the more active frames and lateral movement the divekicks have the more dwu gets stuffed by dimilar if not he same setups in AE with just slight variations
So, after playing ultra gouken on Wednesday for almost 5 hours, I’m gonna share my thoughts, the old man is really good, that ex tatsu buff is amazing, no more axon bullshit for ex jaguar kick or jaguar tooth, no more wiff on Chun Lee ashanzu, no more wiff on crouching opponents, overall I would say it’s one if the best if not. The best dp!!! It has range on top of him, almost a block away from him on grounded opponents and the 5 from startup makes it really good. Cr mp is it way better than before, and way better than I thought too. I doesn’t hit from max range, but sometimes not even gouken is able to hit the opponent from max range with the cr.mp, so you wanna be inside of the imaginary block to be able to hit them. And cr jab, really good, just be able to be like Balrog or chunlee and spam jab feels good, eventhough I couldn’t link it to tatsu, still not used to it!!! So that’s my little grain of salt Here!!!
Not ultra related but this seems to be the current ‘discussion thread’. Why does everyone prefer to do cl.hp x ex palm for punishes instead of cl.mp, cr.hp ex palm? I know it’s easier in clutch situations and if you’re doing ultra 2, its better for scaling, but every other situation i’ve always preferred the latter. It’s still pretty easy to do, and IIRC does more damage, stun and builds more meter.
I’m gonna go out on a limb here because I’m not by my station but there’s no way that hp, ex palm, (ender) does less damage than cl.st.mp, cr.hp, hp palm.
Even if it did, in a clutch situation one shouldn’t use the link. Even though it’s an easy one, you would wanna get rid of anything that would make you otherwise drop the combo. Another note is that ex palm has way more options out of it. Tatsu, palm, sweep, cr.mp reset, f.st.lp reset, dejin or dash shin sho.
LOL… all the canned set ups will faux on delayed wake up.
The manual timing is still boss though, they just made it harder to do, but the reward is more mix up/mind games if you know what’s going to happen (here’s to looking at the technical que).
When I first started picking it apart, I thought it was going to be something that was open and shut… but there’s a bunch of other stuff I started noticing… so I started making a spreadsheet with the “rules” for each MU.
I’m trying to finish it by the weekend… I haven’t played 1 online match up yet… just been picking DWU apart.
Akuma’s new method is very similar, but you have to do it a tad different b/c of his jump arc.
folks…
if you didn’t ride gflip dives nuts before U4, you may wanna open your tech books to page 5150, we will be covering the finer aspects of manually timed dive kicks…
For now I’m ok with Gouken but I would certainly trade that ex tatsu for something else improved. My biggest gripe is that F$%&ing online gameplay. I thought it was just XBL but its happening on PSN as well so believe its game itself thats the problem.
I’ll try not to play conspiracy theory but you think they FUBARed the Netcode on purpose to give Japan an advantage?
You can land front or backside depending on your timing. And the good thing is most reversals are -5 now so even if they escape the first dive kick you land and block the reversal and punish it or the fadc attempt.
Or you can opt to beat both by safe jumping both… Now this is the $500,000,000 question…
You’re right, I apologize sir, I totally read your statement wrong. My only guess is to not drop the link. I do cl.st.hp into ex palm as well and that’s why I do it. If I have a guarantee punish from someone’s mistake I go immediately into guaranteed damage. It’s only like a 20-30 damage decrease after scaling and may come out less than that depending on what you do. That’s not enough for the possibility of dropping the combo. Not to mention if you drop the link you’re -6 and getting punished or wasting 2 bars to make it safe making it 3 wasted bars in total.
