Well it sounds like his shopping cart is uber good. I’d still like to see some of the potential uses for the weapon attack in extended combos.
Here’s a list of characters that you can get 4 levels with frank with only 2 meters using BASIC combos. The key word there is basic. If you can get more then you’ll have a better shot at getting to 5.
Amatersu
Ghost Rider
Super Skrull
Vergil
Dante (can get 5)
Ryu
MODOK
Taskmaster
Thats all I found so far.
Also, these are all in the corner. Haven’t tried open space yet.
Nice, good to hear Taskmaster, Ghost Rider and Vergil can call get him to level 4.
Ok, using basic magic series combos and a relaunch, you can do it in open space with :
Dante using Weasel Shot
Ghost Rider using Chain assist or Hell Fire
Super Skrull using Orbital Grudge
Taskmaster using H. Arrows
So it seems like Dante is the best team mate with Frank compared with the rest. The only problem with Dante is if you are using Weasel Shot to try to play cross up roll games with Frank, it’s not so hot. If your opponent is too small and you are too close to your opponent while doing the roll and calling out Dante, Weasel Shot will go right over you’re opponents head. So you need another character with an assist and help you play roll cross up games.
Nice, i was thinking about using Ammy or Skrull so this is good news.
What about Shuma-Gorath? I just bought him, and I’m thinking of using Frank/MODOK/Shuma
Anyways, I’m pretty sure you could raw tag after Dorm’s level 3 and get a picture.
Let me toss this up as a possibility, then?
Frank (Shopping Cart or Weapons/Tools, your choice) + Dante slot 2 (Jam Session) + Amaterasu anchor (Cold Star).
Does this give you everything you need? A projectile assist of note that is also good for roll coverage, a THC that gets you to level 4 or 5, and even a sorta-kinda anti-air in Jam Session?
Ah, thanks for the info. That’s cool though, Frank’s basic abcs, j.m, j.m, j.h, j.236h, 2c, s, j,m, j,m, j.h, j.s -> THC with RR for the level 4 is good enough for me.
Cross-posting here for relevance: Chris0419 did some THC testing for us yesterday. I don’t think this is a complete test, but it’s video proof of some things in any case: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CnRyv9s_23c
Also worth considering… Iron Man for THC partner, on Unibeam Assist? Gets you a good Beam, and Proton Cannon THC. Does the Proton Cannon give you a photo op?
Riddle me this, though, if you can get to level 5 using a Frank/Dante combination… Why settle for a different character? It’s not like you’re stuck with a bad character. And his assist is right dandy as well. Heck it feels like you could just play Frank/Dante and then any other character on third spot.
On topic though, I’m thinking about revising my team that I stated earlier. Dante is definitely in and will stay in my second spot for sure, but I’ll use Jam Session with him. Since that’s a defensive assist, I’ll replace Skrull with a different character with a quick assist for easy left/right mixups off Frank’s CvS2 roll. I’m thinking a beam that does lots of hits like Doom.
So Mafia Frank + Orange Dante + Orange Doom reporting in?
You don’t really have convince anyone that Dante is great character. He was top 5 in vanilla IMO, he helps Frank greatly and has probably more options/potential than any other character. Personally i just don’t like to play Dante. I’ll play him if i have to, but i’d rather not.
I heard that Amaterasu’s Okami shuffle is a good THC option for Frank, so right now i’m going with that. Also i think Ammy’s cold star assist will work nicely for Frank. White Frank/white Ammy/white Doom.
Haha, by that logic we should all tier whore and only pick the best teams possible in the game. Why use Frank and Dante when _____ and ______ are better?
And of course, I’m sure we’ll be discovering more ways to reliably get Frank to lvl 5 over time. The difference between level 4 and level 5 doesn’t seem all that vital or big in the first place, so don’t resign yourself to playing Dante if that’s the only reason you want him.
What about Nemesis.
You could practically take two pictures in his hyper.
I won’t play Dante because I don’t enjoy him.
I play MODOK/Shuma. I think that says a lot about whether or not I take this game seriously.
Heh, well, I’m a bit of a tier whore anyway. I like to pick a character that’s mid to high tier and build a top tier team around that character to give him a boost. For instance, my main character in Vanilla is Spencer. I use Wesker and Sentinel purely as tools, so my Spencer can be as good as possible. Even though I didn’t like Wesker at first, I picked him up so I could perform at my best. I’m playing to win after all, and after a while he grew on me.
Besides all that I think Frank is gonna be a really strong character in Ultimate, Dante’s really strong and pretty fun to play too. Of course I gotta keep tournaments in mind, so yeah, I always strive to make the best possible team. I’ve got lots of team ideas to look out for in the first few weeks, even for the characters that aren’t automatically top/high tier.
Nemesis doesn’t do very many hits though, so Frank would have to provide a long combo before the THC. Doesn’t mean it’s impossible or even a bad idea, just less convenient than Frank plus Dante or Amaterasu.
As far as the “why not Dante?” thing… I just don’t like his character aesthetic. In an ideal world, I’d be able to do well with characters whose looks/personality/game-of-origin/etc. appeal to me. I get that with Frank West and most likely Amaterasu as well. If I have to, I’ll run Dante to make Frank more effective… I’d rather not, but I can live with a team of two characters I really like plus a character I strongly dislike, since two out of three ain’t bad. In the absolute worst case scenario, I’d move Amaterasu to the second slot for THC purposes and pick someone else for my anchor so that’s an option too.
Right now I’m thinking Tron/Arthur/Frank, though the second slot is really just there to have someone who has a transformation super. I’m thinking that Tron can build meter and get a lot of hits on the hit counter(the whole 100 hits if a full combo hits), and after all the meter building and comboing ending in the Tron lunchtime super I would dhc when the gun hits into a transformation super, then raw tag Frank in and snap the picture while being able to continue the combo or tag Tron back in. The main problem is just landing that first hit with Tron. The THC might also work with Frank also.
I don’t know how much luck you’ll have with a Tron/Frank THC. Tron’s THC is King Servbot, which doesn’t do all that many hits to begin with. You might have better luck with DHCing into Frank, as you mentioned before discussing THCs.
I see synergy between Frank and Dormammu. Combo into Floating Bomb with Dorm, tag in Frank, level up. (EDIT: This is confirmed to not work. Oh, well.)
Also, Dark Hole and/or Purification assist seem like good “hold-still-while-I-do-a-roll-mixup” assists.
Dormammu/Frank West/Chun-Li is what I’m thinking. Which may change once I get the goddamn game.
I tested out other characters just to see what my options are. Is it viable for Frank to be teamed with someone other then Dante? Absolutely, but Dante fits him the best so far. Of course new technology is sure to be found, but right now, Frank and Dante work very well and it’s not just because Dante gets Frank to level 5 easy. Even if you do use Weasel Shot, you can play games against people not knowing that Weasel Shot misses against smaller characters up close. If you want to use Frank competitively and not have him as anchor for his assist, it doesn’t get better then Dante at least for right now. I just don’t know who I will use an anchor. I’m actually thinking of doing Dante, Frank, Ryu. I’m also trying to come up with the best possible Vergil / Frank team as well.
