Faust is not top tier. Your avatar sways that point in me thinking that it’s your opinion. Faust is nice, but at best, he’s placed within the ranks of medium.
You wrote off May too quickly. Despite the fact that she is a bottom tier character, her forward punch is almost as strong as Johnny’s, and she has alot more than just that stupid punch. Heavy Slash? Crack someone with that like, 3 times, it’s usually a stun. It’s anti-air as well. Not to mention her Jumping Dust is really good.
Just thought I’d clarify. Too bad she’s still bottom Tier. -_-’
Faust is the second best in the game. He has combos that do hella damage, stupid priority, stupid ass range, and lots of mixups and mindgames. There is no way in hell faust is medium tier
May’s one of the worst in the game. Her heavy slahs as an anti-air… wtf are u smokin?no way in hell is that move an anti-air, come to think of it her heavy slash is useless, and May’s foward punch is nowhere as good as Johnnys so scratch that idea. IMO the only thing that may has is forward punch until thier stunned and destroy, thats it
maybe i did write off may too quickly, but faust is like tha best in the game and you are calling him middle tier at best
does anybody play faust in your area, if so ask them if they have heard of these things called buttons. with faust, you push buttons and you win! ok, not quite that easy but i would stake racer-x’s left nut on the fact that faust IS top tier
Blar, I’ve managed to knock the hell out people jumping in on me, as long as I start it a little early, it usually sends them away.
And as far as I know, Faust is good, and I have seen Good Fausts in the arcade, but with May, I have been able to beat him, yet, I can’t beat Sol, Eddie(Sometimes), Milla, or some of the other top tiers. Might as well forget potempkin. Eeeeesh! Thus giving me the conclusion that Faust like all characters, has a weakness, and while his Mind-games are quite fustrating, I can put him down. Where-as Ky for example, I can’t quite deal with his High/Low stuff. Annoying. Now, before you beat me with a wooden sword and tell me that the player must have sucked, nope. After I beat his faust, he turned around and used Baiken and beat me into the ground. Soooo…::Shrugs::
That’s why I’m thinking he’s somewhere in the middle.
And as for May…I HAVE knocked Ky out of his “Ride the Lightning” with it. May’s has more reach than Johnny’s, but his is alot faster, pops you up(Which sets up for that annoying as hell combo…), and I think, hurts more. Not to mention all that other shit I mentioned earlier. I know she’s bottom tier and all, but damn, she has more than that punch. Jeez.
^^ try a fuast that turtles and back self up with loads of random crap and some that dont jump lurcking and waiting for u to jump 2 him then hitting u with f+p even if it ties the counter hit can set u up for a combo
personaly i play biaken and here its not easy getting in on fuast let me correct myself a good faust i can safely say fuast WILL not make it easy
kevmon is rite dude, jus cuz u can beat ur local faust doesnt mean u can beat every faust now. faust is considered top for a reason, maybe its cuz, hmm he owns and has a ton of priority over chars like may.
as for her f+p, dude its nowhere near anti air, and her s. heavy is totally useless so ur point about that being AA is invalid. may literally has nothin goin for her. i mean if u wanna win wit her u have to abuse the ring dolphins, i mean thats her whole game IMO but then again thats how i play her so i dunno how else to play her.
Believe me. It is an anti-air. EDIT: I mean her F+P had priority, not AA, her Heavy Slash has AA. Not capable of shutting down everything from the air, but it has some priority, and it works. Better than Restive Rolling, that’s for sure.
Back to Faust. I went up there just tonight (Just got back actually…) and what do you know, I fought a Faust. Yes he did play keep away, Yes he did some odd combo’s, and yes, that stupid door crap is annoying. Didn’t stop him from catching an anchor in the head. Or blowing himself up. I don’t know how good Faust is really, because I’ve only seen one really, really good Faust and I beat him.
