I think Gouken’s overall design is great the only thing I would add is an ultra that would be like Akuma’s raging demon but have it dealing with the power of nothingness. And have his air parry be stronger like other two when you first hit he parries it and smacks you right into the ground.:lovin:
c.MP that actually combos into hadouken is the only thing he needs. Speed up fireball startup a bit…he’ll be fine with just that.
Gouken’s design is fine otherwise. He doesn’t really need anything additional.

Gouken’s counter is heavily stopped with good timing on crossovers and plenty of empty jumps.
The armor break properties makes it terribly annoying to use. I think of the counter as his “real” shoryuken – it stops nearly everything with proper timing. I’d like to think/use the counter like many of the KOF/CvS2 ones (Rock, specifically).
Tatsu hitting crouched opponents and getting closer to near ground with it would also be helpful.
Ideally, he could have +8 on c.LP, more invincibility frames on palm and some freaking useful links!
I’ve found it unsatisfying how much recovery is on the flip parry. Giving him a little less would be more in the spirit of the move, I think.
EX palm should work like Giefs EX glove
If his counter had no armor break, it still can be stopped by anything that isn’t a hit, aka a throw or wait then hit. That is totally not over powered.
His Fireballs need a slightly larger hit box or get bigger. However I have a suspicion that it could be hit spheres or KDOPs.
Balrog is hard for a gouken to fight because his headbutt can cancel out your demon flip, and his armoured punch, that’s armour breaking, kills your kongoshins. Balrog is one of the worst matchups for gouken in SF4, it’s almost like when they were playtesting they thought that the 2 would never fight, for some reason.
gouken is pretty nasty as is. it just takes a little honing of the skills to really get past the unique character line up. Lets not change him

Gouken needs to be able to combo C.MP xx Hadoken.
A better option on wake up for an escape situation.
Overall he doesnt need much, hes a powerhouse!
Making the counter be an actual counter instead of having all those focus attack properties would be a welcome change, he’d no longer be Balrog’s sandbag. Nerf its active/recovery frames afterwards if necessary.
Give him something to do on the way down from tatsus or just make them recover faster. Not fast enough to be anywhere near safe, just so it doesn’t take forever to finish.
I’d ask for safer LP rush punch but the game’s already built around everything being unsafe…

He can c.mp into fireball, but it won’t be a combo due to fireball startup time.
Other than c.mp fireball to work, it would be nice if the 2-hit fireball can be charged faster. At least be comparable to Gouki’s red fireball.

Some better links, air parry actually works, two hit j.mp combos not the one hit version, tatsu hits crouching opponents, parry doesn’t lose to armor breaking moves.
That might be all thats needed.
I can’t help but feel that if we make parry immune to armor break, it makes that move a little TOO good. The parry as it is right now makes it so that you can use it, but at the same time still be mindful of which moves you use it against so that you don’t abuse it either.
One work-around I can think of, is to perhaps make the EX parry immune to armor break, or maybe make it so that reversal parries (Normal or EX) have anti armor break, kind of like how certain non-armor breaking specials for other characters get armor breaking properties when used as a reversals. As much as I want an awesome buff for Gouken, I can’t help but shake the feeling that making parry completely immune is just a little too powerful.

Balrog is perfectly able to get zoned and rushed down by gouken. Sounds like some of you people depend too much on spamming his counter.
This is true, its a real bad match up for Gouken.
