Gotham (Commissioner James Gordon Origins TV Series)

This should be interesting, to see how fucked up Gotham gets to make batman have to come into it

I am totally into this. A lot more than I am Agents of SHIELD, anyway.

I can’t think of too many batman villains who would be ruined if you tried to jerry rig the origin story aside from the Joker.

Don’t forget the first episode will be aired tonight at 8 PM EST on FOX.

sorry but this looks absolutely shit but am gonna watch cause the kid from the OC looks like hes gonna give another oscar winning performance :2thumbsup:

Initial reviews seem promising at the very least…

Time says:

… surprisingly fresh … Gotham is not reinventing the dark cop show, or the dystopian drama, or the superhero genre. But it combines them in a way that’s invigorating – and, honestly, it’s probably better than a new series with this built-in fanbase needed to be. …
Hitfix says:

… The pilot itself is among the best you’ll see this fall. It looks great, the two leads have instant chemistry, and everything hums along nicely as a slightly larger-than-life crime saga. …
HuffPost TV says:

… Bruno Heller appears to have a reasonable grasp on the challenges faced by a show in which Bruce Wayne is merely a grieving young boy, and not the center of the action. Is the pilot worth a look? Yes. I’ll be watching and hoping it capitalizes on its potential. …
The New York Times says:

… The real star of the “Gotham” pilot is its consistent style, a combination of production design, cinematography and writing that manages to evoke both the bang-pow 1940s spirit of the original “Batman” and post-”Blade Runner” neo-noir. …
The Los Angeles Times says:

… A surprisingly thoughtful and satisfyingly noir prequel to the “Batman” odyssey, it introduces viewers to all their favorite heroes and villains before they were same, and reminds us all of a time when the real superheroes were men in hats who carried a badge. …
The Washington Post says:

… a good-looking, intelligent Batman prequel that might entertain even the most superhero-fatigued viewers among us. …
The San Francisco Chronicle says:

… has a lot going for it, at least judging by the one episode Fox sent to critics. … While other comic book shows try to replicate the fantasy of the source material at every level, “Gotham” tries to walk a thin line between realism and fantasy. It seems to work …
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette says:

… If a vibe is all it takes to make a TV show successful, “Gotham” is a winner from the start. But realistically, it takes a lot more than strong production design and that’s where this Batman-less “Batman” prequel loses steam. …
The Boston Globe says:

… the strong cast could make this one fly. …
TV Guide says:

… It works for viewers who don’t know Batman at all. … McKenzie proved he could play a square-jawed hero on Southland and his chemistry with Logue’s jaded, ethically challenged Bullock makes for a delightfully dysfunctional duo. …
USA Today says:

… a heavily stylized, surprisingly violent DC Comics extension of the Batman brand …
Variety says:

… Taken strictly on its own terms, the Fox series is a handsome, gritty crime drama, with Ben McKenzie as the idealistic young cop and Donal Logue as his grizzled, ethically compromised partner. …
The Hollywood Reporter says:

… arrives as its own entity, a wholly realized universe, in a separate time and place, with enough intriguing characters and a stylized visual presence that is immediately intriguing. …

Not Gotham the show related but definitely Gotham related. LOL!!

Also I’m liking what I see so far but I am bias towards Batman.

with any luck it means wont be getting any Joker stories.

I’m liking the show so far. A good time to be a comic book fan this fall.

I must be the only one who thinks this show sorta blows. Aside from Ben McKenzie and the dude who plays Bullock a lot of the people feel forced in how they’re portraying some characters. Smith herself was never this bad at acting so I dunno what’s going on. The dude who plays Penguin is okay but he’s so fucking bitch made it’s sorta looking at a different character. Nygma also stinks.

And what’s up with Alfred? All of a sudden he’s pretty much a goddamn child beater. Instead of Bruce becoming Batman to avenge his parents he’s going to become Batman to kill Alfred clandestinely.

