<div class=“QuoteText”>I know why it happened but doesn’t mean it’s garbage. Stop plinking because your move won’t come our right. Bull. That’s like ken Kara throwing standing right next to you and whiffing. </div>

Hahaha. Kiiinda the same thing but no lol. We need someone to hit us in order for it to activate. If he woulda hit you again he would have got blasted. I still dont like it though like you mentioned. Especially when Im on my last ex bar or something…I dont use 3punches, I use mp+lp to get ex…so I go to use ex kongo because Im in trouble and on my last bar, plink it on accident, get this shit and no explosion. Pisses me off something serious.
I’m so slow at this game…I keep forgetting to do so many things like AA and reversals to avoid chip KOs. I forget I can do EX Demon Flips on wake up to dodge shit, I forget to use st.mk and cr lk. Fuck me.
Time…I’ve played Gouken since 09 and still forget shit. If you are looking to be really good with your character in a short amount of time, Gouken is not the choice for you.
I kid. I’ll still keep using him. It feels so good when you hear the sound of cl. HP xx EX Palm > HP Palm… or AA fb > HP Palm. The smash sounds… smashing… rewarding!
Of course of course. I’ve made some improvements in my offense, but I’m still in that phase where I learn one thing and then forget another. I’m going to record my recent fights soon and I know i’ve made some good progress since last month’s video log.
Training mode is what helps me the most in getting the timing for using stuff, training hands and brains to react when a similar situation that you trained over and over appears when playing against real humans.
But it is nice to have someone with the same skill level as you to help you grow as a player.
Ah, I have to disagree here guys. Playing people on the same skill level is cool but if you wanna get better you need to play people better than you. Its simply a must. If you’re a 5k bp Gouken and you’re playing 5k bp players you are not bettering yourself. You’re gonna lose some, then you’re gonna win some and feel satisfaction at being “mediocre” because you won.
The trick is if you’re a 5k bp player, you dont wanna play a 17k bp caliber player because its pointless. You will just be getting the snot beat out of you and you dont have time to process what you are doing wrong because the rounds will go so fast. If you’re a at a level like this you need to be playing people that are around 10-11k. Learn to recognize your mistakes and take it from there. Thats why I recommend sparring against other Goukens.
Gouken is a very unique character and, like Climaxter and I have said in the past, he oddly has all of the defensive tools to shut down all of his offensive tools. No one in the cast has that. So you have to be extra on point when mirror’ing. Find someone 5k bp higher than you and do a ft50. Have him give you tips on what you’re doing wrong and have him mimic the same situations to see if you’re learning or not.
Sparring like that continuously for a month or two will MAKE you a 10-11k bp player. It makes you better whether you win or not because you are now able to deal with higher level offense and tactics. Dealing with the tactics you’re used to and playing people with the same reactions as you, the same AA’ing issues as you, the same zoning mistakes as you…it will get you no where. You need someone that will AA you every single time you jump to train you from jumping. You need someone with good spacing to get YOUR spacing better. You need people that do things better than you so you can see and learn. Couple this with your own personal training in training mode getting execution down, learning set ups, safe jumps, os’s, things of this nature and you will undoubtedly get better in a short amount of time. From there you rinse, wash and repeat, fighting people at an even higher level. Just my opinion.
I don’t know you guys’ skill level and I’m no goat Gouken like IAM but I will spar with any of you guys any time. Give you some tips on what you need to work on and maybe you guys do the same for me. If at any time any of you guys wanna spar just shoot me an invite.
SHIT… I actually think you are better player than me… We play A LOT a like… but your Gouken is always on BEAST MODE… I don’t play enough so I make silly mistakes whenever I do play… I’m no slouch, but you are definitely more consistent than I am.
I liked the way the old ranked mode was set up in Vanilla… you only fought people in a certain BP range until you could move to the next bracket… that way you wasn’t fighting at 10k BP and playing someone with 1k BP (grade points back then).
I totally agree about the old rank system. It was like a different set of clubs and you needed to be better in order to get into that club and play these people better. I was having this convo with someone just yesterday. In vanilla I played Akuma and was I think C ranked at the time. I would do a certain set of moves and just run over all over my opponents lol. I beat this Gief and made it to B and the first first person I fought was a another Gief. He DEMOLISHED me. I thought it was a fluke so I found him again…DEMOLISHED me.
That moment right there is where I said I wanted to be great at this game because I realized I wasnt as good as I thought I was. I was just a scrub beating on other scrubs. I think Capcom should go back to the brackets and you can only play people in your class until you level your game up and earn being in a higher class.
I honestly think you could be a top Gouken bro. Like top 10. You know whats up though, we all have work, kids and wifes/gf’s and shit so… . All of that comes before AE, even in my case. I just try and be the best man and its got me relatively far. When we play, we play almost exactly alike LOL, its so strange to see.
I need sparring partners! I totally agree with the whole “you’ll never get better unless you play better” way of learning. I love gouken. He’s probably my favorite sf character of all time. I’m still learning of course but he just brings my a game. I will first to fifty someone in here and if I get 50-0’d ill keep going.
GT: Fumetsu Gaisut0<-- zero not o
On that note when you guys do EX gushoha sometimes I get a six hit denjin if I time it right no FADC. Anyone else notice this?
For me I used to hunt for matches first seeing who was top ranked and see who I could meet in ranked based off who I memorized from that list.
I say if your given an opportunity to go heads up, keep trying till win and/or they boot you after the tide has shifted.
I gained alot of experience playing off that old school sf2 mindset, thinking everyone is a potential victim , playing MY game , no matter how many rematches or lunch money it takes, I’m gonna get that W one way or another.
If it’s PSN, you can just add my much-easier-to-remember-and-spell name. I’ll keep an eye out.
And no, as far as I know, you cannot get a 6 hit denjin…5 hit yes, 6 hit no. The charge difference between 5 and 6 hit Denjin is too large…20 frames I believe. Perhaps you are miscounting your total hits including the hits before Denjin (EX Senku is 2 hits…) or this is very character specific and spacing specific like only in the corner vs. Sim or something.
Fuck Fei long!!! Played for 3 hours with my cousin, we both use pad, I only have one so I let him use it and I used stick. Went ahead and lost 30 something matches against his fei, and then another 15 against his evil ryu.
What I really hate is he can always get away with FADCing his DPs… I don’t know why I can’t do shit.
Well my friend, there might be something wrong here or you have bad habits (don’t get mad at me I have tons too) or you are afraid of the character but there’s a big problem and you need to tell why he beat the shit out of you!!!
