Gouken SF4 Ultra Updates

it looks like he falls slower to the ground than he rises to the air during that tatsu lol someone at Capcom has a twisted sense of how physics work or maybe gouken is light as a feather…lol

You pretty much summed up how I feel. If their paychecks relied on whether Gouken was a complete successful character we would see change. As it stands no matter how good the player they could not take Gouken all the way through EVO.

You saw Infiltration last year when his Akuma was getting handled. He thought for a split second Gouken and said to hell with that.

I fully understand the complaints about regular Tatsus being almost useless outside of certain combos. Except LK Tatsu as it works more or less realiable as anti air if your spacing and reactions are on point. But Gouken has several other reliable AA options anyway. On the other hand there are also other examples of moves being almost useless as non-EX version, coughcough* normal Green Hand punishable on hit… But do we really believe more useful non-EX Tatsus will change anything for Gouken after the USF4 EX Tatsu buff? Are we still not used/adapated to the char specific Tatsu quirks after years of playing the old man? Are there not other, much more important matters or holes in his game plan? I can think of countless other minor buffs being more useful than non-EX Tatsu fixes (after USF4)…

EDIT: also the changes to non-EX Tatsu would need to be enormous to make it an usefull move… no hope…

I’m only a little burned because I feel like the “lack” of attention to Gouken is because there are so few top-level personalities really focusing their attention on playing him. It’s no coincidence that Oni, Dudley, and Evil Ryu got such huge changes… these are characters with tons of crowd appeal and a very large “high level player” lobby.

Like, if Wao or OMH or Sako played a ton of Gouken, we’d definitely be seeing more change. It’s almost like those characters got a bunch of buffs because they were already good, lol.

However I still think that really… the changes we got went in the right direction, absolutely. It’s just that they were baby steps in that direction, and not commitments to the direction. They had two choices, I think: improve Gouken’s footsies and reversal game or improve his zoning (2-hit fireball, for example). Improving his zoning might have made him impossible to reach, so they went with the former, but only halfheartedly.

Preliminary tier lists from high level players have Gouken in the “notable” area, up from low-mid tier to high-mid, or low-high. Top 15, or so, not top 10.

I’ve adapted to the downside of tatsu, but damn… With all that downside there should be a bigger reward for using it.

Kongo is a better AA anyway lol

Yeah, also illustrated by the laughable Gouken vid from Mago (?). Damn, that was embarrassing. I really like Gouken as a char and his unique design and move set. So it can’t be wrong to hope for my main that he becomes a bit better and more consistent. Nobody asks to raise him to top 5 or something.

Although EX Tatsu and 3fr jab buffs are huge (and I am grateful), I wish they had paid more attention to some of the finer details as well.

Unfortunately I believe we won’t see Gouken again in SF5 in some years…

^ I would seriously consider not playing SF5 at all if Gouken wasn’t in it… b/c you know Akuma will be.

Overall Gouken will be just fine.

Did BlackToof release the mod for the most recent changes???

so if I want to pay for a copy or otherwise where do I go for PC?

Steam has it, and the game often goes on sale on Amazon and Greenman Gaming for under $10.

You can always get it online in “other” ways but you obviously won’t be able to play online.

I recommend buying it, if you can. You’ll be able to upgrade it to Ultra for $15 and if you find it on sale between now and then, you’ll end up getting the whole thing for under $30.

Of course you can just wait until Ultra and buy it for $40 and get free costumes

Lol. yeap. This is Gouken. He is… old. It’s interesting that he is bald, and has a long hair at the same time.

Fired? They sould be beaten with their own shoes.

I’d make a larger hitbox to the HK version, and AT LEAST make him able to block once he lands. Like a vertical Blanka Ball of a regular air tatsu from the others. That way he would still be punished, just not that hard.

I’m half tempted to quote this and post in Capcom Unity. Just to see if anyone responds. They probably won’t though.

I just got thrown out of a tatsu by ELF. Man that’s BS.

opponents walking into a ex tatsu that is airborne----smh

and btw my kid jammed something in my controller port so the usb pins were shorting out my system======pero es fixed now…I hope…aka ill be on later

Ah…well at least Gouken looks cool in Street Fighters: Assassin’s Fist.

^ They should do something… i mean… SHIT… Goukens Normal Tatsu might have the worst risk/reward than any move on the game. And it’s by a long shot too… lmao

I thought they were really going to fix his details when they nerfed back throw… boy was I wrong.

Go for it… they can’t nerf his normal versions any worse than they are now… that’s for damn sure.

They haven’t touched his normal tatsu’s once in ANY of these updates!!! And **EVERYBODY **knows it’s a shit move when you take in account risk/reward. I KNOW they heard many requests when they were asking for feed-back.

Sure is. I just say F it against EL Fuerte and FOCUS when I get up. He better not be body splashing though… He’s going to have to grab me damn near every time… lol.

I didn’t yet, but you can get the updated Gouken here if you want to try things out.

  1. Thanks!

  2. Holy fuck, EX Tatsu.

fuck it, in order to win with gouken ya gotta coordinate…

Capcom doesn’t care about balance. Cammy was already complained about and what did they do make another Cammy. On top of that they bringing back old broken versions of characters…so welcome back broken Sagat, Ryu and Akuma.

What does Gouken get? A buff to the Ex version of a terribad move.

I’ve been rockin this look lately.

I like how the yellow helps to hide the ex flash effect.
