Group Photo Ops- The Frank West Team Building Thread

Anyone know a way to level Frank up with Storm after a corner combo? Hailstorm xx Survival Techniques works after a midscreen knockdown since it puts you further away from the corner, but in the corner its too close and you don’t have time to backdash.

I’m working on a team with Jill/Frank, and I want to be able to have a backup means of getting L4 without needing to go to the usual Dante/Nova/Skrull. Plus I was hoping to find a team to put Storm on =(

Strider is honestly fine because nova can confirm off of Vajras pretty much from full screen (about 3/4s to be exact). You can try Hawkeye in the third spot, Vergil in the second spot (wong styled), or maybe even Amaterasu or Skrull.

Hey just quoting you guys as you both seem to know the most about Frank - no offense to anyone else, I’m new in the Frank section.

Anyway, I want to run Zero/Ironman/Frank - does Ironman have any way to level up Frank besides a TAC?

The Frank Team I’m trying out is Frank West (Shopping Cart)/Iron Fist (Rising Fang)/Dormammu (Dark Hole)

Now people that might be better than me can probably extend this, but with lag and such I can never seem to get the (in the air) :m: :d::df::f::l: multiple times to link before people jump out of it consistently online.

But my combo goes…

:d::db::b::l: :d::m: :h: :s: (in air) :m: :m: :m: :h: :d::h: :d::df::f::s: :a2: :h::s:(in air) :m::m::h::s: :d::df::f::s: :a1: (then off the wall bounce) :d::df::f::s:

That is a 28 hit combo for 426,800 but the breakdown on PP is 10, 26, and 28… Also if you want to off of that you can Survival Techniques to go to a 43 hit combo and 571,200 in total damage when they recover off the last snap shot reset by Barrel Roll to the other side or hope they try to poke you or aren’t blocking.

So that combo costs 0 Gauge and gets you to Level 4 and really a good start to Level 5. The Assists compliment each other very well too because they help characters get in, and in Frank’s case can help you either start up combos or get a free Snap Shot with a free 9-10 PP (Dark Hole) or give you very good anti-air (which I find people coming in the air to kind of be a weak point for Frank) in (Rising Fang).

Also the reason I chose it that way is because :l: Giant Swing is usually the best way to get in, but in all honesty you just have to just get the combo started even if by the basic :l: :m: :h: :s:

Also the bulk of the combo works from any part of the screen.

It’s good for people who don’t like Foot Diving or being able to have OTG regular attacks (not even special moves, we’re talking :m: and :h: and have all day to do it to hit your opponent OTG in Dr. Doom or a character that can cancel himself out of any screw up he makes and have at least one move for ever situation in Dante.

In an interview recently Justin mentioned that his team of Spencer Vergil Frank can level Frank to 4+ on any hit. I’m intrigued on how this can be accomplished when Frank is anchor and the first point gets the initial hit. Does anyone know exactly how he’s doing this off of a Spencer hit? Im attempting this now in training with Magneto Vergil Frank. When I can corner carry with Mag, im doing Tempest DHC Swords, 2 helm breakers into Lunar phase, then raw tagging Frank in during the Lunar Phase’s ground bounce.

For some reason sometimes Frank will hit as he’s coming in for the raw tag ruining the whole thing! But mainly my question is, with a team of Magneto xxx Frank (likely x will remain Vergil, but Im not married to it), how can one level Frank to 4+ off a hit from character 1 when Frank himself is level 3, without needing 3 meters and without needing to double TAC? I dont mind using TAC to level, but requiring two leaves things a tad too much to chance for my taste.

Is the above combo how Justin (or anyone with anchor frank) is leveling? Or is there an alternate way? I saw above Drybones mentioned using Vergil’s assist during the point’s combo forcing Frank to be the TAC, but Im not sure where I can consistently get in a rapid slash during a basic Mag bnb. Anyway, any ideas how I can land a Magneto hit and convert Frank West into Fr4nk We5t? Thanks!

That’s the exact same setup Justin is using to level Frank up. He’ll do a basic BnB with Spencer ending in Bionic Maneuvers, DHC into Spiral Swords, do a SS vergil combo that ends in lunar phase and then raw tag Frank. He’ll also use spencer’s slantshot assist to get two pictures and thus, level 5 Frank.

