We’ve butted heads on this before. I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again; if you want to do situational blue light special snap setups be my guest. Me? I want something that works everywhere, everytime. There’s enough risk associated with the character without having to worry about whether or not you get chainsaws because you’re not in the right spot on screen.
I’m talking reliable setups. Just took me a bit longer to find them is all.
I also just realized something else new:
Using Hammer Throw Zombies to cover your assist calls
Call Assist, then toss zombie, zombie absorbs one attack (fireball, etc). Since the recovery is so low, you can approach with the assist then.
Too many projectiles on good characters are piercing or multiple projectiles, which will tear right through that setup.
Yeah I’d definitely use the horizontal or parabolic (prob horizontal) arrows with Task. What I hear on the Dante forums is that they’re not thattt great for Dante, but I think i could make them work. Shopping Cart’s already pretty dirty for him, so I shouldn’t have too much trouble. I’d really like to use quickwork, but I have absolutely no faith in Deadpool lol.
And yeah Thor/Frank/Dante could be fun, but really the whole idea behind my secondary team is that I want to play Dante on point so I can have some fun with him when he’s backed up by assists. I’m transitioning from pad to stick right now so I’ve been spending a lot of time in the lab and I’m just really enjoying Dante atm, haha. I think he’s a really sick point character for Frank too, people just tend to anchor him because he has such good leveling tech in that position.
Incidentally, what would you recommend for consistent leveling setups with anchor Sentinel? I haven’t messed with him much, so I’m kind of having trouble envisioning it.
What assists will you be using? Will Frank be running second?
It’d be Dante/Frank/Sentinel with Jam Session. I’ve seen the THC Sentinel has, but it seems pretty tricky. I was wondering if you’ve found some stable variations/alternatives.
Drones for a second cart is good, using level 3+ QCF+M into knee drop (roll) THC is stable.
If you throw you can do QCF+LxxQCB+AA (DHC to Frank whiffed ST) and get a launcher and a short combo, then use drones to get a second cart with a picture.
Alright, I know the optimal thing to do is drop Wright, but just follow me for a moment. Thinkin’ of sellin’ my soul and picking up Vergil, but since my shell is Wright/Frank… that means dropping Dante. Think I should tag Vergil in, or should I keep Dante?
Dante is better for Frank than Vergil
You shouldn’t run that shell. You don’t have to drop either character but you should really run them on separate teams. If you’re thinking about picking up Vergil, definitely don’t run that shell. Vergil is usually placed on a team for insurance as opposed to any synergy. You could probably run Wright/Frank May Cry though.
If you want to stick with it, then pick Dante over Vergil. He works really well with both characters (as do Ammy, Spencer, etc.).
Yeah, it’s not an easy shell to run. It relies on getting Turnabout, which does greatly help Frank. But it’s definitely a hard shell to run.
fro the shell.Yeah, I was thinking of “Vergil Insurance” but Dante really is better.
It also forces you to use press the witness/break the witness, which sucks in the neutral game. Get Em Missile is so much better overall. Less safe, but better.
The Wright/Frank duo wouldn’t be that bad IF one of those characters was levelled up from the start (and both transformations were permanent). You’d then have one good character backed up by a decent assist. Level 5 Frank with fullscreen low? That seems fine. Turnabout Wright with lockdown assist? That works too.
So I have changed my team to what I hope will be a strong and reliable team:
Viper (BK) / Frank (Cart) / Dante (Jam)
Any suggestions, ideas, or tech?
My suggestion? Get rid of Frank and put in strider
Mine is drop Viper and run Dante(Jam)/Frank(Cart)/Iron Man(Unibeam)
But I actually kind of mean that somewhat seriously as a temporary measure since you have anchor IM experience. As someone who runs an anchor Dante team, I’ll vouch for the value of playing him on point as you learn him. His neutral game in anchor is fine, but it can be tricky if you don’t have the uses for all his tools burned into your brain. I’m saying this not having noticed you running Dante before, but if you have then ignore me, lol.
As far as your real team goes, my small piece of advice is: Abuse Camera Shot + Jam Session when Viper dies (or even when Frank’s leveled). That duo is just too good and powers you through to level 3 (or higher) immediately.
Also, I don’t know if you saw 650fosho’s response (elsewhere) when I posted that Jam Session guard break, but it couples really well with his version–which is techable, but still nice and pretty tough to react to.
That shouldn’t be a temporary measure. Viper cant level Frank without slant shot, a one hit combo raw tag, tac or spacing dependent blue light specials. None of those options are good
I’d personally agree, but I don’t play Viper. I guess she’s not of the up-and-coming airdash S into hardtag class? Probably not, but if she were Frank’d get level 4 pretty easily if you went light on Jam Session for Viper’s neutral.
As far as my suggestion goes, though, I will say that I’m gaining more respect by the day for Dante/Frank/X as a shell. I love Nova/Frank, so I won’t comment on that, but Skrull is no longer in my top 2 Frank point characters. Nova/Frank might not be my #1 anymore either, but I won’t commit yet
I just finished the recording for my team building guide last night (there’s some editing to do plus doing the mostly speaking downtime we’re probably going to put in match footage so it may be a while before it’s actually released though) and for the X/Frank/X Shell I really consider Skrull/Nova/Dante to be the big three. If you’re running X/X/Frank though that’s where Vergil/Spencer/Spiderman start to shine. There’s also some characters that do significantly better with one template than another (and a whole bunch of characters that don’t work at all in either template).
Yeah I should have been clear that I was talking about point characters for X/Frank/X teams. Since that seems to be the more common template atm, I’m just surprised we’re not seeing more Dante/Frank/X. I guess it’s either the execution or the fact that Dante’s such a popular anchor, but assist/meter-wise he’s superior to Nova/Skrull; level-tech wise he’s actually better (since snapping Frank in early doesn’t force a TAC or a Frank combo depending on both assists being available); and I’d argue that, with shopping cart and the right anchor assist, his neutral game is significantly better than Skrulls and somewhat better than Nova’s (although on paper I suppose he’s quite a bit better than both). Obviously that depends on the matchups though, so I can’t really generalize there.
EDIT: Also…Nice I’ll be looking forward to that video.
Nova/Skrull can do the early DHC for Frank followups whereas Dante cannot. That’s their one big perk Dante lacks. In most other categories Dante either rivals or beats Skrull/Nova (though Nova’s neutral is comparable, which is important since your goal is always first touch. I like Nova with shopping cart myself). Dante’s harder to use though. still wish people would put him in the front of a Frank team instead of the back.
