Yeah I was wondering about Spencer and was gonna ask you…but you can dash after Magneto’s tag. It’s just rough because you can dash and still not be far enough forward to save the bounce. Saving it’s possible, but the timing gets really tight when you let Frank travel far enough before you THC–really fine line between whiff and success. It also might get tricky when you factor in varying hitboxes, but setting up the tag with s.H or superjump up forward add.S s.H helps a lot because Magneto ends up farther below the opponent when you tag.
That being said, I always tag with add.S…I wonder if addf.S puts Frank closer…gonna have to test that later.
I doubt that it will since the hard tags generally land in the center of the stage (especially in the corners). The only way to get Frank “closer” is to have a bigger opponent.
Yeah I figured as much. It’s totally doable, but I’d have to lab it longer to see if I can internalize the timing and establish whether or not it’s universal in terms of opponent size. It’d take Magneto’s midscreen cr.L combo to actual Thor-kill range, though. Pretty sweet find.
I’ve been having so much fun re-learning dante that I want to make a point dante frank team. Something Like dante / frank / x. Who would be the best anchor for this team? Right now I’m thinking Ammy, but i’m willing to try anyone.
Ammy works well in the leveling sense there, but I do feel as if Cart and Cold Star overlap too much for that to be a great Dante team. When I run Dante/Frank/X, I generally find that RR (Spitfire) is the best option there. It’s a lot of fun for Dante, and and Frank with Spitfire + Jam Session is reallyyy cheap. Iron Man’s Unibeam is also very good, but the problem with both teams is that you have to put in the work to anchor Iron Man and RR well…which is not exactly the road to playing a team casually
Cold Star would definitely be ok, but really the best assists for Dante there come with anchor characters who just aren’t very good at leveling Frank (Mags/Strider for example).
Trying to find a way to play Dante with assists is actually what made me man up and start learning Mags for Mag/Dante/Frank actually (since you do get to play Dante/EMD with it sometimes). But I also know you’ve been playing that team already haha. Just Dante/Cart is fun though I gotta say. Btw hit me up for another set at some point
If your main focus is re-learning Dante, though, Cold Star might do the trick pretty well. Since you lose teleport crossups and have to deal with an assist that can get bopped fairly easily it’d force you to focus on Dante’s spacing game a lot and practice his frame traps. Could work for sure.
Thanks for the help Fizzy and Slippaz! I might stick mags on anchor upon more thought as he’s on my main team and I need to get him a bit better as well. And of course Slippaz, I’d love a runback with the guy who basically made my team! And Fizzy, thanks for so much tech with Dante and Frank, I keep stealing those combos from you!
More frank questions coming up, mainly with jam session. What is the timing for knee drops or medium roundhouses during jam session to cause hard knockdowns at the end of combos (mainly for magneto raw tag combo.)? I used to be pretty consistent with it, but I have been missing it more and more lately. Any advice?
Honestly, I don’t think I’d be able to tell you the timing off hand. It’s more of a, practice it a lot and it’ll come to you naturally. I do suspect that some characters require different timing though. With anything timing-based, the answer is pretty much always go to Training Mode and practice it a lot.
Nice nice! I wish I could claim that I’d “made that team,” but I just refined it a little and tried to get it some more attention. Been messing with it and it’s goood though. Yo with Mags back dash + Cart into kara Blast is prettyyy beastly btw lol. Just started using that liberally and you can autopilot tridash L to either high/low on block or confirm on hit. Also a quick dash, superjump cancel, tridash H is pretty left/right ambiguous and if you do it empty you land righttt when the blockstun from Cart ends for a throw. Just sayin haha.
As far as the Jam Session stuff goes…I can offer a little advice on Knee Drop at least. For me, the difference between hitting and whiffing seems 100% how close together the assist call and the Snapshot are. You really need to do those as close together as possible and Knee Drop should hit. I say that in case you’re missing it in the lab and think the problem is on the Knee Drop end and not the Snapshot end. Unfortunately, you can actually do the two too close together and keep Jam Session from hitting before the opponent lands/techs. That’s a big pain in the ass, but you just need to lab the timing for a really fast Assist/Snapshot sequence that doesn’t cause a tech.
For Roundhouse M…I prefer to do that as fast as possible as well, but you ideally want to space the Assist/Snapshot a little more than you would for Knee Drop IMO so you can just buffer Roundhouse M out of Snapshot. You can actually roundhouse while they’re still in Jam Session and have it not hard knockdown, which is really annoying
That being said, the main instance for Mags/Dante/Frank where you use Jam Session and Roundhouse is when you hard tag (Mags --> Frank) and call Jam Session into Snapshot. You don’t actually need that extra bit of meter to get your hyper at the end (veryyy probably), especially because you’re doing that combo when you’ve already built meter from chip/zoning/drop. You really don’t need to do it if it’s giving you trouble.
I personally skip the Roundhouse M when I level from Dante and just do 2 Snapshots. Fizzykups does it though because apparently he’s “Optimus Prime” lol (not my doing on that name). Take it or leave it if it gives you trouble. If you really want it, you gotta grind it out.
Incidentally, Shockwave xx DT is a reallyyy dumb left/right. The fact that it gives you chainsaws from a little beyond midscreen is crazy.