Probably a dumb question, but worth asking: Does Magneto have any way to level up Frank on a hit, whether via TAC, DHC, whatever? I imagine he prob could with an XFC or something, but obv we don’t want that. Just wondering because if he CAN (which I doubt), then Frank would fit in great between the Mag xxx Doom shell I’ve been playing a lot. Thanks!

Well, everyone can level Frank up from a TAC, it’s a universal ability. Magneto can get frank to level 4 by doing gravity squeeze then raw tagging Frank. He also MIGHT be able to do a would-be dhc glitch by doing Hyper Grav xx Magnetic Tempest into whiffed Survival Techniques to take a picture but not sure if that works, I don’t play Mags. But If you wanna play Doom, he has ways to get Frank to level 4 guaranteed with Air Photon Array!

How does he do it from a tac? I thought that required an install super? If not that’s great, just not sure how it’d work otherwise. Grav squeeze way too much meter for a levelup. 2 is ok, 3+ a bit excessive imo.

Seperate question: anyone else besides vergil who can be brought in at the 2nd slot via dhc or tac, and somehow setup an anchor frank levelup? Essentially, who. Else can be put in slot 2 that allows for slot 1 to land a hit and level up a slot 3 frank without requiring more than 1 tac or 2 meters?

Regarding Magneto, you can do Magnetic Tempest DHC into whiffed survival techniques by having the Tempest whiff in the air so techniques whiffs. That said, it’s not terribly effective, more of the payoff that you have Magneto and Frank on a team.

For anchor Frank, there’s a couple options. If the first hyper is a hard knockdown and the second person has a power up hyper, that can work. Likewise if the second character has a hard knockdown hyper you can whiff a survival techniques, but then that’s three meters (a la JWong’s old Felicia/Nova/Frank setup). Trish can do round harvest and dormammu a ball in certain situations to let a raw tag snap shot, but both of those entail aerial snapshots, which leave you prone until you land. Rocket Raccon 2nd could probably allow you to do a hyper trap with the proper starter, but it wouldn’t be terribly effective. Spencer can hard tag in Frank for a snapshot at the end of an aerial unscaled grapple, which if you save your wallbounce you can tack on to the end of any bionic maneuvers. There’s probably 1 or 2 other ways you can make it work (Phoenix Wright for example), but nothing else comes to mind offhand.

Damn, I was just thinkin that shopping cart could be excellent for mags

Hey guys, what are your thoughts on Nova/Frank/Sent over Nova/Frank/Hawkeye? Both in greyhound vs drones for Nova and Frank (Frank in specific since that’s what we discuss) and comeback potential. I’ve seen enough of what drones can do for my dynamic duo but I really like anchor hawkeye and I feel that with Sent I’d just be downgrading my team. Thoughts?

Better for pressure, but Frank really doesn’t open up people with his killer high/lows/mixups. Not to mention you still have the problem of no level up backup plan after Nova dies.

Well Drones offer better combo extension for more PP so I was aiming at that :stuck_out_tongue:

EDIT: Ok I’m looking at every available option so here’s a few more options I might consider: Ammy, Arthur and Tasky.

Ammy:

  • Amazing THC that would give frank instant level 4 (probably 5).
  • Very capable anchor.
  • Amazing team utility with Cold Star and Vale of Mist.
  • Cold Star, while amazing, might not synergize all that well with Nova or Frank (feel free to correct me on this, there may be tech I’m unaware of).

Arthur:

  • Dagger might actually be amazing for both Nova and Frank
  • Anchor Arthur with lvl3 xfactor and golden armor is legitimately terrifying
  • Amazing THC that would also give Frank level 4 instantly.
  • Laughable mobility
  • Gets countered way too hard by the enemy’s xfactor so he can’t chip and without that he seems to be (in my eyes) a way worse Hawkeye. Thoughts on this one in particular?
  • Boxers Arthur… Just Boxers Arthur.

Taskmaster:

  • Exactly the same assist as Hawkeye
  • Same as everyone else, amazing THC to let Frank level up
  • Very fun character to use, and definitely my type (not that this matters much in competitiveness but it’s a factor :P)
  • Mediocre anchor due to lack of mixups on his own.

What are your takes issue? Anything I might’ve missed that’s relevant and you would like to add?

I think if you’re changing your anchor, you should seriously consider Vergil.

