Gouken Frustration Thread, Go ahead let it out!

Yeah a horizontal dragon punch without the dragon.

Palm is actually a good move, I just wish that EX Palm was strike/projectile invincible starting on frame 1 and not throwable until frame 3. Then again that might be a little too strong for waking up with 1 EX Bar.

lol’d

Not too strong…just too strong for Gouken. You’re supposed to be a dead fish when you wake up with Gouken. I hate this block-tech game sometimes lol.

Actually, properly used, it can function very much like a DP in that you can use your invulnerability window to beat various attacks (not just projectiles). It’s just not idiot proof like a real DP is.

Here’s one example I happen to have on video:

It has certain invincibility frames so it allows you to do that. You can also use mp palm when Gief does EX Green Hand up close, mp/hp can beat Bison’s head stomp follow up, and mp/hp palm can tag Dhalsim and Seth through their long arm attacks, thus some of the reasons I say palm is a good move.

However, palm is worth a damn on wake up. which was the point I made on post #817. None of the invincibility frames on any version of palm help Gouken on wake up. If some one meaties anything you a screwed. If some one does nothing and you palm… you are screwed.

Using the invincibility frames on palm for beating other attacks is reactionary and soley based on if the opponent did a certain move. Srk’s don’t work that way, the only way you beat srks is if you block, stuff/bait it, or use a move that can override it with it’s invincibility frames… and in most of those cases both moves whiff b/c of the invincibility frames on srk.

Palm is no way in the same building as srk. If palm was truly like an srk it wouldn’t be any reason to play with Akuma, any shoto, or just about any body else on the game.

Man, really, Gouken just does not have it THAT bad on wakeup. You have various options. Block, tech, backdash, EX demon flip, EX counter, 3 frame super, Ultra (Denjin is basically safe on block, right?), even EX tatsu if you’re confident.

Yes Gouken’s wakeup isn’t that good. If you’re playing Goouken like you should be, you shouldn’t at all be finding yourself knocked down much outside of a couple matchups.

Goukens got no excuses no more. Gouken players shouldn’t be frustrated with their character any more. He’s really good now.

I’ll try to be easy about this, but before I begin for the love of GOD consider the reason for this thread. It didn’t turn to be 17 pages overnight.

Secondly, most of the things in this thread or just things that we just Don’t Like about the character, which naturally leads to some sort of frustration.

As stated waaaay back on post #817, Blocking and teching are Gouken’s best options on wake up. Period. Everything else is a gamble and flat out loses to Grab or gives the match way for free if you guess wrong.

-He has no offensive move to wake up with aside EX Tatsu and possibly Denjin depending on the situation (Next)
-EX Tatsu doesn’t hit crouchers… which you’ll find all throughout these 17 pages. And if you want to wake up safely with it you will need 3 EX Bars not including the character specific of EX Tatsu hitting the opponent attacking you per crouch tech. You whiff, hover in the air for 24 hours and lose half off your shit when you recover since any and everything can punish it on the way down.
-Denjin is granted once per round, and that comes with the price of you having your ass handed to you to get it or if someone is stupid enough to keep letting you absorb fireballs.

-Backdash works, but any player worth their salt knows to OS you with a normal since it goes no where. Best option Block and Tech.

-EX Flip is a good suprise move on wake up, but anyone pressing up against you gets full punish for Gouken trying it. Gouken EX Flips, opponent walks under and busts his ass. Best option and Tech, or gamble.

-EX Counter- loses to grab or empty. I pity the Gouken that EX Counters everything on wake up.

-Super is a beast. You also get that 1 per match if you are lucky enough to hoard that much meter with out using it on something else and still manage to win the round. In that case you are Blocking and Teching UNTIL you get super since none of his non EX options can beat being grabbed. Block and Tech, or gamble.

I think everyone have things about their character that they don’t particularly like, this just happens to be thread that we use to express that.

With all of this being said, I’m pretty happy with the character and I’ve done quite well with him since Vanilla. His wake up still sucks balls and Blocking and Teching is still his best option b/c he doesn’t have a good offensive wake up move.

A lot of Japanese player these day uses a new wake up options. Which is back tap, then LP LK MP MK back on wake up. It is like an option select wake up tool where it will tech any throw, back dash from any late attack and absorbs any on frame attack to throw option select off. It also avoid late throw and give you enough time to punish those.

Doesn’t work if they do really fast two hit attack/special but it is one additional option. At least it is almost always better then backdash. Since this beats frame trap designs around punishing crouch teching.

Somehow, I’ll get mk tatsu to come out and whiff.

Heard about this like a year ago on these forums. This is like the bigfoot of SF4, one option select to rule them all… or something.

Anyway, I seriously doubts this works. This is like saying do kongo with lp+lk for a tech or low kongo option select.

Of course I could be wrong but I just seriously doubt that shit work like is stated. No I haven’t tested it.

It’s a good OS, but it looses against delayed throws.

I’ve been attempting to test this Godtion-Select wakeup, but as a pad user I’m struggling to find a way to do it effectively. The best I’ve managed so far is to turn off personal actions and use the two shoulder buttons to press all six buttons simultaneously. Mixed results so far.

I would encourage other Gouken players to experiment and post your findings here, this may be the best wakeup option we have if it works.

I don’t think there is a way for pad user to do this properly. You need to press back and four button pretty much at the exact time. It needs to be dead on.

Also, yes, it lose to delay throw, but seriously if you are trapped in the corner with someone right in your face you probably should not use that. Backdash are only good when you have space to back up to. In the corner, only do that to try throw them off. Don’t hope for it working as it can be punished by reaction.

Either way, this beats the lp/lk -> OS sweep / ultra /etc because you absorbs one attack so their OS won’t come out. It is important against character who uses those OS a lot like Saget, Fei, etc.

Try pressing them right in the middle. I guess b/c I have big hands it’s a little more manageable. It feels pretty uncomfortable just like crouch teching with mk on a pad as well. I’m just not too confident in using the stick… I tried yesterday and played for about 4 hours and gained about 200 BP and ended up losing 400 PP trying to use my damn stick. Very frustrating…

There are many advantages to using the stick but I feel like I’m thrown into the dark ages every time I go to it.

Stick and pad have different strength, but most of the top player are sticks. Pads player are few and far in between and rarely able to play a solid and reliable style. In my opinion sticks is far better.

You are really only able to get into stick if you force yourself to continues on it. Take me a while to get used to too but I got much better at it very soon.

Don’t talk shit about pad. Pad is great. Much easier to input motions, especially double motions like dashes or supers/ultras. I have reaction punished jabs on pad nigga.

It is quite physically impossible to reaction punish a jab(with except maybe chuns super and then not vs rogs jab, but maybe someones slower one).

Seriously though, that differs per person. I am significantly faster and more precise on stick than I am on pad(Ive been a pad player for 15 years, stick now for 2) and I’m no slouch on pad either

It works man! Lol go try it nao

Not if you’re anticipating a normal. Any normal. As long as your Ultra is fast enough. I reaction punish mostly with Dudley’s U1. If it has 8 frames or more of recovery, it can be reacted to and punished in anticipation.

If I had my choice I’d play on a hitbox
