Guardians of the Galaxy film, updates

I would argue so far there is no best marvel movie, just a bunch of good ones, and i damn sure wouldnt say cap 2 was the best, especially with its hella flaws. You gonna take over the world with 3 airplanes nigga, gtfo. lol. We’ll see if guardians of the galaxy changes that opinion in the next hour, and becomes the best marvel movie to date.

Top 5 marvel movies in no order

  1. Blade (Great movie that still holds strong as one of the best marvel movies, and it was made in fucking 1998. I’d watch blade any day of the week, like i did last night. lol )

  2. Captain america 2 (Good, but has its flaws as ive stated before in the cap thread)

  3. Iron man (1 or 2. I honestly never watch iron man 1, but i always rewatch iron man 2. Like once a week i put on iron man 2. lol. Its just a lot more entertaining overall, even during the non iron man moments. Iron man 3 was the only iron man where when he wasnt in his suit, you were like ugh, get in the suit, this is lame)

  4. Thor dark worlds (Vast improvement over the first one, hella entertaining, lots of action, and was just an overall pleasure for me to watch, and rewatch)

  5. Xmen days of futre past (Even with its issues, this was one hell of a ride of a movie, if not for the morph sentinels beasting on niggas alone. The bar is already pretty low for xmen movies, but this one far exceeded the previous junk)

Honorable mentions below.

[details=Spoiler]Honorable mentions go to The Incredible Hulk (A movie i watch 5 times more then those top 5 i listed, but unfortunately falls short when hulk isnt around, and quite frankly, he isnt around enough. 3 times in the whole movie. 4 times if you count the scene before banner gets captured. Not that ed norton was bad as banner. I just didnt care about anything non hulk related because there was nothing to care about), and Blade 2. I dont know much on the source material for blade, and i havent watched blade 2 in a while, but i dont recall ever disliking the movie, but i know some things threw me off about it, maybe it was just the weird cgi they used at times, i dont know. Also an honorable mention to captain america 1 and avengers. Dont really have much issue with captain 1, so it could go on the list next to captain 2, but its been a while since i have seen it. I dont think it will all of a sudden become my favorite movie though, especially due to a lack of shield use, and its not better then captain america 2, but i’ll double check that over the weekend when i watch both again. Avengers was dope, but it failed heavy in many ways, and you kinda just end up turning the movie on just to watch the hulk and a little bit of iron man before you turn it back off again. Avengers for me was a movie that i thought was easily the best, and then got worse as i watched it again, and it only took a second try to be like, eh, this is kinda lame except like these 3 scenes, but ive ranted enough about avengers being meh here.

I would say an honorable mention to punisher warzone, but i dont know enough about punisher to know if that was legit solid, or just a dumb punisher movie that was hella violent. lol. ALSOOOO, honorable mention to the first hulk. A gem for its time, that had some fatal flaws, but had some really great moments, and stuck to a lot of solid source material like the hulk growing in size as he angers.

Obviously howard the duck was dope, but thats such a classic in other ways that i put it in its own category almost. [/details]

Blade and Xmen are not Marvel movies sooo…based on your list Winter Soldier would be the best

LOL. Well I’m clearly not differentiating marvel movies vs fox marvel movies. Just movies involving marvel characters. Also blade is back with marvel, and although the original was distrubted by new line and marvel enterprises was on the production list, blade is under the marvel umbrella now.

I mean every movie marvel related. When i say marvel im not just talking about the ones they have rights to making movies to

So now that I’ve slept on this, I can honestly say that it’s my personal favorite Marvel Studios film along with Winter Soldier. I need to see Winter Soldier again now that I think about it.

Spoiler

The film could’ve used a small clip with Thanos at the end, but it was flawless for me besides that.

For anyone interested curious Grace’s spoiler review. First review in a long time that I actually agree with her on a lot of things.

Top Comment -* “You Just Want To Suck The Joy Out Of Everything :P”*

My crush on Zoe Saldana clouded my opinion, Gamora and Nebula were pretty useless actually, she was hardly the most dangerous female assassin in the galaxy. I didn’t know Vin was in this movie, I hope they release some motion capture footage I’d like to see what they did. More Ronan would have been great too.

I might downgrade my review to a B-, it was still enjoyable, on a whole not quite as good a movie as Winter Soldier but close, definately one of the more memorable Marvel movies though.

Ahhhh…grace is a waste considering get views on young justice.

This was shown at SDCC. It’s a look back at the first two phases of the MCU by linking them (Avengers/Guardians of the Galaxy) together.

Just got back

100/10 as a marvel movie

100/10 as an unintentional space epic that it will be.

