It’s still a matchup you have to learn, whether you like them or not.
Oh, I totally agree and I was half joking anyway. I don’t mind the Gouken mirror *that *much. It’s certainly not as goofy as some mirrors. But it is a little goofy.
True. El Fuerte mirror ftw.
Or Blanka mirrors. I think the official consensus for those was “Dumbest shit ever”.
Come to think of it, i can’t think of a single mirrormatch that isn’t incredibly boring or stupid outside of Abel. Abel mirrors are really savage.
Chun-li Mirrors are really fun, I find Abel Mirror a bit tedious sometimes, the most annoying Mirror Match I have seen/fought are Cammy’s, argh… Do move -> Block -> Cannon Spike! or Jump -> Spike!!, its worse than a Ken mirror match, is all about Spike Countering.
Hence me preaching from the ‘mirror match filter’ (if not complete removal) option pulpit for so long.
One simple way to gauge the ‘seriousness’ of a fighting game is to see if it has, or rather DOESN’T HAVE, a mirror match option.
NB: NOT holding breath.
You have now entered into the… The Twilight Zone ! :looney:
ive said this a bunch of times in various threads, but ima say it again, im sooooo tired of tatsu/parry overlap and the “easy” inputs for dp motions. Yesterday i was playing this guy and i was holding back to block, then went for a sweep, starting to incorperate it more into my game cause its so damn good, and so i hit down/back instead of just down and i got low counter instead which lead to a NASTY punish. I love this game, but i wish it wasnt so noob friendly and all about who can spam their jabs for a combo. with the damn easy i cant be blocking while standing then hit down back and start to jab cuase i get counter. Shits irritating.
dumbest thing about gouken mirror match: stopping a mp fireball to with a…mp fireball.
Newest frustration: guessing correctly at the timing to pass through a fireball with EX Palm, getting the first hit, then whiffing the second. The first hit should have a small vacuum effect that pulls the opponent into the second hit every time.
It’s the same kind of thing with Ken and Akuma, where their srks hit once, then they go flying offing into space, with you just standing there, ready to punish them for HITTING YOU
Yeah I had to stop doing that partway through G2 because its just too annoying, especially with sagat and ryu matches, they comeback quick so you gotta make every hit count. There’s better ways to win their little fireball match that don’t end with you getting raped (its mostly just good baiting tactics.)
Oh yeah my frustration, dealing with crossup shennanigans when you’re too big to dash out quickly. Normally I’d just Kongo/Tatsu on wakeup but that only works on average-intermediate players. The smarter ones know your wakeup game so you’re stuck blocking/dashing and trying not to get thrown. Which tends to happen regardless.
Uh, wrong! You can’t always spam jabs!
Sometimes you gotta spam DPs too, ya know!
Duh! :looney:
Or Spam bullshit loops like Bison’s cr. lp, cr. lp, cr. lk, cr. lk > lk scissor (rinse and repeat)
I pray to god one day Cacom gets the shit right. There should be 0 situations where you have a special move that gives you a frame advantage on block, any safe on block special move should be alteast -2… why should you be at a disadvantage for blocking a special??? Bison’s lk is 0, and C Vipers BK’s are up to +8.
In Bison’s case you block the lk scissor and he still can herp derp a cr. lk and beat any of normals out. WTF? All you can do is Kongo (pray he doesn’t wait), EX demon (hope you don’t get hit out of it), FA (hope doesn’t scissor or EX Stomps), back dash (hope he doesn’t scissor), or just keep blocking to eat another loop. either way if you guess wrong it’s your ass … WTF were they thinking with this shit???.. Get rid of the bullshit loops, fix the frame data on these special moves. Why can’t the 3 frame jab be standard (exception Balrog)??? I can’t tell you how many matches I’ve lost just because someone is herp derping lp, lk the whole entire match!!! And to mention some of that shit is +2 - +3 on block WTF!!!
How in the fuck can Akuma have instant recovery after his DF palm, but Gouken’s parry makes him free lunch when he lands??? It would be more useful if we could parry > recover and block… it would actually make the move useful. Right now you can parry > grey damage and eat whatever when you land… this is bull shit!!!
And the command grabbers… WTF!!! Back dash or Netural jmp or you are screwed!!! Why can’t they be teched much like a regular throw, but you lose some health due to Gray damage for doing so?