Looking for a way to level up frank with firebrand/frank(shopping cart)/doom
I’d prefer doom beam but am down for whatever. I’d like a TAC less option. Really struggling to find one that doesn’t rely on frank point dhc into firebrand luminous body, the hard tag. I mean it works but would prefer a. Firebrand starter
@Count_0laf
Hey so after watching one of Fizzykups’ matches I realized something I should have known about Roundhouse M but actually didn’t somehow… When you do Snapshot, Jam Session, Roundhouse, you need to actually be a little away from the opponent for the Roundhouse to connect, so you need to anticipate the combos that require back dashes. From Magneto, you would work Roundhouse in as follows:
(These aren’t necessarily the optimal versions of the level-ups, but they’re the situations where you might see Roundhouse M)
Hard Tag Frank, Jam Session, Snapshot, Roundhouse M – No back dash
Hard Tag Frank, Snapshot, Survival Techniques, DHC to DT/tag, Jam Session, Snapshot, Roundhouse M – No back dash
Hard Tag Frank, THC, s.S sj.S, Tools H, L Zombie, Roundhouse M, backdash+Jam Session, Snapshot, Roundhouse M
Hard Tag Dante, stuff, DHC to Shockwave, DHC to Survival Techniques, backdash+ Jam Session, Roundhouse M
So basically it mirrors the Knee Drops…in any situation above where you don’t need a backdash to do Roundhouse M, you need to add a forward dash to Jam Session before you Snapshot so that you can Knee Drop. In the above situations where you do have to backdash for Roundhouse M to connect, you don’t have to do any dashing to Knee Drop.
Alright. So I’m thinking of X/Frank/Ammy. Who’d be a really good point character? Someone said Nova but I’m not too keen on playing that character. I was thinking Dante/Frank/Ammy but Jam Session + Cold Star seems redundant… any ideas?
My thing about Ammy is that Cold Star and Shopping Cart will always feel a little too similar for me with respect to the point character. I do like X/Frank/Ammy for a lot of reasons, but I promise you’re gonna feel let down by your levelup options after spending so much time with your main team
If you really like Ammy, try to find someone who can Follow My Lead well if Frank dies, I guess? Doom/Frank/Ammy would be…ok…but point Doom with Cart and Cold Star seems pretty lackluster. Dante…actually I think we talked about this a long time ago…it’s not the best, but the upside is that it would give you a lot of practice with Dante/Cart (+similar assist) for your main team. I’d be interested to see what suggestions people make, but, however good Ammy is as a Frank anchor, I just don’t think there are any really solid points there to make that team efficient.
My suggestion would be to keep running Dante somewhere and use the opportunity to learn a more widely-applicable character while only having to swap our one of our main squad members. So:
Doom/Frank/Dante – because Doom’s god-tier support in this game and it might be useful to know him at some point
Mags/Dante/Frank – because god yes and you can get Akbar to show you the smart stuff (and me to show you the less intelligent, but Frank/Cart-related stuff)…And Magnus is sooooo much fun!
Zero/Dante/Frank – because learning Zero/Jam Session is never a bad thing
Vergil/Dante/Frank – because Vergil
Chris/Frank/Dante or Chris/Dante Frank – I don’t know him, but it does seem to me as if he would have some good matchups that don’t overlap with Spencer’s. Could be wrong, though.
Or follow Cape’s lead and run Deadpool…because from what he tells me there’s a ton of reliable tech and mannnn that sounds like fun, lol. Wolverine…
You could also run a point Dante team with Raccoon or Iron Man on anchor…I enjoy those, but that’s a lotta work you gotta put in lol.
But maybe I’m just overly negative about the options anchor Ammy leaves you with. I really can’t think of anyone who’s great there, though I do think Nova would be the best bet. Tenderizer/Cold Star? Yehh…
EDIT: Wait MODOK! Could this work? MODOK/Frank/Ammy? I could see this working…
It’s just a side team, haha. Got to play with Ammy some during a casual session and she’s really fun, but Point/Dante/Frank will always be, in my eyes, the only viable tournament Frank team.
MODOK/Frank/Ammy actually sounds really legit. Like… FFC xx Killer Illumination sounds trolly as fuck. Though after the last Ranbat I have gained a lot of respect for Firebrand/Ammy, so I might mess with that too. Worse comes to worse, I’ll just make an entirely non-Frank team to satisfy my urge to play the dog, haha.
Yo that MODOK sonnn! I know Cape was messing with MODOK/Frank and was loving the FFC xx KI setups…god that sounds miserable lol. I’ve been playing Thor so much lately I have real respect for the grounded command grab game. That being said, you could also level and bring MODOK back in because IIRC Killer Illumination gives the opponent a few frames to jump…which means you’d basically be baiting an FFC lol. Sounds evillll.
But yeah, I didn’t think of Firebrand, but I gotta say that sounds pretty sick too. I just think that Frank/Psionic Blast might be worth more than FB’s stuff…but I know a few people here make Nova/Frank/Ammy work, which means they’re basically only working with Cold Star. I know less about Firebrand’s assists than MODOK’s, but Bomb/Barrier could be interesting too…might discover something surprising who knows.
With Dante you combo into a Grapple for a reset and then do cL(hit) sH(whiff) to DT and DHC to FFC. Catches all techs even midscreen. Its pretty cool.
And something else I found. When you do Jam Session in the corner we know you can do a picture to QCF+M or jdH and midscreen you can hit either S or SRK+M(inconsistent) well it also turns out that you can hit jS (if you have your ground bounce) and get a follow up off that. I managed to do jS jdH jQCF+H (with DP) SRK+M SRK+H into super.