The movie was basically flawless, as stated above. I’d watch again no problem, and is currently the best marvel movie to date imo. There is no questioning it.

Stopped the video as soon as she said gotg has nothing on winter soldier. Do we need to resurrect that thread so i can pick that movie apart and show everyone how okay it is? I have it on my drive too. I’ll gladly waste time picking it to pieces over the next 3 days, because its easy to. You would have to be a stone cold retard to think winter soldier was better then gotg. I have absolutely no understanding of so many peoples faith and love for winter soldier. Too many crushes on chris evans it seems.

The movie where captain america runs into gunfire from a mini gun doing a faux charging star, and the ultimate plan after infiltrating shield was to send 3 air ships around the planet killing those who oppose their new world order is better then gotg? Talk about drinking the koolaid.

Ugh, i cant watch this. I clicked on where she talked about thanos, and she starts off feeling underwhelmed, and his facial expressions werent there. LOL WUT. Sorry, the infinity gauntlet saga is long, and sorry thanos didn’t come into play immediately, when they still have like no less then 4 more movies to make between avengers and gotg before you will even see a battle with thanos. I do not expect to see thanos for a while. I expect a little something in gotg 2,but i dont expect a full on animated war with thanos for like 4 more years minimum. I personally loved the bits with thanos, and it got me hype for future battles with his character. He looked so fucking perfect in the movie.

Gamora did her thing in gotg. She was handling fools left and right. I was actually shocked zoe fought so well in the movie. Her attacks were fast and very precise. What were they suppose to do, make her some unstoppable force no one could defeat?

I commend the movie even more for being within the marvel universe, and current plot involving the infinity gauntlet, but being a great stand alone space epic too. If this was not a marvel movie, everyone would shut the fuck up with all their criticisms, and be drooling for the next 2 movies to come out. They would be fiending to know what the other stones do, who is thanos, who are the celestials, etc. etc… But since everyones already got the answers via comic books, now the nitpickers are coming out the wood works to attack a movie that is the best one so far without a doubt. Thats crazy. All the movies before gotg deserved the nitpicking, as there was some hella poorly written stuff in those movies, but i dont know, gotg did like everything right imo.

Ugh, i just listend to 30 more seconds. I should slap you in the mouth for even posting that vid. lol

Seeing it on this coming Sunday.

Based Guardians.

I will be watching this with my brothers tomorrow.

got damn, that footage of Thanos at the end just sold me so fucking much. Need to watch that again on loop like a bajillion times. One of my biggest worries was his voice, and Brolin seems to do it pretty good.

I still think the other dude looked like a better Thanos though. But barely.

Just saw it.

Pros:
Very funny, I liked all the main characters, my favs being Rocket and Drax.
Fx and action were good.
Thanos was awesome for the brief bit he’s in it.

Cons:

Fx wise the only thing I didnt like was Drax’s look;he looks like he’s covered with shingles virus lol.
Ronan , while looking cool, felt underdeveloped. I wish they had given him more backstory.

IMO this is in the 2nd best tier with Thor 1. Solid intro to the franchise.

My first tier for Marvel Studios is: Cap2: Winter Soldier, Avengers 1, and IM1.

Can we re-confirm which gems have been shown in the movies because I don’t think the colors are lining up.

Cap 1: Tesseract - Blue - Space
Avengers: Loki’s Scepter - Blue - Mind?
Thor 2: Aether - Red - Power?
GotG: [details=Spoiler]The Orb: - Purple - Power? This is the only one seen as a stone proper. In the comics Purple is Space but in this movie it just blows stuff up. Meanwhile the Tesseract is Blue and has been used for making portals which seems like it should be Space. The Aether sort of infects people and almost seems sentient like Soul but is used destructively towards the end and is colored Red. And Loki’s Scepter honestly seems like pure and well researched fan speculation. It’s mind control powers seem fitting for Mind but it’s never treated like a stone by any of the characters and the color is the same as the Tesseract’s. [/details]

Is it just that the the stones can alternate colors in their alternate forms that complicates things? Or maybe those who have touched the gems don’t really know what to do with them and that’s why they just use them as blasts if energy instead manipulating them the way they were meant to be manipulated.

Did anyone else have this problem (not sure if it was because I saw it in IMAX 3D) but at the beginning of the movie I had a real problem grasping scale. I wasn’t sure if the mountains and boulders were just mounds and pebbles, then when Quill appeared onto the scene I was like oh wait I’m looking at mountains???

