In today’s matches i started to use ex palm out of nowhere to see if i can surprise… they try to punish me, but ex palm is not as punishable as normal palm, so i used ex tatsu and hit them every time.
But then they started to just block and wait after my ex palm, so i do an ex tatsu, they blocked, and punish me on the way down.
Next step was blocked ex palm into backthrow, and when they started teching… blocked ex palm into ex demon flip, grab.
Now i have another pretty mindgame. Now i don’t mind using ex palm out of nowhere if i can predict a hadouken… and if i’m wrong, it’s a good mindgame
What is s.fp?
What are Gouken`s abare combos? Is there something like lp,lp,dlp tatsu?
The only similar combo imo is the trial combo c. mp, dlp, tatsu which btw whiffs against crouching Blanka. I tried to connect from dlp,dlp etc but it just doesnt work.

s.fp is "Standing.Fierce Punch"
unfortunately his jabs don’t link so you can’t s.lp s.lp c.lp xx HK Tatsu (standing light punch x 2, crouching light punch, heavy kick tatsumaki[QCB+HK])
thing is that most of gouken’s combos do ridiculous amounts of damage once you land them, especially the corner combos. 50% of of ONE ex bar + you reset them for a mix up/possible stun?
If he could cancel his lp chain I’d say he would definitely go up a tier or two. You can however cancel 1 lp into Tatsu. In fact I think any normal that can be canceled can be combo’d into Tatsu.
As it stands, gouken is a gimmick type character who relies on you correctly guessing what your opponent intends to do. Guessing correctly usually nets you massive damage, at least 20% in most cases where as guessing incorrectly doesn’t always mean they get a massive combo on you(unless your guess was to EX Tatsu, in which case they get anything).
not as dirty as lp srk into ultra. i shake my head everytime i use ryu and land this. Then there’s the srk (trade hits) into ultra. Or every1’s fav sagat… tiger uppercut (and purposely aim to trade hits) into fwd HK into ultra. There are alot of things out there lamer than the back throw into ultra. Dun forget that it is easier to tech gouken’s back throw. The only way u cant tech it is if u did something stupid and got punished which is ur own fault.
Well, the linking is less of a problem than the overall crappiness of the jab - at least for me. It gets really boring and frustrating to have to throw tech so many times in a round and if I miss the tech I have to deal with a terrible wakeup game.
Probably already known, but Gouken’s best combo off of light attacks is:
c. lp, c. lp, s. lk x3
It does 140+ damage and you can either stop at the second s. lk to do a c. mp xxx demon flip/hadouken OR you can do all three and follow up with either a standing rh or walk up c. mp xxx demon flip/hadouken.
I should also mention you can do a c. lk instead to hit low at the last hit, tho you will probably end up at more of a disadvantage. I gotta say I really like the damage on gouken’s kicks, particularly s. lk since it does 40 damage and you can buffer 3 of them in.
I usually only do one s.lk, i didn’t know we could do x3, this is interesting.
In Siyko’s vids, he usually do c.lp, c.lp, s.lp, s.lk, …
I’s already know too, but the transition between the low kicks and punches into c.mp xx demonflip/hadouken is unsafe, an enemy can shoryuken here if they mash it… If he does that, next time cancel it into a counter and beat their shoryuken, or block and wait
omg… hp > ex palm > dash > hk tatsu combo doesnt work against dahlsim. At first i thought it was due to lag when playing on xbox live. But i went to training mode and couldnt land it on him either. Any1 else having the same problem?
I thought it was common knowledge that only the first HK tatsu hits in this combo on smaller characters (dhal, sakura, elf) unless you FADC - which I don’t since it is a waste of meter. Just use mp palm (easy to land) and continue pressure.
I have some success with dash and standing HK - > demon flip mixup after ex-palm as well.
just wanna say thanks for this - most of the time distance only allows two s.lks because you dont want the near one to come out - but this is just a little more damage off a very common situation, so why not
I need some help. On goukens training hard trial 4 I cannot seem to hurricane kick fadc ultra. I do kick focus concel and dash and see two rights on training mode showing I dashed and then release, but the FA comes out instead of the dash!
Is the timing different when you fadc special vs just doing it to bait or on normal moves?
