GGXX top tiers?

Yeah, HS has too much lag. I don’t know if the developers purposely did that or overlooked it. His QCFX2+K super is actually useful. See, it does shit damage when you combo it off of his normals. To get more damage out of it, combo it off of his slashes. My way of doing it is S, S, HS XX super. I was messing around with Chipp earlier today and have figured some neat shit out. I might post a Chipp Thread.

ky is the only character worth playing…

sol is broken… johnny, faust, testament and zappa get honorable mention…

All of those characters are great especially Faust and Zappa. Zappa is a little weird to play as at first because his spirit summons are all kind of random unless I’m missing something. His sword summon is great IMO. I haven’t utilized the dog all that much though or the other summons.

From what I’ve seen, these are the tiers:

Top Tier: People with massive amount of skill
Top Mid-Tier: People with slightly less skill
Mid Tier: 4 Year olds with muscular dystrophy
Bottom Tier: Button-mashing Scrubs

Bottom line - the game is well balanced enough that there are no real exploits. Pick the character that you feel would suit your style of play the best, and run with it. Obviously, some characters are easier to adjust to (Sol and Ky come to mind), but once the experience comes you should be able to compete with whomever you choose.

zappa’s summons are random

in my opinion. all the summons have different uses:
Doggy: Defense, Trapping
Ghosts: Offense, Zoning
Sword: Soul Gathering to get . . .
Raoh: MURDER DEATH KILL OWNAGE!!!

the tiers for the ghosts are:
Rao
dog

ghosts
sword
once u get rao out u almost always kill people

The arcade I play at just got GGXX today!!!.. neways, I guess top tier doesn’t matter now that I’ve had a chance to use everyone. I was able to run up a little win streak with potemkin today:D … I’d probably use Chipp more often if he didn’t take damage like a bitch…

I use I-No and Ky myself, never really cared about tiering all that much, sometimes a person just has to use who they feel comfortable with, I do feel at times to much emphasis is placed on tiers.

The only reason I wanted to know the tiers was so I’d be able to pick up a character and hold my own; that was before though. After playing for a while I noticed this game is very balanced and there really aren’t any definitive tiers. I guess I thought it’d be like CvS2 where picking C/B/S would allow even a newby a chance to win:p . GGXX is kinda like 3S balance-wise; every character is unique yet every character is also playable at a high level (except maybe May (?)… she’d be like a Sean)

Interesting, but U.S. tiers don’t mean shit. We’re all scrubs compared to the Japanese.

I’m curious why you rank May near the top. Most rankings I’ve seen put her near the bottom. However, I’m a hardcore May player, and refuse to believe that she sucks…so, what have you seen that makes her good?

Fuck the tiering idea. I seriously think that this game is balanced with perhaps the exception of Sol. Everybody seems to play very well and can each hold their own. I think tiering applies to other fighters such as MVC2 and CVS2 more so than GGX2. I mean, fucking MVC2 is so broken it’s not even funny. 4 fucking characters can easily kill the other 52. It’s ludicrous. Anyway, GGX2 seems to give everyone a fair shake. I mean, everybody appears to be useful. And Yes, although I don’t play as her, May is pretty cool and can prolly kick some ass if used correctly.

If you think Sol is the exception to the game’s balance you don’t know what you are talking about. There are characters that are much more unbalanced than Sol.

I bought the game about 2 weeks ago. I’m just giving my first couple of impressions on it. I haven’t played all the characters to their fullest, but from what I’ve seen so far…Sol just seems to be in somewhat of a different league than everybody else. Someone else in this thread also talked about how Sol was broken and I agreed with that statement, but again I have yet to play this to the fullest so I guess I don’t know what I’m talking about:rolleyes:.

You shouldn’t go repeating the opinons of people that don’t take the game seriously. Sol isn’t broke by any stretch of the imagination. Eddie, Faust, Axl, Baiken, Millia, and Johnny are all more broken than Sol. Sol’s not the only character with a “corner loop” either. Find some more educated opinoins [not me, better than me ;)].

Oh, and yeah actually, when you haven’t played the game to its fullest then you don’t know what you are talking about. Sorry to sound elitist, but if we listened to every newbie who claimed Sol was God then we’d be stuck in the caveman days of trying to play this like a capcom game and not GGXX. Sol has an invincible DP, whoo, he’s broke  Sol doesn’t have any unblockables…

(…expects Beast of Fire to come in and correct me for that statement :p)

Geeze…much more to learn in this game. At first, I didn’t realize how deep it was.

Actually I would kill a newbie C/B/S in no time, you still have to know how to play, but anyway that was kinda my point. People start playing a game and they just want to know who the top tier is imediatly, instead of finding out how they are good with. Remember just becuase there top tier doesnt mean you can use them as well as lets say a mid tier character.

actually it does matter, since the bulk of that list is from japan standings and the fact that even is something is high in japan does not mean US can duplicate it…

Correct. Also one of the dog attacks is unblockable.

zappa being near the bottom doesnt bother me, even though zappa is my character. Due to the fact that nothing he has it truly abuseable. Even raoh can just be turtled against. Now if raoh had an unblockable setup that led into his juggles, then he would be really abuseable.

However, that shouldnt stop anyone from playing him. As many of you know, these tiers dont necessarily mean anything, as your area may not have any good faust or eddie player, or maybe there are a couple mays who just clean up at the arcades.

In my area, its scrubland, nobody but me is playing the game with the kind of devotion, so my zappa is considered cheap as hell. I try to say “but everyone says zappa is like the lowest tiered guy in the game” but those arguements dont phase them.
Disclaimer: dont want to sound like im bragging. i am seriously not very good. its just that i dont have proper competition so im the best of the scrubs.

Tiers are more useful in a fully developed environment, and playing zappa in one of those environments has a real benefit: Every time you win, you get to feel extra good about kicking ass with a character considered low tier. And every time you lose, you dont have to feel so bad, because you are fighting an uphill battle.

In closing… more people need to play zappa. I need to steal your strats and combos.