I wouldn’t rate better than Winter Soldier, the writing and performances were superior in that movie (and that movie gets more praise than it should IMO). In GotG you had two characters who were dead weights, one of which Gamora was a main character. How did she take care of shit? When she was basically peeing her panties in that prison. She is meant to be the most lethal woman in all the galaxy but was more times a damsel in distress than ass kicker. Her character was pretty much the worst written character in the movie, she was just marginally better than the Nova corp folks.

I only know a little about Thanos so I wasn’t exactly creaming my pants like you did when he appeared. I was hoping to see more of him, all we got was a tease again, the only point about Thanos that I agree with Grace on is that he didn’t come across as a threat, even Ronan was frontin during their first meeting.

Overall it was enjoyable, despite it not being as well written as Winter Soldier it will certainly be more memorable (perhaps even the most memorable of all of Marvel’s recent movies) at least for me.

Interesting idea, the music being a character too. Seems I might have just been lost myself in Zoe Saldana’s eyes because I don’t recall her character being awesome. Everyone is hating on Batista, maybe his character went over their head’s…

I think the only marvel movies of true quality are winter solider, avengers and iron man 1.

My expectations are high for this film since I’m a fan of the comic and expect at least somewhat similar quality. I probably won’t be sold on gamora given the actress who plays her, and rocket still shouldn’t have been played by a generic white guy…either way I’ll go see this film on sat and see how it is.

Awesome movie!!!

Also, Batista Drax > Comics Drax.

This movie was so fucking good, soooooo goooooood.

Even if you take Marvel out of the equation, it’s a really solid Sci-Fi movie and hits every mark perfectly.

It improves on the things I disliked about Avengers as well, the feeling like these guys actually needed to work together to win, that they genuinely cared about each other, that they have well portrayed and fleshed out personalities(Even Bautista’s character and Groot).

And the dialogue.

My god.

The fucking dialogue was better than I could have ever hoped for, the character interactions and the comedic timing and everything. The comedy was also awesome. Great timing, some meta-ness, great use of visual gags, reoccurring jokes that weren’t gimmicky or annoying, some good subtle jokes, and the comedy never took away from the other aspects of the movie.

10/10

Don’t crucify me, but this could be the series to become the next Star Wars if they continue with this amount of quality.

Also, I was a bit turned off by this movie before it’s release because Rocket was revealing to not have an accent like he usually does, but after watching this movie I feel like it was great that he didn’t that it worked better that he had the voice that he had.

While I can’t argue with your other opinions because, well, they’re your opinions, you can’t really use that as some sort of con.

Marvel movies have consistently lowered the power levels of their heroes from the start. Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, nerfed to shit for the movies.

It’s weird that you picked Gamora when I’d say Drax was lowered more than her.

Spoiler

Yeah, I was confused, I was sure he would had beat the shit out of Ronan, and Ronan would have gotten away via distraction or something, but no, he got man-handled. I’d be okay with him losing if he didn’t get tossed around like a bitch and actually put some hurting on Ronan like he’s supposed to be able too. I was even hoping that him falling into that Celestial blood would have given him a power boost or something, but no. That my only real gripe with the movie, but it isn’t serious enough to be to be a real negative mark.

Wow, that is perfect…

Exactly.

I know what youre saying, because when i saw her kinda slightly worried about the dudes in the prison even for a second, i was like, thats out of character for her, but she redeems it afterwards by kicking mad peoples asses, and continuing to kick ass the rest of the movie. I mean, maybe people wanted her to be more cold and ruthless, fearing no one but Thanos, but i can’t say it bothered me that much, and i think for those not up on guardians of the galaxy and her character in general, it was a small quip that would soon go over there head once the fight breaks out, and shes back to kicking ass. I’d have to pop open my folder and re-up on my gamora, but while maybe underwhelming for those wanting a ruthless gamora, i think for the general populace she did just fine, and just enough to still please fans of the series.

I think batistas character definitely went over peoples heads. He reminded me of a stereotypical native american throughout the movie by the way he talked. lol. I dont know. I thought batistas acting/non acting was great after you realize why hes so awkward. I agree the music in itself made me love the movie even more. I could pretty much watch the movie over and over for many reasons, but because the music is hella enjoyable.

Also, you are correct, i creamed all through the parts with Thanos. lol. I also agree with someone above, that i was mad hoping for Thanos to just randomly pop up, steal his shit, have everyone shook, then dip, but for another day. Also post credits were hype for me, but im an 80s baby. I’m sure everyone else was like, wtf until they went home, googled it, and were still like, wtf. lol

Man, its been a long time since i wanted to see a movie twice, and needed the bluray as of yesterday. This is gonna be a movie my girl yells at me for always watching.

I’m watching you.
