Have to say as I play harder and harder opponents, I’m starting to really hate Gouken’s weaknesses. As much as I love his strengths, it really makes me regret the thousand plus hours I’ve invested in this character. I consider my self scary good when playing any normal person. Like the folks I hang with who play fighters just shake their head at what I’m able to do, and can’t take a round on me. And these are people who know how FA through fireballs, kara throw, have good zoning etc. Yet I’m hitting a wall when it comes to these people in the top 1000 rank. The matches that are killing me are Sakura, Balrog, Cammy, Yun, and Ken. Just venting… as usual.
Damn, I didn’t even read Dek’s comment from earlier today. Our stories are practically identical, and I decided to quit for a while today as well. Sigh… must be the cosmic down time for us Gouken spirits.
MAN. SEEMS LIKE SOME OF US, INCLUDING MYSELF ARE GONNA BE STEPPING AWAY FOR A WHILE
Meh… everytime I tried to quit Gouken I came back.
Akuma… shit was all good until I saw that everyone had a way that they can stuff srk and punish him for teleporting…
Oni… This MF can’t FADC his DP… on top of that his focus and back dash is BALLZ … but boy can he combo…
Ibuki… I realized the long list of combos I’d had to learn and was like fuck that, I rather just kongo that bitch
Ken… No comment, that’s my dude I just like Gouken better.
When the teacher showed me what she did and put the sound effect with it “haaaaa”. I was like oh shit. It took everything inside of me not to laugh.
Man I read that comment today and i laughed just as hard as I did yesterday lol. You said regular and not EX and I lost it… all I picture is a little girl doing an EX palm. I feel you though, I have a 4 year old myself. When he’s over my place its cool though because I bought two tv’s lol. I have a 46’ and a 24’ Asus lag free monitor that I use for SF. He’s watching Diego or Transformers or something and I’m playing AE. But my son is into it too though. Whenever I win he immediately stops watching tv, gets up and does the Gouken winning pose with Gouken on the screen. The one where he put his hands in front of him and then grabs his chin? LOL. Its freaking hilarious. So we’ll just have your daughter palm some bullying kid and then have my son jump out and do the victory pose hahaha
I dont want to though lol. I’ve been through this like 4 times already. Not being frustrated with Gouken or anything but after a while it seems like my execution starts sucking, I start making bad decisions and a slew of other things. I find that if I take about two weeks off Im revitalized. But its bullshit though because its supposed to be the opposite. Why would you start sucking the MORE you play. Thats ridiculous to me but it seems to be the way it is. I think I’ll take a break from ranked and just find some strong people to play against in endless for a few weeks or something. I really need some experience vs Yun man. That character is my demon. I lose to 2000bp Yuns on the regular. Everything that dude does if safe and I dont know how to stop it lol.
And you need to quit saying everyone is better than you lol. You’re starting to be a little TOO modest. You know you’re Gouken is the shit, go on…say it
Well it sounds like you just need more practice homie, vs better people though. It makes no sense beating up on people you’re better than and Im finding that out myself like I said in one of my previous posts. Once you surpass them, and you play them all the time, you dont gain anything anymore.
I just found out recently how tough Sakura is to deal with as you know. I have never had a problem with her until Solid. I found out that cr.tech/cr.mk works wonders. Balrog, Ive been testing some things lately and f.st.hp shuts his whole world down. Beats turn punches, straights and everything pretty much minus ex. Do deep dive kicks on his wakeup and OS Denjin because he’s going to ex dash straight or ex head butt to get out of wakeup pressure. Also cr.lk, hk.tatsu beats all of his punches so just buffer your ass off. Ken is easy, just another shoto…deep dive kick to stuff or make DP whiff and the match is over. Cammy, cr.mk/tech works wonders as well here and one other tidbit…either stay really close to her or fullscreen. Never be in that st.mk range because she gonna spiral arrow to get in and probably ex to go through the hados. She can space it, be in and completely safe afterwards like we can with our palm. So either be real close where you can f.st.hk/f.st.hp her or be full screen zoning. Im sorry but Yun fucks me up man lol, hopefully one of the other guys can help.
My oldest likes Blanka or the “Monster” as she calls him, and my other likes Chun Li. I put the TE’s on Turbo and watch them go at it in training mode. Now they both now how to taunt… so all I ever see if Blanka going “Come ON!!!”… Then the wife starts bitching about them playing SF Downstairs or on my iPhone… I just give up b/c I don’t want it to ruin me being able to SPD later. LMAO
As long as I know in advance, I can usually set up a time to play… Always After 9p for the most part. I told myself, I’m never going to miss bedtime for my kids until they think it’s not cool anymore.
You are local to me… so I think it would be cool to get together for some offline… depends on where you are playing. I’m always out in Northern VA during they day time during the week. In fact I’ll be out there Friday even though that’s a bad time.
This weekend is looking very promising… and if I have it my way I’m taking next Wed-Fri off from work, so I’ll be available then. Other than that, you’d have to give me a heads up so I can work it out in my schedule.
When I made the Shin Sho Dojo Thread, there is a spot on the first page for anyone to broadcast when they were hosting a room so everyone could collectively plan around it… but it was never utilized as intended.
I have a lot of success vs. Yun using Focus to catch his dive kicks… downside is he can do that lunge and fuck you up pretty good. So it’s best to alternate focus’ and jumping back to punish that lunge punch/shoulder. The non ex ones shouldn’t go through hado’s but you have to be sure not to back your self in the corner.
Dive kick safe jump is really strict on Yun and Guy alike… if you are going to practice it… I’d say do it against one of these 2. You can give yourself some extra time using j. mk… still can’t hit both sides you just don’t get the GF options… but he must block it standing so if you early jump you can get some cr. lk > lp palm action and still counter hit crouch tech.
