Gouken Match-ups and Character Specifics

cammy’s hooligan is a free backthrow with tight timing.
if you try to use c.hp or c.mk against it, she will cross you up and fuck you.
i just jab at it.
if you train yourself to react to hooligan with c.lp strings, she’ll stop doing it.
i’d rather she stop doing it than try to punish it.

Since she auto tracks with EX Hooligan, I just always crouch when I see it and i wait until she bumps Gouken per the auto-track then I usually use cr. roundhouse > oki. I wait for the bump to make sure I’m not too early and she doesn’t cross up.

You can also just allow her to auto track and walk under her a just a bit and you can Backthrow her > ?, but if she slides she gets away.

well, im not sure if you are hitting her with c.hk while she is still airborne, but that comes out in 6 frames.
backthrow comes out in 5 frames and if you time it properly, she can’t tech it.
you just crouch and then stand and backthrow the moment she lands.
so backthrow would give you a better punish no matter what at 1 frame faster - if c.hk is not benefiting from an extra couple of frames by being able to hit before she lands.
the backthrow punish is unprofitable on line, because you are risking the bookends of getting hooligan thrown on an early stand or cannon spiked on a late backthrow.
my initial reaction to a c.hk punish is that it is too slow and might get crossed up, but i don’t know that for sure.
i know for sure that (c.lp xx hk tatsu) is a high risk 4 frame punish that does twice as much damage as c.hk and will work every time with easy timing.
also, a c.lp string is an extremely low risk punish with easy timing that does the same damage as c.hk.

^ yeah the cr. Roundhouse hits her while she is still in the air after the bump. Her slide always beats my grab so I just untech her to eliminate the guess work lol and attack her wake up. Plus it puts her on her ass so I can either set up a zoning trap or rush her down per safe jump or walk up counter hit b.s.

When she does slide cr. Fp always have reset her (everytime I’ve tried), can you time cr. Lp > TATSU to hit her out of the hooligan slide?? That shit has never worked for me unless I’ve caught her whiffing hooligan grab. I hate it when she slides instead of whiffing grab and I only get a lp reset :frowning: It’s been a couple of times I’ve tried cr. lp > tatsu and it reset her only to let Gouken fly the fuck away and land right into a max punish so I stopped doing it.

Is it something that I’m doing wrong when she’s does the slide that gives me the reset instead of the grounded punish??

The last thing I want to do is let her just slide and I block it and she’s -1 with a reversal cannon spike on hand. That means no focus and no kongo for Gouken and EX flip get’s punished by cannon spike as well. Not a good situation for the old man.

you just time it as she lands.
the slide is too slow to stop anything timed for her landing if i recall.
i haven’t been in training mode with cammy in a while though, so i could be wrong about that.

^ I just tried like 10 times and it resets her as a counter hit. It works like a charm on the hooligan grab though.

Can someone else please confirm to make sure I’m not tripping.

Another good but more difficult punish for her is to walk under her ex hooligan and EX Palm > ? That way if she tries to slide away you can still punish her. I have to make a note of this. You can input your palm motion while you walk under and once she goes over your head press whatever punch(es) to auto correct and you have your self a palm bnb. This is not easy to do, but it’s not too hard either. That will give you 280 damage 350 Stun with Auto Correct EX Palm > mp palm, or you can get 250 Damage and 250 stun with the untech set up if you opt to end with Auto Correct EX Palm > Dash Forward > Cr. roundhouse > oki.

Whats a good way to keep fei long off you? I keep losing to a mediocre fei long, just because he keeps getting in. My GF and vortex attempts keep getting flame kicked.

his flame kick is pretty easy to use a df crossup on, but is useless if he uses wakeup chicken wing, unless there is a good option select for that.
you have to throw fireballs at him and punish his reversal rekka’s, ex chicken wings and jump ins to keep him out.
gouken’s fireballs are great against fei long.
once he gets in, it should probably be your first priority to get away, rather than to land some kind of damage.
jump away + tatsu or hk df over his head.

Kongo, EX Tatsu, and ultra can all beat CW on reaction.

Yes, Kongo works. Only the first hit of CW breaks armor.

@Raun Here is a vid. illustrating what I am getting at about using cr. roundhouse vs. Hooligan.

One interesting thing: after you block his f+mk, dash, forward grab is a really nice option, since he will have to commit to something, like TT, to counter it. Then if he TTs you just jump straight and take half of his health bar away.

Another interesting thing: a well timed demon flip throw is really hard to deal on his wake up.

It is, indeed, a footsies and baiting game. You knock him down, rush him!

Yeah, stand grab beats everything Abel can do after f.mk besides TT, ultra, and super.

I am having troubles vs feilong, there is good punish for blocked rekkas? sometimes I am able to hit him with a low roundhouse but others not and I get counter hit before that.

I also uso low medium punch into gohadoken but its a low damage, mostly to push him away.

You can’t punish 1st lp rekka on block, it’s only -4. Potentially you can cr.mk it but the only thing you could follow it up with is a tatsu probably.

Sweep is safe to do unless he does 2nd rekka or a reversal after blocking 1st rekka.

What about punishing 2nd Rekka or 3rd rekka any safe stun to do on him?

3rd rekka is totally free to punish - free ultra or cr.hp xx ex palm. 2nd rekka is -6 at best.

You can’t reliably punish 1st or 2nd lp rekka without a move that has invincibility and is fast enough to punish if he does not do another rekka. He can cancel into the next rekka to punish your punish. If you think he’s going to follow up do kongo. Otherwise just go for cr.mp xx hado or something to push him away.

Fei Long (SSFIV) - Shoryuken Wiki

If he fucks up a combo and does 1st hp rekka that’s a free EX Tatsu if you’re close enough.

Most Feis aren’t dumb enough to do second/third rekka outside a combo. The risk/reward for him is pretty terrible. It’s like Abel’s change of direction.

I am little frustrated now, I am getting beaten by the same stuff all the time.

I get knockdown once then I am in a world of pain trying to get up without getting beating to death, once they start the mix up with throws and fast pokes I feel helpless.

This is happening me against, ken, ryu and feilong mostly.

Don’t get knocked down.

OS tech throws. Block a lot.

I am OS the throws but I still getting throwed, I mean there is a way to tech them 100% of the time?

Oh I forgot to add gouken is fat or what, everything seems to work on him, but when I play with Guy I don`t have any of this issues.

I think gouken hitbox is bigger.

There are no 100% teching technique beside leaving yourself with no opening and have 100% accurate respond within 7 frames. Because if they catches you OS teching they can just delete their throw slightly, so if you do throw them they end up teching it, and if you are crouch teching they can throw you right after your normal activates but hit box is not activate yet.

Also, yes. Gouken have a slightly bigger hit box then normal character (Ken / Ryu etc)