+Nova/Vergil/Frank, off the first hit you can either DHC to Devil Trigger and Hard tag Frank to get Lv.4 + DT’d Rapid Slash assist and anchor vergil, or DHC to swords for a kill, or DHC to swords without using the ground bounce (not possible off the very first action of the match) to rack up more hits to Lunar Phase, raw tag Frank for Lv.5. The swords to raw tag setup also puts most point characters in chip territory for Frank to finish off.
+If Nova dies, you have Vergil/Frank. You still have great mixups, great damage, and potential for Level 5 frank.
+If your team order gets screwed up and Frank ends up in at low level, as long as Vergil is alive, THC to LV.4 at least.
+Rapid Slash + Zombie Toss lets Frank combo off a zombie from full screen.
+Rapid Slash gives Nova the CR extensions after ground pound.
+CR is a great assist for Vergil combos if you want to keep it simple instead of sword loops
+Vergil

  • No full screen horizontal coverage for Nova, sort of
  • Potential to end up with Frank anchor if your first two characters get blown up unanswered, but really, you should be losing in this situation anyway.

All the stuff in the middle is nice, but the first and last positives are the killers for me. I hate the fact that Nova/Frank does not have the option to kill off the first hit without x-factor, it’s why i play Nova/Hulk as a sub team. But with Nova/Vergil you get the option to do either based on matchups and situations. That’s amazing.

And yeah, you get to play Vergil…

Of the other potentials you listed, Ammy is by far the best anchor, but only good Ammy is a good anchor. Arthur is terrible unless your opponent burns X-Factor first, or calls assists, in which case they’re an idiot. Task is solid, his arrows are a little different to Hawk, come out slower but stay on screen longer, and he’s a decent anchor.

Also while i’m here Zansam, are you the dude that made Divekick top 8 at UFGT?

I thought about vergil quite a bit especially after I saw Wong doing work with him at ECT and CEO but honestly I just don’t like using that character competitively, so that’s why I wanted to stay away from him. Definitely considering Ammy though, and now that I’m playing a bit with her, I might just switch for good.

I’m of the opinion that nearly every Frank team should either have the X/X/Frank template with the two being characters who can maximize shopping cart assist (though that said such a team has difficulty maximizing Frank himself, even if they can get him leveled), or X/Frank/X template, where both characters can level Frank and help cover the holes in his gameplan. the first focuses more on the other two, the last focuses on Frank. Either way, I think they’re the best ways to maximize all aspects of the character. I’ll rejoice once point Frank goes away (if ever).

And yes, the very same Zansam. UNACCEPTABLE.

Yeah, i’m the same way. I think that team is incredibly good, but i don’t want to play Vergil. Teleport characters just don’t mesh with me.

Anyone know of any other assists besides Nova’s that you can call right before taking an OTG pic that allows for a 2nd pic (Nova has 2, right?)? Im assuming Vajra would work but dunno if it connects fast enough. Basically, as I’d broached above, Im still trying to think of practical ways of leveling Frank to 4 off stray Magneto hits (with Frank 2nd or 3rd, doesnt matter as long as I enjoy the other character).

Zansam offered some ideas above, and a DHC from Tempest to Vergil swords may end up the best way. But then you run into problems like if they don’t end up in the corner, or other reasons, such as awkward confirms, that Mag might not be able to end his portion w/ a Tempest. I can’t really do, like, 8 reps of Grav loop or anything, so Shockwave DHC swords easily gets me lvl 3, but is always shy of lvl 4. This can be mitigated sometimes by making sure the Cart is part of the combo, but you can’t always be sure of that.

Basically, if Mag can just do some basic BNB, TAC to Frank’s normal Survival SKills sequence, and then use some assist that lets him take 2 pics instead of 1, we could be in business. Incidentally, assuming the 2 meters for DHC, any landed Mag throw assures Mag Vergil Frank the level up. But I dunno how consistent a game plan “just land a throw and you’re set” is, even though Mag lands throws pretty well. If the opp knows that’s what you want, can be pretty easy to prevent. Though I s’pose that does open them up to frame traps… but still. lol <shrug>

do air hypers dhc into blue light special allow for relaunches? for itsnance if i use modok and super jump and do hyper psionic blaster DHC into blue light special, should I be able to relaunch off of the wall bounce?
