Start off your matches with a tatsu , you’ll catch that opening headbutt and wow ur opponent. Or when jumping away, use a short , when he headbutts you’ll reset him, dash forward then bacthrow!!! Its sheeer genius, if I do say so mah damn self!!!
Spam lp hado to force jump ins, once he jumps in cr. fp him rinse and repeat until he finds away around. If you land cr. fp as anti air ~ lp hado for the 2-1 cancel with a slight charge, so it’s ready to meaty his ass in the face as soon as he lands. (This is the most important thing in the match up, you have a fireball and he doesn’t. Frustrate him with it.)
If he does Butt Splash you can kongo him then resort back to ^. Or you can block it and use cr. roundhouse > oki per safe jump and he has no choice but to block on his wake up or get punished. If he tries to butt splash out, block it and cr. roundhouse his ass again > oki. It’s also possible to catch him with EX Palm on the way down to Pain train and he’ll quickly notice atleast 30% of his health gone.
Once he get’s in decent range to focus and be in your face. use cr. lk/mp ~ hado to keep him honest or from focusing that is. Max Range St. hk works well on the entire cast, if you think they are going to walk in, plus it’s safe to do and Honda can’t command grab you after you use it b/c of the push back. Once you’ve got him playing defensive b/c of cr. lk/mp hado, mix it up with cr. lk/mp GF > your GF loop BS for a quick rush down or just stick to transitioning to hado b/c you’d rather control the spacing.
On EX HB, I try to make it a habit to jump back and use. j. mk, to prevent him from landing on the other side as he will land on it and it also leads to pain train.
EX FB’s are good to do when you sense that he is desperate to get inside, if you happen to catch him in the air, palm his ass before he hits the ground. Other than that, I normally save my EX for Pain Train, AA EX Tatsu, and the threat of EX GF on wake up. Other than that, it’s lp hado and st. mp to make him jump or think twice about dashing in.
If you land any untech, you need to be all on his ass per oki., the only reason you should stay full screen and spam him is when you are trying to get a read on him or if you are zoning b/c you have the lead or you are trying to force him to jump in.
Maybe I always fight shitty hondas or something, but this match up isn’t that bad. imo.
also check out raun’s youtube page for his 1st to 10s for match up info, it always helped me out.

Mk dive kick (not GF one) beats a lot of Hondas anti/wake up options aswell. If he doesn’t do EX HB really late, you will hit him out of it. Butt slam also whiffs and then you can sweep and repeat.

There are moments where is imposible to tech a throw? for example:
1- Ryu jumps on me
2- I Kongo
3- Ryu doesn`t attack (empty jump)
4- He throws me when he lands
5- I input tech throw, nothing happens
My execution issue? or I just cannot tech the throw if I was perfoming the Kongo when I got throwed
The Kongo simply has recovery-time, so you probably weren’t free to tech the throw.

Ok, so I’ve read up on the AE changes as much as time allows, and also saw how Blanka’s ball will be nerfed on it’s recovery motion/distance. What I missed was the recovery TIME. Being that Gouken will be getting that awesome combo possibility with non sliding lp palm, will he be trading the possibility to punish Blanka ball on standing block? The lp palm obviously isn’t going to travel far enough, I don’t believe, so will m. palm be the new punish for this? Or will Blanka be able to rush down with reckless abandon and Gouken relying on psychic jabs to stop it?
I love ending a match crouch teching with mk and my knife foot stabs them in the jugular!
This. lp palm punish was the only thing I had to really make blankas play not retarded.
I was reading some where that nerf to blanka ball allowed you to punish with hado or cr. roundhouse. If that’s true, then I’ll take the cr. roundhouse punish over lp plam as a trade.
It’s 100 damage loss, but you gain a set up that can net your more damage due to his shitty wake up, plus we have to keep in mind that lp palm was changed along with receiving buffs in other areas.
Maybe I’m just a retard, but I think the new Gouken is able to compete. Most match ups are about either zoning them or knocking them down and mixing them up off of safe jump etc., and he has good footsies. IMO AE Gouken has waaaay better options than Super Gouken, especially off of the jump in.
I think it’s simple. Knock em down, and go on offense, Gouken’s not a pussy cat, treat them the same way the treat you, how do you feel when you are knocked down repeatedly?
Many of us play him and say that’s his biggest weakness, poor wake up. Well, news flash it’s every body else’s too.