Yeh there are a lot of issues I have with it too. Jeremy comes up with a lot of good points

Jada Pinkett Smith’s character is very theatrical (all the villains are), she seems like she should be in BoardWalk Empire. Alfred sounds like a london taxi driver, waiting for him to start wolf whistling when he finally meet Gordon’s mrs

my main issue with the show is all the screwy ages of characters. like they are gonna put in harvey dent as someone who looks in his 20s/30s but him and bruce were friends and like college like buddies. that wont make sense. it seems like they arent thinking too far in the future for this show.

This show is all over the place, ep had some low points and some high points. Still on the fence with Mooney’s character, she just weird when she’s trying to have a normal conversation, great when she is angry. I wish Catwoman was in a coma now, no idea why they keep bringing up her character for no reason other than to remind us that she’s meant to be catwoman. Penguin is just boring, the mob bosses are far more interesting. Bruce Wayne is great, kid was pretty good playing the silent role in Touch, but with so many shows unable to write good characters for child actors he has been quite entertaining even with his limited screen time.

Glad they didn’t have anybody in a gimp suit running around on venom lol

Am quite pissed off, show started off majorly strong, then 3/4 through the 2nd episode it just started turning to shit. Ah well good effort I guess lol.

I was slightly turned off by the drug idea in this episode, but then I had to remind myself that the universe is Gotham (where beings such as Bane, Killer Croc, and Poison Ivy exist) and that this was before Bruce had became Batman and that the superpowered villains began establishing themselves. The show had a nice flow with just the non-superpowered villains who had nothing but their brains, guns, and henchmen at their disposal, but the gas that turned people into beastial individuals with enhanced strength threw me off.

Due to being a fan of Catwoman, her minimal appearances since her “spotlight episode” kinda bug me. Maybe I missed something, but she only appeared after Gordon spotted her in the street, and after that she didn’t show up later at all. For a character who apparently knows the identity of the Wayne’s murderer, she’s not getting much screentime (she literally just vanished after leading Gordon to the wallet, but that was because she didn’t want to stay the orphanage (?)).

I like Fish Mooney, but what was the reason for hiring that one chick? It was kinda creepy having her seduce her and then later treating her like she’s her daughter (though the fight scene for the auditions between the two girls was kinda funny). Now thinking about it, I don’t get that “I’m a boss ass bitch” vibe from her as much (then again Falcone kinda overshadows her). Cobblepot is entertaining at times, though.

First ep that I’ve found entertaining, maybe because it had barely any Penguin and no Mooney in it at all. Again pointless reminder of Catwoman. She’s stolen something that will be important to Bruce and so the writers will force her back into the story later on. LOL isn’t Wayne Manor miles away from the city and anybody else, she just trekked that shit because there isn’t anything worth stealing in Gotham?? Stop with the perching on shit, you are a human being.

They are so heavy handed with the Riddler references. Enigma is going to have a very short criminal career if the best he has got is the wolf rabbit and a cabbage riddle.

It was cool looking back seeing Bullock was just like Gordon when he first started.

lol at MLG Bullock with the aimbot clutch win taking out the GOAT.

Gotham is pretty decent, not stellar but it has potential. Penguin is kind of annoying, as is the lesbian cop trying to perma-cockblock Gordon. I really want to fastforward all this buildup and get to the major villains and Bruce honing his skills.

Sometimes I feel a Sin City vibe from other eps other than Gotham.

I felt like the show wasn’t progressing as well as I wanted. But this last episode was money. Shit was going down. But I think the show will probably fizzle out soon and be done by 1-2 seasons. I don’t think people will get the chance to see the “major villains” since they really don’t do anything significant until Batman actually shows up.

Bump

Where everyone at? Just finished season 1 and I’m loving it so far. Young Gordon is a beast.

Unfortunately everyone on this board hates this show. LOL!! I did like the Season 2 premiere. And they have Jessica Lucas on the show now. God is good!!!
