sol is the exceotion the main creater created sol after himself and made his mover have higher priority he has an INFINATE, his dust kncoks u down (if a counter) only slayers and his do that. other than sol everyone is blanced. CHIP SUCKS ASS UNLESS UR AN EXPERT PLAYER FROM JAPAN
Well said. I could careless about tiers (I play Yuri in CVS2). I really didn’t understand Zappa at first but now I do now. I need to try him out in training mode to discover any combos. I base alot of Zappa’s strats around the sword summon.
I play GGXX on PS2 and I have seen some nasty stuff for EX Sol&EX Jam. Although these characters aren’t in the game would they rate different if they were.
Do’h, I’m no expert:(
The thing with Chipp is as soon as you let go of the momentum it’s really hard to get it back. With lower vitality it’s harder to take risks because one counter hit means at least 1/4 of his life. He’s fun to use, but there’s no way I’d use him for competition at the arcade (since it costs $1 per game) until I get MUCH better with him.
If you knew as much about experts from Japan as you claim you would know that they don’t consider Sol the best character in the game (they say Eddie). Sol is not the only character with a corner loop, Baiken has one and Johnny has one until he runs out of coins. Also Sol and Slayer are not the only two characters with air dusts that knock you down on a counter (Slayer’s won’t knockdown on a counter, Sol’s will). Eddie’s does it, Axl’s does it, Johnny’s, May’s and Testament’s are some that I remember also knockdown.

This game rulez.
Sammy got it right.
i think sol will rule the us he does insane damage off anything he touches you with. and hes effortless to learn
Wow, you really do sound like an elitist. I guess then maybe you are. Sol’s loop combo does the most damage out of all the characters you’ve listed and there’s 0 penalty for it, (no rc, no coins, just get them in the air. f.p anyone?) It is also the easiest to learn. Although Eddie is top top top tier in Japan, I don’t see him winning tourny’s left and right, I’ve seen some sick slayer stuff but, nothing that won that person the tourny. In the top levels these tiers don’t even matter. You’ll do good if your a newb with Sol instead of Eddie because sol is really easy to learn. Thus making him top tier here.
“Japan’s top tier …” Well were not in Japan. sigh I wish you people would stop comparing US to Japan in every gaming topic. We beat japan in MvC2, why can’t we do well in GGXX?
Chaotic Blue
I’m not sure if Sol is top tier, but he’s definitely one of the best characters in the game. There are just soooo many ways to set up his loops… FRC gunflame, run in and they’re at your mercy; heck you don’t even need to be in the corner for him to mess you up. I find it extremely hard to get out of FRC gunflame if I block it, but if I jump it’s a free DP… Once it’s blocked it’s hard to see if he’s going to do a dust, crouching moves, or even command grab (I hate the command grab:mad: )… either way you’re pretty messed… Of course I’m pretty new to the game, but so far it’s really hard to get around FRC gunflame and many many other Sol tricks… That being said, everyone in the game is good too but Sol seems to stand out as at least top 5.
If correcting someone for giving bad information makes me an elitist, than I guess I am one. I never say that Sol’s corner dust loop is not the best of the dust loops, I simply state that it’s not unique to Sol, since at least 2 other characters have one. DOC FAUST also claimed Sol/Slayer were the only 2 characters who’s dusts (I assume air dusts) knocked down on counter hit. I named 10 or so characters who I use or see used enough to know their dusts also knock down. I’m not sure where I said anything wrong.
Other than that, I’m not sure if anything in your post is directed at me or not. I don’t claim Sol is not an easier character to use than Eddie and I don’t claim that Japan is better at XX than the US. I understand why you’d be sensitive to something like that, but if you read what I said, and the post I was replying to, I don’t see where you can make that inference.
everything in this game is perfectly air-blockable…just IB or faulteldess defense that junk and punish. if there were simple fb-dp traps in this game i’d laugh
Nono… I didn’t mean Sol’s all about fb-dp traps; that was just an example of what he could do… you can still get air thrown if you jump can’t you?.. Anyway, my point was that there are many ways for Sol to get an opponent in the air and in the corner.
hey, that reminds me, i think i found a glitch in the game… i tried to air block potemkin’s heavenly buster super the other day, and I COULDNT DO IT!!! potemkin still got me! Instant block, faultless defense, it didnt matter, nothing worked!
potemkin’s broken! potemkin’s broken! he’s so cheap! i hope they fix that super in ggxx reload.
zappa’s fun to play with but the random summons are a bastard sometime.
