Gouken Combos and Glitches

I suppose that this is already known but I think that if you have ultra and super and are feeling flashy, you can cr.mp, tatsu, fadc, tatsu, fadc, ultra. Haven’t been able to do it yet, only until the second fadc, but I suppose there’s no reason the ultra won’t work after the second fadc.

Ultra or ANYTHING for that matter will NOT connect after a second Hurricane FADC hit…

Keep the speculative combos out of here. We’ve already had a slew of this crap not long after the game was released.

No need to be that harsh about it.
Obliv, problem with the c.MP, 2x [HK Tatsu, FADC] Ultra
Is that the second Tatus hits them when they are already in a juggle state. Most moves don’t re-juggle someone who is currently juggled.
Best example of this is EX Palm. if they’re in a corner, you can’t just EX Palm, HP Hadou, EX palm (timed so that both hits land), and then repeat the HP Hadou -> palm to get crazy combo. They are changed from juggle state to falling state, which although you can land a super/ultra on falling state, you can’t get the 3-hit ultra.
Test that after 2x [HK Tatsu, FADC] if you can land a s.HP, or any normal on them, then you can technically juggle with 3 hit ultra, otherwise it’ll most likely whiff thanks to spacing.

Fair call. I guess I was being a right dick about it.

My apologies duder.

Wanted to ask a couple of things.

  1. I noticed EX dash punch > dash, RH tatsu wiffs on El Fuerte. Anybody knows what charaters don’t get hit by the whole thing? I really don’t feel like testing it on the whole cast if someone already knows this.

2? Any useful links? I mean, the only decent combo starters are c.MP and c.HP, as far as I’ve seen. Is there any way to chain into specials starting with c.MK or c.LK?

Undestood thanks a lot, I didn’t know about the rejuggle stuff, sorry if the question annoyed anyone.

  1. el fuerte, dhalsim, and i THINK sakura. It’s harder than normal on Guile. Everyone else is fair game I believe. I haven’t fought sak in a while so I can’t verify on her.

  2. Sadly no. You can do c.lp c.lp s.lp s.lk, you can do c.lp c.lp s.lk s.lk s.lk, you can do c.lp s.lp s.lk c.lk… these are all cancels not links, so you cannot cancel into a special. Basically the answer is no, there are no useful links (you can do like c.hp, c.lp to link, or crap like that, but… why).

Thanks for the answers.

I’m only playing Gouken as 2nd when I get reaaaally bored of Sagat on casuals, and I strongly belive tht he’s not as overpowered as people tend to see. Definetly not as solid as Sagat, Seth or Gief.
I mean, he has the counters, the easy to land Ultra ans stuff, but that’s about it. Crappy pokes, shitty priority, you HAVE to be point-blank to do some decent damage… He has no reliable anti air and nothing but Ultra or the counters (and if the other guy is smart, he can mix high-lows, or delay the attack) to stick in between blockstrings.
But most importantly, he really SUCKS at mid-range. What you do at that distance? Dash punch? Oh yeah, get reversal DP into FADC bullshit. The demon flip is not that good, nothing links into specials at that range…
But he’s still a fun to play character. Those corner combos and mixups are sexy.
Just my opinion tough.

hmm… i disagree with all of that.

his pokes are great, c.mp for life. No chun or anything, but definetly still good.

You don’t have to be point blank to land a FA or c.hp, which are 1/3 of anyone’s lifebar. Air fireballs also equal significant damage.

c.hp is a very reliably anti-air.

Midrange he is king - do mp fireballs and watch them try to do anything. Of course if you throw out a random dash punch you’ll get punished - why would you be doing random punishable moves?

demon flip is not that good? If you do it out of the blue so Sagat can get a perfect s.hk on it, then sure it’ll lose. But you can force a scary scary guessing game from it.

People don’t falls for random FA at this point anymore, and close.HP is definetly point blank range.
I have to test HP as anti-air, but overall, I still don’t see Gouken that good. He has too many weakneses to be anywhere near top tier.
I guess I just don’t agree with you maybe because of my Sagat experience.

But as I said, he’s a very fun character.

saying he’s nowhere near top tier, but there’s still a lot you don’t know about him is pretty halfassed of you. I understand you only want to play him as an accessory, but knowing very little about a character yet being positive of his high-level tier placemenet is just stupid.

close hp is good, but who’s talking about point blank range? I’m talking about just outside of jab range, when close.hp becomes far.hp and useless, and c.hp is the man.

I’ll discuss all this stuff again once I’ve played a couple sessions with my friends.
This is just my 1st impression.

I’m sure I speak for everyone when I say we can’t wait to hear your in-depth analysis of Gouken.

Whatever jerk. :looney:

Nope. Like Dhalsim only the first kick connects.

Been answered many times I’m guessing, but can you jab him out of his dash punch?

I’ve been punched out of it a few times. I’ll say YES.

Yep. Though, the timing is crazy tight. You’ll have balls of steel if you attempt to do this with some consistency.

Thing is, rarely is a palm going to be thrown out on its own for shits and giggles. You’re either eating palm during fireball tossing, in a combo or falling through the air - i.e. when you are vulnerable.
