t sob, they just showed her staring emotionlessly out of her cell until she locks eyes with Drax.
And we don’t know what kind of fight she put up, all we saw was the guys holding her, we didn’t see how they got her out of her cell.
Also, she showed less than 5 minutes later that she wasn’t actually in any danger by easily breaking out of their hold and kicking the shit out of them with ease, while also having a blade to Drax’s neck.
Really the only times she had any problems in the movie were when she was caught off guard in the first chase scene(which is more because of their skills and cunning, and not her weakness), and when she was fighting her rival in ships and physically, which makes sense because it’s her rival who has had the same training and augmentations as her.
Watched the movie last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. Lived up to my expectations and I only had a few minor gripes here and there. One of the stronger Marvel movies, in my opinion.
Watched both review vids that were posted and I can definitely see both sides of the argument for certain points. I don’t really agree about her opinion on how the actors/actresses should be changing their performance up for the role. If the role calls for it then by all means do so but part of defining these characters is how the actor injects their own personality into the character.
The design work is astounding with the mechanical designs being particularly good in this movie. The world building was a pretty good sampler of Marvel’s space universe. I definitely enjoy sci-fi when it does a good job of delivering the scale of the universe to the viewers and I think GotG gave us a taste of this. There’s definitely a lot of parallels to Star Wars so I definitely would enjoy GotG as a developed franchise. I’d expect them to cross over with the Avengers in the third or fourth movie depending on how Marvel wants to handle Thanos.
Loved it, I am debating with myself right now if I liked this or Winter Soldier more. I honestly thought Botchtista did a good enough job overall, his character was just severely nerfed, he never felt like the badass they were trying to portray. Rocket stole this movie easily, him and Groot were fantastic. Groot was honestly my favorite character, he had some of the best expressions in the movie and showed quite a bit of passion. Groot’s body language was outstanding and he spook through his body language. Gamora was okay, she definitely had the weakest character. It almost seemed like shit got cut out for her, as she was not as fleshed out as the others. Ronin as a villian was ultra forgettable but the movie’s focus IMO was not really on Ronin but on the relationship between the characters and the inevitable lead in to Thanos. Ronin was really the only con for me and it was not even the actor did a bad job of playing him, it was just he was not really focused on. The fight scene between Gamora and Nebula was highly disappointing as well. Chris Pratt killed it as Starlord, he felt like a real character. Here is a guy with no superpowers and questionable morals fighting to survive in a world in which he knows he is outmatched and goes at it full force anyway. Definitely a must watch in my opinion and I liked it more then Avengers, which is third on my Marvel list. I am still debating on whether I like it better then Winter Soldier.
Everyone is talking about who was revealed in the after credits scene but I was more hyped about a GOTG character that made two or three cameos that no one knows about despite him being as ridiculous and awesome as the others, and also more powerful.
Cause as of now the bastard is one note and hanging with the equivalence of a cosmic creepy Uncle that persuades him to do things. Heck, even fake Thanos bastards, Gamora (most deadly woman in the galaxy - until recently) and even the comics Nebula who is a wanna be Thanos spawn (still managed to snatch hold of the Infinity Gauntlet for a cool New York second) have more on the resume.
All that being said, I hope Thane makes an appearence in the next Guardians of the Galaxy movie
I agree with this if we are talking about Drax as he is currently being written in the Bendis GotG run and not Drax as he was written by Giffen in the Drax mini and Annihilation and DnA for most of their GotG run. Current day Drax is cardboard and a obvious example of a writer trying to figure out a character while having no idea how to play the character’s more recent strengths.
so far for me captain 2 has been the best out of the mcu. but gotg was the most pure fun.
people are dissing batista’s acting? i figured that much, they clearly havent seen him act. he was supposed to play a stiff cheesy role. the whole movie was over the top and his acting was clearly supposed to add to that. did people forget about his taking things literally…means this version of drax is kinda dumb.