And if he’s so good, Find me a vid with him in it. Until I see that, I still say Faust is in the middle somewhere. Or, Top-Middle. Sheesh…
And Back to May…Do I think she’s top tier? Hell no. Not even close. I only use her because I happen to like her for the character, not the moves, so I just deal with it. If I get my ass whooped, then I get my ass whooped. Her main problem is that she doesn’t have a single move that would qualify as devestating, and doesn’t have some ungodly like combo’s (That I can find…so far) and she has odd range capabilities. So, at best, I’d say she’s Low-High Tier. Not terrible, but nothing really doing about the “path of destruction” either.
get on mIRC and go to #gamecombos. go into a random server and DL like a million match vids with faust. then tell me he is mid-tier. i dont think you will be able to.
Faust is top tier because he has a few crucial things:
most likely the best projectile in the game. Sure it’s random, and sure it’s not always going to benefit you and give you a a “instant” projectile like the hammer. But it’s the best for the simple fact there is almost no recovery time. I have done low p(blocked) into the projectile and never been punished for it. Secondly it’s also the best because Faust can have multiple projectiles on the screen making the round all the more confusing.
His set of normal attacks are ridiculous. A perfect anti-air(f+p) that is cancellable and does substantial damage off a counter hit and quite fast. I long range standing and low poke, standing s. and low p respectively that are also both cancellable and chainable. He has a far reaching overhead (f+HS) that’s only downfall is it’s recovery time which once again can be cancelled. He has a good set of long reaching air attacks which become exponentially better due to air FDC.
IMO Faust is easily the best basic character. To win with him you don’t need to do anything spectacular, or ridiculously hard(except maybe air FDCing). He has random elements but they almost never harm him(IF THE PLAYER IS GOOD WITH HIM). Both supers are decent to good, he has worthwhile FRC’s and RC combos. His mix-up game is fairly decent which is pretty much crucial in GGXX.
And I can pretty much say this, most Faust players do not use the dissappearing attacks mainly because the ground ones can be beat ussually by a standing p, and the falling one can be seen a mile away. Typically Faust’s gameplan is to run away and frustrate the opponent into making a mistake, and then doing a decent combo that knocks them down and applying mix-up meaty or just running away some more.
I have played lots of match-ups and this is personaly opinion from personal experience.
He’s no Millia though ^^;;, and Millia is no BoA **

Edit: KENSOU DOESNT PLAY MEI LI! HAVING HER IN HIS AVATAR IS A DISGRACE TO ME >:P
Faust is top tier no doubt…no if, ands, or buts about it. come down to TX and we’ll be more than happy to redefine Faust for you…these guys pretty much hit the nail on the head…
btw, kensou, i did not completely drop Sol…he will always be in my lineup but i just find that Baiken has an easier time with some of the cast…that and her bitchy attitude.
… rumor has it a kid from japan learned how to make most of his moves with slayer invincible using the dash frames. point out the bounce! can someone explain how jam’s burst cancel is done?many a characters have untouched potential waiting to be seen. just a matter of time. game 0n!
Here’s a cut and paste from a post on Burst Cancelling I did over at the Gamecombos Jam forum:
The motion I use for burst cancelling is:
B, F, B+HS+D+(very slight delay) S
I do it all as one smooth motion. Obviously, the initial B, F is for the parry. Then you go to back so you’re set for FD. Then you hit (and hold) HS+D, and after a very slight delay, you hit S. If you played CVS2, it’s pretty similiar to doing Roll Cancels. You’re hitting S almost at the same time as HS and D, but with just enough of a delay that it doesn’t get counted with them.
If it works, then you should see a brief frame of Jam’s parry animation before she goes into FD. The burst should never come out.
If you want an easy way to practice it, go into training mode and record Ky throwing his HS fireball. If you burst cancel correctly, you’ll parry/BC the first hit, and the rest of the fireball should go right through you.
Also keep in mind that you don’t necessarily have to use HS and S to do the BC. Since you’re just doing Parry XX Burst XX FD, you can use whatever buttons you normally use for Burst and FD. Find a combination that’s comfortable for you.
All that being said, it’s risky to go for a lot of the time, because if you mess up your parry timing, you wind up losing your burst.
I would also say that you should make sure you’re good at parrying before worrying about burst cancelling. BC’ing won’t do you any good if you don’t know good times to parry stuff