Capcom- FIX THIS SHIT!!! Stop the spamming and promote actual gameplay!!
i remember someone mentioning this before (whether in this thread or another, don’t remember), but what the heck is with Gief doing his ultra in middle of Gouken’s BnB combo!!! in a match yesterday, i performed gouken’s neutral j.fp (connected) > cr.fp (connected) > ex-palm…oops, Gief ultra’ed me before the ex-palm connected. what!!!
you were probably not fast enought with your cancel to ex-palm or were pushed too far away, maybed your nj. FP hit a little further away than you thought?. Regardless, it was prolly online and since since its not too risky to mash ultra during a combo vs gouken, risk reward is 100% in giefs favor, all you can do is just pay attention to how far away from the opponent you are and do the appropriate strength move. Sucks dont it? now if palm had a faster start up or something???
i’m certain the spacing was fine. when i neutral jumped, he did a green hand so he was right in my face. no doubt the spacing was close enough, at least compared to when i do the same thing against other opponents. but if somehow the spacing issue is different with gief, then i would say all it means is just another reason why the gief vs gouken matchup is WAY too much in gief’s favor. but yes it was online, don’t know if somehow lag is a factor?? who knows…either way, yes it sucked!
LOL… Nah it’s some bullshit in the game. If you don’t space that thing out perfectly he can Grab you right outta your combo. He can even do that shit on moves that are supposed to be safe on block. It’s a bunch of crazy shit in the game that just makes you wanna just give up sometimes.
But this shit keeps calling me back!!! I go to sleep sometimes thinking of how I lost, or what I need to improve on to be better. The best advice I got regarding Gief is, when he has his Ultra either, FP > EX Tatsu or FP > lp palm… he shouldn’t be able to grab you outta those.
Just had a rather infuriating thing happen last night.
I go against a standard Fuerte (you know the type: run around like a loon and start the mixup BS on knockdown). I finally manage to wrest control of the round, and while I’m going to cross him after forward throw (dash-> HK DF), he does Ultra.
I think ‘sweet. He’s gonna try to get out, and I’ll LP Palm him for the win’. Wrong. Fucker catches me from BEHIND him, and proceeds to El Fuerte! Flyiiiing Giga Boostaar!! me to take the round.
I just sat there… What the fuck was that bullshit?!
Ended up winning it, even though the matchup is seriously in the Mexican’s favor, and then fired off this message:
There are some things that just shouldn’t happen in this game. El Fuerte being able to land Ultra from BEHIND him is one of those.
Even the Fuerte player admitted it’s kinda BS. But seriously. I wouldn’t care if it let him get out of the crossup, or punished a laggy move or jumpin. That’s its purpose. But the pure garbage that I experienced? Fuck no.
My other major frustration comes from the Ranked system. I’m seriously considering booting people if I know their BP is low, because I’m sick of having to maintain a 99.95% win rate to keep that score climbing. Get some random online Ryu who manages to herpderp a win? Lose 130 points. Play him again and absolutely crush him like the tin can he is? Gain 20. It’s worse than a zero-sum game, because he risks nothing in challenging me.
I figure if they really want to encourage both the lesser-skilled players to aim high, and for those better players to ACCEPT, cap the fucking losses. I mean, give the newb the full credit for the win, if he manages to random out the elite… but don’t punish the better player for the anomaly for the full amount either. 50% of the newb’s gain is plenty.
If EL. F has an Ultra you have to try and cross him with DF, for some reason j. mk will result in Gouken eating an Ultra. You also have to do a late DF kick to make sure that his Ultra misses, much like the delayed meaty for srk’s (sucks right)… the good thing is after a couple of stuffs or whiffs, you will condition your opponent to block and you can start landing DF grab.
Take ranked mode with a grain of salt, use ranked mode to try to iron out tactics and execution within a match, and play championship mode to win. I do agree it’s rather frustrating to win and get 1 point, but if you lose it’s -130… or you lose to some Blanka who just spams electricity since Goukens FB doesn’t work against it.
Hopefully most of the glitches will be fixed in Super, for now we just have to manage around them no matter how frustrating it is. I’ve never seen so many character specific combos etc. in regards to playing with one character in my life.
lol, I ditched ranked mode when I picked up on the disproportionality of the scoring. Championship mode is better … but mostly 1 or 2-bar connections against people in Europe on GFWL.
For the Elf match, if he gets vortex happy, a reliable move is jump-forward or jump-back mp to knock him down and get the hell out of there.
Bingo. Have two names now in the vast wasteland that is G1, and really don’t want to have to start up a third just to play Championship mode again.
Ah. Good info to know. Dealing with that crossup splash/tortilla/slide BS is a pain. Finding anything to help get outta that is a help.
