previews from SoO 170 and 171 are up at ritualforge. I used altavista’s terrible babelfish for the 171 summary, and Oliva’s name was mentioned, so 171 should be pretty interesting, especially if pickle finally uses prehistoric speed.

I’m thinking Baki vs Yuujirou, or maybe even a short interlude leading up to it…
Baki doesn’t really have anyone else to challenge him but Yuujirou and Jack(and with Jack lacking ONK, even with the surgery and drugs he’d still wouldn’t be able to beat Baki). Yuujirou has already stated that he’s coming after the winner of Baki vs Pickle as well.

I didnt even know there was a Grappler Baki thread. Its one of my fighting inspirations.
Are we too late on the discussion to talk about the older OVA movie. That was too awesome. Great dynamic poses for each character movement.
^Hahahah not at all, I’ve brought up the ova in th is very thread several times already. I really love the fluidity of the animation, which I felt the anime was sorely lacking, compared to the ova, it was like a lot of the fights were in slow motion except for key storyline fights(but even then there was some moments where the animation was just slow and felt stilted.)
i loved the creepy dude saying “baki … keep on winning.” he said it like “mm you gone get raped by meez!” just very creepy.
the cord cutting i had never seen. and the anime itself wasnt too brutal or dark that it didnt have a fun factor to it. its brutal but theres finesse too. i remember sakurai the japanese fighter reminded me of baki for a while.
i have to go watch the ova again. and lol at doppo orochi grabbin the other guys balls.
very interested in the new chapters. it seems like baki is gonna take this match and then someones gonna teach pickle how to not fight like a wild animal, and then there will be a rematch waaaay down the road at another big tourney. i need another tourney soon!! i dont need to see baki and yujiro fight anytime soon. i dont like that retsu lost his leg a minute ago. i think his character had a lot of interesting shit to bring to the table with his kungfu background.
random memory. i was wanting more from the 100 year old son who looked 27 in the chinese tournament arc. i was like, this dude must got crazy techniques, and he got snuffed quick. ha ha. i expect him back in the next tourney
bewd i havent seen or read the other baki media besides the ova. who is the guy you recolored with his cheeks ripped out. thats badass.
^Hanayama Kaoru, once you start getting in the series you’ll get to know him further. He’s a yakuza boss at only 15(iirc) when he mets Baki in his child years. He basically becomes Baki’s best friend, and always appears in some form during important events in the series.
Edit: Jimmy, I’m not too sure about that, as I really am interested to see how the world responds post Baki/Yuujirou. I don’t think pickle will be a major player at all after this arc, as he was only introduced in the series as a hypothesis for what humans gained/lost in the history of human existence. He’s basically served that purpose after this fight, and if he lives, there’s pretty much no reason for him to feature in any large capacity, though I’d love to see a Pickle/Yuujirou fight. ;_;
Also yeah, the fact that Shunsei jobbed so bad to Baki made me want to throw up again, Itagaki could’ve easily shown Baki’s level without Shunsei getting two shotted. Still not as bad as the Ali Jr. job, as Shunsei didn’t have nearly as much buildup.
This seems like a good watch.
I’m expecting Pickle not to live after this fight. If Baki doesnt finish him, I have a feeling Yuujiro is gonna think he isnt ready and not fight him.
Ali vs Baki is something I wouldnt mind seeing before Baki’s final fight.
Yeah, I want to see them have a REAL match, and not that 2 shot bullshit.
Also to continue the Shunsei bit, I’m highly surprised he hasn’t been mentioned nor seen since his loss to Baki. That Ali Jr. and Shunsei are considered two of Baki’s most dangerous opponents, only to disappear after one fight, is kinda ridiculous. But in Shunsei’s case, Kaku Kaioh did say he should give up fighting after losing so decisively to Baki.
I’ve DLd and watched Baki several times now and never regret the time invenstement.

Let’s see, Reddish-haired 17 year old who’s style is total fighting…, I know KOF does a lot of cool homages(K999/Tetsuo Shima), so really cool they did Baki as well
edit: well there’s another explanation for Gai Tendo looking like Baki, I read over on a KOF board that Buriki One(where Gai comes from) was originally supposed to be a Grappler Baki game, hence Gai looking just like baki, being 17 years old, and having baki’s style. Also the boss character Silber was originally Yuujirou. >_>, I’m still trying to find proof of this though, but looking at silber’s designs, if you look at his eyebrows, those are definitely Yuujirou’s(the unique eyebrow arch the hanmas have, though other characters have eyebrows similar to it).
