Gouken Frustration Thread, Go ahead let it out!

Yea, I think I must’ve forgotten how to zone lately or something. I’ll still be down for gouken match requests, just default on fei though. I probably wouldn’t be as bad if I had local offline competition. It’s incredibly frustrating to know exactly what the opponent is going to do and not being able to do anything about it. It’d probably also help if I knew how to put work in the lab.

Well lets hope you can pick up skills that Fei excels at and can transfer them over to Gouken in the future.

I know playing Gouken has made me excel at blocking and patience, but I think my meaty’s are lacking (Except safejump divekicks) aswell as hit confirm from jabs.
No one pokes like Fei!

Haha, totally forgot about this. Im back to ok on Gouken now. However Im using a lot of the cast on ranked and endless. Thanks for the support!

Back to a rant. Characters that regularly use DP FADC DP, ie Adon + Cammy are completely retarded tactics.

Playing like shit lately and it’s getting to me…dropping combos and getting mixed inputs like mad…my internet connection has been shitty lately too which makes it all that much worse. I’m losing to stupid things that I used to just roll with and I’m getting heated in the process. I’ve been trying to work on my reactions and switching styles a bit so that also has something to do with it. Just bah. It’s embarrassing losing to people I know I shouldn’t be losing to.

Same here. Today iI dropped down a couple hundred PP to bullshit

Im sick of beating people ranked <50 and then facing someone with 900 pp, losing to their scrubby tactics and losing 128pp in the process (which seems to be the cap). Its so frustrating. I’ll beat like 7 people in a row, gain maybe 80 pp and then lose to a scrub and lose 120pp…and to BULLSHIT. Its like I’m getting punished for my opponent not being good/decent. You just cant beat someone who does random things. Theres nothing to look out for, nothing to gauge, no tactics or patterns to catch onto. They just suck and do totally random stuff while catching you following the “Good SF4 Player RuleBook”. I understand this isnt a Gouken frustration but shit man, if I dont vent somewhere I’m gonna have to keep buying controllers.

There needs to be a patch to where you can set the skill level on ranked lobby creates like you can with quick matching and custom matching. You just never know what kind of player you’re gonna get and I ALWAYS get the scrubby ones that just out-dumb me and steal all of my freaking points.

LOL at out-dumb me! I hear this loud and clear. I fight better against good players who understand what the fuck they are trying to do.

when i feel like this it’s usually because of two things; i’m not anti-airing and i’m letting them hit me with wake-up ultra.
with any character, to beat a low-level player, you need to aa and bait.
of course sometimes you get the stupid hands and can’t tech or aa at all and then it’s not your fault.
then you just need to yell at your wife.

Im still ranked top ten in super lol but after my kid was old enough to crawl I would go on like 2-8 runs chasing the lil fucker so my \ae went way the fuck down …usually cause of distraction but i am very familiar with this …btw add me mannwarr77 is my temp

Its just frustrating losing to people you/they know are not as good. And it always seem like the scrubbiest players have the worst connections. So on top of them sucking, you have to deal with hella lag and its just an impossible fight. And then they send me a massage afterwards like, “#___ Gouken, yeah right”. I just want to punch faces after that.

Get over that. Congrats they win by playing badly, the worst thing you can do is let that mentally effect you as you let them drag you down into their own assness. Sure they have a distinct feeling they whooped your ass, but so what, who cares what they think?

I know it’s frustrating to deal with it, but getting yourself to calmer waters is very important(Ive gone through 2 TE’s before I got a handle on it and I’m still working through it, though I no longer care about the opponents I still can get annoyed by connections hampering me).

In the end points are meaningless, everyone online is probably awful and all you can do is focus on trying to beat silliness and honing your reflexes. Even then stuff will go wrong but hey, it’s online, it has always been nonsense. Get to a tourney and experience the game as it should be^^

In cases where it gets too much, switch the console off, grab a drink sit back and play something relaxing. Later on hop into training mode to remind yourself that you can hit those combos(if you cant, stay in training mode for serious) and remember, online is ass.

i’ve yet to experience offline and tourney…experience. most people i’ve played online say i should hit up a tourney. when i finally decided to go to china town fair, they have closed down. in about a month i’m gonna be moving back to virginia, i’m sure there isn’t much of a scene there…well virginia beach, where i’ll be moving back to.

