Let’s see, Reddish-haired 17 year old who’s style is total fighting…, I know KOF does a lot of cool homages(K999/Tetsuo Shima), so really cool they did Baki as well

edit: well there’s another explanation for Gai Tendo looking like Baki, I read over on a KOF board that Buriki One(where Gai comes from) was originally supposed to be a Grappler Baki game, hence Gai looking just like baki, being 17 years old, and having baki’s style. Also the boss character Silber was originally Yuujirou. >_>, I’m still trying to find proof of this though, but looking at silber’s designs, if you look at his eyebrows, those are definitely Yuujirou’s(the unique eyebrow arch the hanmas have, though other characters have eyebrows similar to it).

Yeah, when I first unlocked Gai in KOFXI, he instantly reminded me of Baki. Pretty solid character in XI.

^No, ritualscanforge doesn’t do english scanlations, they have an english translator, but they’re a french trans group.

[media=youtube]PoYaHOILuGs&feature=related[/media] <- Probably the most obvious proof that this was originally a baki game, not only because of Gai’s intro, but also that specific shot of the tokyo dome at the end, where the underground tournament takes place, is a pretty iconic scene featured a lot in the Baki series. I still haven’t been able to confirm with VeggieH8er, the guy who first posted that Buriki was a Baki game, but if you look closely enough, the remnants are there.

Also just read on youtube that SNK did admit in an interview that they were heavily inspired by Baki when they made Buriki, which pretty much solidifies the connection for me, and SNK did one hell of a job with the homages to Baki and Yuujirou. Silber’s one hell of a beast.

SPOILER for 170 and 171

170: It looks like Baki pissed all over the ring just to insult Pickle, which worked successfully, as Pickle is PISSED now, about as pissed as when Jack bit his ear off. He basically soccer spikes Baki to the ground

171: The fight continues, and Oliva and Yuujirou appear in descriptive panels, since I can’t read japanese it’s hard to tell, but it’s like it’s showing Baki as the sum of his strongest opponents previous, of course that’s just a guess though, can’t be sure without trans.

Edit: Jimmy, I’m not too sure about that, as I really am interested to see how the world responds post Baki/Yuujirou. I don’t think pickle will be a major player at all after this arc, as he was only introduced in the series as a hypothesis for what humans gained/lost in the history of human existence. He’s basically served that purpose after this fight, and if he lives, there’s pretty much no reason for him to feature in any large capacity, though I’d love to see a Pickle/Yuujirou fight. ;_;

word up. i could be wrong, but wasnt the pickle arc just something random on the side that ended up turning into a arc just from demand and interest?

^Yep. Pickle was not supposed to last beyond his one shot special, but the character became so popular he was given his own arc.

Hahha yeah, it was a special gaiden Itagaki released during the week of Obama’s Inaguration,

Basically, Obama’s going out for an exercise run as the new president of the United States, little does he know, only a week into his presidency some fools want to kill him(), a guy tries to off Obama, and Gaia stops and kills the assassin, receiving Obama’s thanks.

EDIT: It’s the reason why I was so surprised seeing another Gaia gaiden, as I assumed that was just a one shot to celebrate Obama’s historic moment, but the gaiden must’ve gotten some acclaim or something for a second chapter to be released(unless the Baki LEGENDS volume is gonna be bigger than I thought.)

^yep, all in one chapter Gaia’s really getting some play up, I’ve always wondered how’d Gaia fare against Yuujirou in a natural environment, instead of on a rooftop(which pretty much nullified any environmental advantage).

reading the chinese arc over again right now. that japanese guy retsu fought was mad solid, and aaaaaah the good ol yujiro axe kick. havent seen that in a minute. strength vs logic, and you know who won. i fucks with yujiro and have for the years i been into baki because he just doesnt give a fuck, like kenshiro kasumi from souten no ken. yujiro just travels, doesnt give a fuck, smokes, drinks, fucks, and does whatever and is still god like. his own ego and pride is larger than all those fighters put together. example, when he punched the ground to stop the earthquake in him and baki’s first fight. that ego is what makes him unstoppable. he balances giving the fuck you to the normal life while still enjoying it. like hating women, but would never turn down a dime. the man drink a whole fif of whiskey to himself and then a whole cig down in one drag, and if doppo popped off for any reason, he would have still murked dude. god damn he’s so serious!

my boy k&k from souten no ken is like that too. smokin cigs all the time, and being the best warrior on the planet. shits is mad manly. thats how you live, muscles, ass kickin, drinkin, smoking, dominating, freedom, ego, pride, and overall bad assery. fuck that sissy shit.
