Gouken Frustration Thread, Go ahead let it out!

Pick Akuma and do standing hard kick… This fucking game.

Lol, I already said that Gouken is weak to focus basically right outside his cr mp space. The only real solution is to play a lot smarter when your opponent is occupying that space. Don’t forget that cr mp fb is also susceptible. You really just have to stick with quick normals and not pressing too many buttons to get the read on your opponent.

I’m gonna put this here just in case the other characters are searching our forum in their respective threads looking for tips…plus it makes me a little frustrated. So on the setup: f.throw, dash, hk gf delayed kick (deep dive kick on shotos), apparently this loses to ex tatsu by Ryu/E. Ryu/Akuma. Its gotta be the invincibility that just sucks us into the tatsu. I figured this out a while ago while playing a good buddy of mine offline but never had someone online use it before. Was playing this scrub Ryu last night and he did it on accident, found that it worked, used it a few more times after that and it loses every single time. (Sigh) Consequently, throw loses for obvious reasons and parry will break because its a reversal. Not being able to do deep dive kick setups takes away a very valuable tool for us and I hope word doesnt get out

Relying on word not getting out is not good. I’d even say word should get out, the less advantages we have in the eyes of capcom the more likely they’ll be like " oh, guess he not have those advantages we thought, maybe we should buff him. Crossing your fingers and hoping no one goes into training is very weak strategy.

Come on man, why do you always sound condescending when talking to people here? I’m not strategizing against it. I knew about it because I obviously play this character but I dont think many E. Ryu’s or Ryu’s know about it because for one, its an unlikely deterrent in a situation like that and two because I dont EVER see anyone use it so obviously not many of them are in the know. Like I said above, the Ryu I played clearly did it on accident and found out that it works. We cant truely safe jump shotos so for us not to have this deep dive kick option hurts and hurts alot. Just imagine getting online and every single Ryu/E.Ryu knew how to stop it? We would either have to bait with a late gf parry which can get eaten alive by any smart player or approach on the ground and get dp’d every freaking second of the match. There would be no more wakeup guessing and we would have a very tough time. I only posted just in case the guys in here havent come across it. You need to stop talking down to people. If you dont have anything normal or nice to say then dont say anything.

Because of text. I am a jovial fellow and while I will say some things seriously virtually everything I say say should be read with a smile. That line above is definitely less smiley, but is simply how I feel about the need/urge to hide flaws/secret strategies. I get why in relation to a tourney coming up, but in general spreading the info around is beneficial to advancing the character and total options. I would love if every online Ryu would start doing it as it would then seem they weren’t as braindead as they usually are.

I like gouken as a character but in terms of when I first heard him being in sf4, i was expecting him to be more… good. Like he isn’t terrible or anything but I wanted more for a character thats been like the other half of akuma and teacher of ryu and ken.

Well Shin Gouken is that, but he isn’t playable sadly. He is proof that capcom knows just fine how to make him broken, they are just trying to avoid it^^

LOL… it’s bull shit, that’s why I never do the dash method if they have EX.

Don’t dash up, instead walk up a training block or so and then aim a little past the center and you should be ok. This should put you more towards their prime meridan where you want dive kick to hit anyway as their button press will depend on the result.

Helped alot actually. I will def use it on Chun. I normally mix in the safe and deep dive kicks but the deep gets hit by EX Bird. If Im not mistaken her hurtbox is in the center, and shes upside down so right in the *&^% hahaha. So I wonder if this works for ex tatsu on Ryu? I know he can be jabbed out of it but can he be hit from the top/center like Chun? I’m gonna go out on a limb and say no but I dont think I’ve been in a situation where I’ve dive kicked an ex tatsu. And thats why this is weird because its not something you would go to when you see a dive kick coming…logic just tells you that it doesnt work. But I wonder…what do you think IAM?

It will either cross Ryu up and punish or you land safely on the other side :slight_smile:

Kinda get what you’re saying but I would have to disagree based off the fact that its such a essential tool in the matchup. Throw, dash, deep dive kick…dp will get stuffed for a full combo, whiff for a full combo, they block - the kick crossup up for a full combo or the kick doesnt crossup and they’re under pressure. There’s so many things that go into that one simple setup. If we cant do that anymore these matchups will be wayyy more difficult, not just a little. They’re blessed with a DP, we’re not, and if we cant exploit that anymore its going to be kinda hard. I mean, its not the end all be all…I’m just saying

No no, I know for DP but I’m referring to if they EX Tatsu. Dive kick loses to it but if they’re hurtbox is like Chun’s is then if we hit them dead center it may reset them. I was wondering if you’ve tried this setup on the tatsu. If you havent I will def test when I get home to try and figure out where they’re vulnerable. They dont have complete body invincibility because they can get jabbed out of the startup. Hopefully they have some vulnerable areas above as well.

Just remember, you have to hit Ryu/Akuma/Oni in the head or you’ll eat the tatsu if you do it too late… you can always do it a tad early to make them whiff srk and land a block tatsu… your dive kick won’t hit in this scenario.

The easiest way to perfect it is, is to record Gouken doing cr. roundhouse > GF Dive kick… you’ll need to check for two things, 1 - to see if it hits him out of srk and 2- if it avoids EX Tatsu… it’s actually tight as hell, but you can get it.

The set up is the same off of all the hard knock downs aside GF Throw, you just need to make sure you take the right angle.

My timing on this is actually pretty shitty, since I only look for srk… I will hit up T-mode to ight and give you the specifics it’s definitely doable… but I KNOW if you do it late and you cross up… Gouken eat’s tatsu. Aim for the center (the head) where he’s hittable.

IDK they have oni in game and hes not the best character ether, base line akuma in SF4 series was always good.
