Gouken Combos and Glitches

I’m trying to learn the backthrow combos and I’m having some trouble landing the C.HP after the medium punch. What’s the timing on that?

It’s really easy and you do it immediately (at least, that’s how you use s.hp, which I prefer because it does 5 more damage). Are you sure you’re getting the j.mp to only hit once?

Oh the combo is standing HP? I thought it was Crouch HP for some reason.

He could be getting the wrong one hit, hence no fp of any kind afterwards.

Just mash HP when you land… it’s easy. If you’re whiffing the HP, it means you’re not doing the j.MP correctly.

I do it in my cheesy video .

It’s not great, but it is in slow-motion so you’ll really be able to see when you have to hit the j.MP. You have to hit them before Gouken’s arm fully extends, just as he starts to punch… and then NOT hit with the 2nd hit where he extends his arm. Then you just mash HP when you land and the HP combos easily

Basically, you do it right about when it feels like it’s actually too late. Like every other setup he has.

oh ok cool, thanks for posting the video. What’s the go to poke string combo for gouken? I need to work on getting my small combo game better.

I do cr.lp xx cr.lp xx s.lk xx cr.lk because it’s pretty stable. But really the only time you do a poke string with Gouken is when you don’t have enough time to do a cr.hp xx hadouken/demon flip.

I’m not sure if anyone knows about this? Cos I haven’t seen it posted in the Ultra combos. But in the corner you can do EX tatsu FADC full ultra and it also works with HK tatsu FADC full ultra. The timing is pretty strict though from what I gathered. So is this known, or have I stumbled upon a new setup? (Which I doubt)

Also the EX tatsu set up does 487 damage

and the HK one does 462 damage

EDIT: nvm it works with all tatsus.

Yeah it works, but why would you do it in a combo? EX Palm -> hadoukens -> ultra still does more for fewer bars.

Hmm you don’t necessarily have to do it in a combo. I was just talking to a friend who thought it might work so I tried it out. I just checked to see if people knew if this worked. It’s still pretty cool if you’re able to cancel any tatsu to full ultra in the corner.

Problem is that tatsu is so risky outside of combos. If it whiffs, which is terribly easy because all the opponent has to do is crouch, then say hello to your opponent’s most damaging corner combo.

Yeah that is true as well. Well either way it’s another option.

I virtually never use tatsu fadc ultra even though the damage is ok

i did (kongo fadc palm) in a match for the first time last night.
my opponent exclaimed!

Anyone have any tips on doing ex.plam, dash, mp.hado xx l.palm?
Is it possible to do? I have seen it in a match not sure though if there was a fadc involded after ex palm.

you can do this near the corner without the fadc. not right in the corner for a corner combo, but close enough that your opponent can’t fall back anymore because of the space limitations of the corner. i’m not sure if you can do this with fadc outside the corner, but i imagine it’s possible. but i would question if it’s worth the two EX bars for the FADC for just a little bit more damage - maybe if the opponent’s health is low.

It’s not worth the meter and you don’t get any greater damage. It can’t be done mid screen without FADC on Ryu, didn’t try it on anyone else. Wondered why Shine did it in his match against Lincoln so went into training mode.

Is there a midscreen FADC option off the EX palm that does more damage than RH hurricane?

I normally FADC the EX palm into j.mp > FB > sweep, for the knockdown, and because I like to screw around with combos… but it would be nice to have something to do besides boring ol’ hurricane when I want some damage. :stuck_out_tongue:

Just Ultra really. Hurricane Kick’s his most damaging special so nothing else as far as direct damage goes.

If you want a really confusing reset, do the jump strong, close short when opponent is close to landing into an immediate forward jump crossover into anything.