Ican still recco trying to find some form of offline scene. The first pleasant surprise I always have is, Hey, Blocking actually stops attacks now :3

my biggest issue is being used to playing well on all platforms as many agree there are variations in timing etc which for Goukens just like yellow bars and very safe characters online , 1-3 frames will leave us out to dry if alot of goukens shit is not setup properly in regards to timing ie safe jumps etc

I quit this game this weekend. xWax Solid and I had a long 40+ ranked set the other night. He used Ryu once and switched to Sakura. Now I dont know if it was just me but I had no clue that Sakura tatsu loops were armor breaking. I kongo’d a few times…broken, focused a few times…broken but I thought it was because they were counterhitting. After I realized this it was like I was a training dummy. I finally figured out that cr.tech/cr.mk alleviates the pressure thats meaty but any smart player will get around that as he did. Outside of the tatsu loops he dominated me in every single aspect of the game. Out of 40+ matches I MAY have won maybe 7 rounds. Lost over 1000bp and 800pp. But it wasnt the points that got to me. It was the fact that I thought I was good lol. I have never been dominated like that in my life. We had a few conversations while we were playing and after and he spelled some things out for me…what I shoulda done there, how to get out of this there but man, I gotta say that that set was a downer.

Then the next day I play some more ranked and just lose terribly to scrubs back to back to back to back. I must’ve lost 12 straight. I think my internet connection was lagging though, plus I’m starting to believe theres some input delay in between the Crossfire I use for my PS3 pad on 360. I can see things clear as day, do something to counter and nothing was working. Just being so frustrated from input delay and that set with Solid, I just said fuck it man. In this very moment Im feeling like I want to continue but idk. If this input delay is real and theres lag issues its just an impossible thing playing online. I play on Wed offline and get together with buddies on the weekend but its just the same people. I’ve surpassed them now and its getting repetitive. I feel like Im at a crossroad. I know it sounds like Im being dramatic and shit but I love this game to death and even the thought of me giving it up is fucking me all up lol

Take some time off… come back stronger.

HP Kongo’s beats a lot of Sakura’s jump ins. Her loop is deadly especially in the corner.

I just block it, since she usually can’t grab right after if she’s tried to hit confirm too much. You can find her pattern and Kongo/EX Kongo to get some breathing room.

IIRC she’s free to frame trap on wake with lp palm is she doesn’t have meter. I wish we could loop with lp palm like that. LOL

Yeah, maybe you’re right. It wasnt even the tatsu loops though. Even when we were mid screen he still dominated me. Footsies, spacing, reads, everything man. And when we played there was no lag, I didnt feel any input delay, no excuses…he just flat out whooped my ass for like 2 hours.

So after all of that and the other thing I mentioned, I get to work today, check my Youtube feed and Spooky has some NEC XIII matches up (which I couldnt even make it to btw). I see this match with this Gouken Capcoms Hero and MMS Native. Gouken ended up losing but he played a really really solid match and it went down to the wire. No offense to CH (especially if you’re reading sir) but I thrash Native on the regular. Same with Yeb (even though Pikachu seems to upload the 1 out of 20 matches I lose in all of his updates) and the rest of these online guys that are ranked really high. Idk man, I think I do need to just take sometime off like you said. Or maybe just practice for a while.

Or maybe just try and get more endless in with you guys. I love playing you guys and Gouken in general because he’s one of those characters that can do things that the rest of the cast cant do. You have to be careful attacking because of kongo (I could go on forever). But just little things like that make you better because you have to think an extra move ahead, be tight with your links and strings. Its just the ultimate practice for me. I played Takin a few days ago and I felt like we were both just in the Danger Room getting crazy practice in. Same with all of you guys, Panda, Shiine, Chaotic, Delf, SUN, Velociraptor…IAM we have yet to line up though lol. I love sparring with you guys because everyone plays Gouken different and I constantly learn.

Ok, Im not frustrated anymore

I had a similar meltdown a while back and came here writing a wall of text as well. I stopped playing for what felt like a year (it was maybe a little more than two weeks) and when I picked it up again, I was rusty…but shaking the rust off allowed me to redesign my approach to things and solidify my links. I feel pretty strong now, but I still run into issues with rushdown safe ass characters like the Sakura you were playing and bullshit online lag that makes the “to tech or not to tech” question pretty damn frustrating. I also have a list of players who just always beat me while I have a list of even stronger players who I give one hell of a run and am in the lead against match-wise. Look…you are a better player than me; more creative, less predictable, better reactions, better footsies…you should definitely be okay with some time off.

Yeah we def have to get it in, I’m hit or miss man. I play, then I get ghost… I have a 5 year old and a 3 year old and my wife hates it when they see me play. Lol. My daughter even tried to palm someone At school. Lmao I’m glad she did lp palm and not ex.

LMAO. Got damn man, that is the funniest thing I’ve heard all year…and we’re in December