Yun’s up kicks almost always land on the other side if you block or he whiffs…
cr. mk - beats his dive kicks,… there are the times where he does it late and catches your recovery… so be careful with that. I’ve never tried against Yun/Yang but I know against Rufus I spam st. lp when he is dive kicking and it hit’s him out of it almost every time if it’s not meaty. I’ll check the twins to day and update…
Other than that, I usually struggle with Yun players, not because they are better than me, but b/c he just has some retarded set ups… such as EX lunge… I block it he’s at advantage, I kongo… he break its… and sometimes you jump back or neutral jump…he still ends up behind you to punish you… when that happens I just chalk it up to the game…
Offensively… Yun has everything… an invincible reversal, a move that goes through fireballs, a bunch of safe shit… and on top of that, he can neutral jump and still manage to dive kick his way into your damn face… CAPCOM PLEASE take that out the game… no one should be able to dive kick from neutral jump That’s just retarded.
Hahaha my son does the same thing man. When I’m playing online I let him pick the stage. But before that he’s always like “Daddy pick the slippery guy (Hakan)” or “Pick the green monster”. Im always like I cant pick those people man. But I let him choose the stage and he always takes the full 10 seconds to choose. And for some reason he likes the volcano stage lol. Im always like come on, pick something else.
Yeah Im in NOVA in Chantilly. We do a weekly thing in Gainesville if you’re ever out in this area Wed 7-12. Gamma is in Alexandria and he comes out on the regular now. Then a few of my buddies get together on the weekends as well for a few hours…order some pizza and just spar. But didnt you tell me you lived in Richmond? Or was it Baltimore? This chick Im seeing lives in Baltimore so I’ve been out there alot recently.
Other than that man, I try to play online as much as I can. I’m ranked 17 on PSN and I have really really been working to be that on XBL. I want to try and get my rank as high as possible and then hit some tourneys to see how I do. I think Im 29 on XBL at the moment but after that set with Solid idk lol. Everytime I get on it seems like you’re off though. But I play into the wee hours in the morning for the most part. I live with roomates and share an internet connection so I try to get on as late as possible so theres no lag. That set I had with Solid was at like 4 in the morning. Anytime from 8 and on though Im usually on. It would be cool if everyone could line up though. I dont think Ive been in a room with more than 2 of you guys at a time. But yeah man, just let me know some time you’ll be on, what day and we can get some games in.
I’m in Bowie, MD so you pretty much pass me by when you go to B’More. I live right off of Route 3 which leads to 97 (Baltimore) and the BW Parkway is about 12 minutes down the street if you opt to go that way.
Some one was telling me about a spot in B’More that has AE fight night… which I think would be pretty cool.
I stopped worrying about ranked along time ago… I do think I could get pretty high up on XBL but I just don’t have the time to do it.
I think I got 7500 on my IAMTHATIAM777 Account… Almost 11k on THE BLACK MASSA… and probably another 5500 or so on my bro’s account, bullshitting with Gouken… so I really have no friggin clue where I should be in relation to where I am.
Add that, to the fact that I’ve seen many times I’d totally destroy or be right on par high level opponents, then turn right around and lose to someone doing the most basic/random shit. Mainly, most of it is due to me not dedicating enough time to train daily and to play daily… but still… when I’m good I’m good… and when I’m not… it shows. I can always tell where I’m at, b/c I go for backthrow alot when I’m not to sure of myself. The other times that I am, I’d go for counter hit or do a bunch of frame traps and my AA is on point.
Haha yeah, Ive shared my thoughts in this very thread about winning against formidable opponents and losing to scrubs. But then I look at all of these players with 4500-5000 pp and I say to myself that they are doing it somehow. I used to get mad but now whenever I play against someone with really low bp/pp I treat them like I’m playing a pro. Its overkill sometimes but they are the ones that can hurt you more point wise so I go in lol.
Yeah man, like you said Bowie is actually closer. Thats pretty cool. I think I remember reading SUN saying that he was moving to VA and thought that was great. Then he said VA Beach. Thats like 3 hours from NOVA lol.
people bulldog the mess out of me with focus attacks and i cant seem to come up with an answer for it. any ideas?
Guess palms. Sadly.
Lol at guess palms… That shit is sad, FUCK WHOEVER made Gouken’s palm then gave Adon and Rose safe armor breakers.
I sometimes get away with doing cr lk then throwing st lk or Jabs afterwards at max range, you can sometimes hit them out of it but its not fool proof. Up close I spam jabs or cancel to lp palm which is probably the best option.
Or just run while keeping them at max range for cr mp/lk hado and listen to them bitch about having to chase you.
Now that I think about it can’t we use cr lk/mp and cancel to G Flip to avoid the focus and punish??
AMEN
(Just nudging that rose isn’t safe, but with spacing she can go way lower than that -3 which is the best we can get )
Cause they can potentially dash forward or back and punish you for it. Still not fool proof
If you play Denjin then Denjin. Lately I’ve been ex tatsuing on reaction…you know it has the crazy range. If they’re focusing threatening to let go and crumple they’re def in ex tatsu range.
i have the same problem.
c.lk xx lk.df is a big threat when people are going for it a lot, but i think focus in response with the option to counter release or backdash is probably best.
Random (or on reaction if you have it like that) dash in grab, backdash sweep, cr.lk xx lp.palm can make them change their meta
EX tatsu works well like dek said but don’t miss because you die
Denjin is great
Shin Sho can be backdashed
Flip grab a few times and they’ll start trying to AA instead of focus