You’re kidding about that being a glitch right? The super is a grab so you can’t get away, but you could always hit him out of it…
I know what you mean, I usually die waiting for Raoh.
If there is an anti sol in the game(i dont know why youd need one)its faust,im telling you i was playing this one guys sol with jhonny and slayer and even eddie gettin mopped i pulled out faust and cleaned him, fausts reach and quickness pinns sol down.
Range strength speed and priority, sol only has 3, his reach with his normals is horrible take advantage of that!Faust Slash goes rite past the gunfame, even his shitty ass teleports can help vs sol
seriosly just save every burst you get (usually 2 or 3)to counter a loop, save super for counter attacks on after gunfame pressure, then what does sol have ok speed ,crappy supers, no reach, cant chip,no crossups or mix up games(well some),basically hes alot like cable if you can avoid his only sorce for damage hes just pretty good not great.
there are some good points but i think that it is about time to have a fighting game without the unbalanced bullshit! But as of right now I am learning Ky and Jam but with Ky I like his anti-air game and as for Jam i like her air combos that can link for serious damage.
But after playing with every characters i say that there shouldnt a top tier, but if you want it then I’ll say Dizzy. Her combos are very damaging and her overdrive combos are sick as well.
The balance of a game will tell you how comparable the top and bottom tiers are, i.e. in msh the top and bottom tiers are seperated by a little, in MvC2 it’s probably huge, but it’s still always there.
When people say their going play competitively, yet ignore this concept, it is alarming to me. Just like studying the players… knowing who is powerful and why has helped me in my game. If I’m playing a match that should be 7-3, and I 'm going 2-8, I can evaluate whether my opponent is exploiting a personal weakness, or whether he just knows something about the match that I dont.
Remember that tournaments are about who wins the event, say a match is 8-2, i see 2 wins there, if you move those 2 wins to the front, then you’ve won a tourney match. Nothing in these discussions say ‘lower tiers shouldn’t win’, or ‘don’t use them’, it actually defines how to win from both sides. Generally speaking tho, ignoring the reasoning behind the 8-2, will have you losing 10-0.
With that logic, the only matches deemed ‘unplayable’ in a tournament, are 9-1 and 10-0 (or 10-0 in single game, yet another point for single game tournies ).
- Most tiers are formed by a 10 match grid and adding the win totals, i believe this is still pretty valid, since then we can discuss individual matches instead of overgeneralizing.
I have no problem saying that sagat is top 2 in CvS2 by far, but also say that I could take eagle against a sagat of my level. I don’t feel that’s contradictory nor is it “backing down”.
Carry on, i just wanted to rant. i had a question about air blocking but i moved it to a new thread. And if anyone is an english major revise my post for me and pm it back, i don’t know how to make some of my points as clearly as i should :).
Yea this game actually IS pretty balanced. It’s like. there are 10 great chars, and the other 10 are just good. Everyone has SOMEWAY to do damage, which is what defines the character’s worth. Tiering is how accessable and easy getting that massive damage actually is.
That being said, I’d say people like Johnny/Sol/Millia/Slayer are all very good because they can get damage pretty easily, while chars like May, Zappa, and Anji can DO damage, but it’s more of a challange to pull it off. Think about it, is it easier to mash dust, or try to get 8 orbs through random bonuses? Yea.
For the record I use Testament/Venom/May, and I still win…sometimes. Just depends on your preference and dedication. I know Jam isn’t that good but Cblue wins with her.
