Personally I thought they would be cool places to model a GTA locale after.
I would be completely fuckin happy with strait up encores of last gen to be honest. Revisit Vice City then revisit San Andreas but all pimped out and lively like Liberty is now.
i would like to see a bigger and better vice city, in current time. to see what vice city is like since the 80’s.
So. Just got done.
As I figured, much less going on online and no mics. Also people were lagging and making stuff happen/appear random.
I think the sticks are too loose for analog heavy games, but for some reason the cars were easier to drive than 360 and you could drift better. Other than that it appeared darker, and overall textures didnt pop up late like 360, but the framerate did chop up more than 360 when lots of shit happened.
As for another GTA city. It would be a waste to revisit VC and SA, sure the potential to the revamp is amazing, but its more of what we are used to. In a new Vice, there will be more Haitians and Cubans, in a new SA there will be more gangs and Chicanos.
Although I would love Tokyo, especially of they recreate the Shuto, I’m sure it wouldnt happen for 2 reasons, radio and actors.
Hell, just have the voice actors talk with a Japanese accent, that’s enough to get a pass from me. Note I’m talking native English speakers with faked Japanese accents, not native Japanese with real accents trying to speak English. Anyone watched Takashi Miike’s Sukiyaki Western Django? He had all the actors speak English and it was really hard to make out what they were saying half the time.
As for the radio stations, just do the accent thing with the talk shows. Aside from that they can also throw in a couple jpop/jrock stations. I’m sure people wouldn’t mind too much. Plus there are some Jrock bands that sing in English. (Beat Crusaders I think is one).
They can use Japanese voices for the JP version.
Tons of things you can do with GTA: Tokyo. Gambling at the Pachinko parlours, taking hookers to love hotels, visiting the meiji shrine and imperial palace, akihabara, groping schoolgirls on crowded trains, street racing through the Shibuya crossing Tokyo Drift style, or driving a tanker into the crowd, whichever one you prefer.

Thats actually the point. Would rockstar make 100+ cutscenes of “Ah, herro, mistah, mya- boss, is-a eckspecting yuu, prease, take your shoes off and have aah seat. Righta thees whey.” I dont think they’d do it. Theres a alot of overdone accents in GTA, but a whole game where EVERYONE has to use them? Also, I beleive that some GTA humor wouldnt work with it either.
Then the music, is Rockstar going to make a whole OST of Japanese music that only people on a message board for anime and videogames would know? If they got the rights cheap enough, I could see it happening.

I’m not very far into the game, but so far the vast majority of characters I’ve seen in GTAIV aren’t even American. So even if GTA is set in Tokyo you can still have English-speaking characters to round out the cast.
And as for the radio stations, one or two Japanese stations, sure, but then have the rest play American music. That’s not too far off from how many Japanese stations/music works anyway.
The breadth of the city, all the roadways, the hidden alleyways, the nightlife…Tokyo would be a perfect GTA setting.
