japanese rankings are VERY VERY different from US rankings… it’s because we can’t/aren’t playing at their level yet, and the characters aren’t being used at their full potemtials…
sooner or later, US rankings will match those of japans…
until then, i hope i’ll be the one that takes slayer to the top.

also faust is top tier and we r well aware of that. as for slayer being the best, i still in a sense find that hard to belive when u got zato putting him on lockdown for free. not to mention faust getting free air combos off of counter hits from AA. and even still how can u deny millia’s stupid mix ups? granted that this information came from sum magazine from japan doesnt mean that its totally acurate. in all honesty how many slayer players in japan actually win tournies? hmmm…none that come to mind? xactly. sum may place but the higher tiers still own that foo.
as for sol being ranked high here…i dont kno about that at all. we dont even have many sol players here due to the fact that he’s scrubby. no offense to u ppl that like sol but IMO he’s scrubby as hell. we only have 1 or 2 SERIOUS sol players here and they do pretty well but 1 of them has moved on from sol to baiken while the other stays tru to sol. i belive sol is the char u run to when u dont wanna take ur game higher and learn a harder to use char. i mean its jus takin the easy way out of playing a better char. granted that sol is practically balanced, in the long run he gets owned by top tier, period. he’s played 1 way and 1 way only, there is NO other way to play sol, his game plan is set the instant u learn him, no mix ups no nothing, jus a str8 forward char. and if there r any sol players that r going to reply to my statement claiming that they r gonna play sol differently…PLZ TELL ME HOW U GONNA PLAY HIM DIFF?? wut r u not gonna frc gun flame?? not do dust loop which is ur only saving grace? or how about not doing random uppercutts? or grand viper’s? hmm? didnt think so…its jus these factors that lead to beliving that sol is supposedly ranked high if u will. randomness is easily countered by mind games and pure bait. in conclusion, sol is jus the average middle tier char that jus so happens to be sumwut popular by many due to the idiotically small learning curve, if u can do dust loop u can play sol…nuf sed
i think that there are 2 levels of top tier!
1st: eddie/faust
both are awesome. faust has strong combos, reach, good mixup, easy to use. eddie has super lock down. he just keeps it going till he feels like command grabbing you, then he does.
2nd: millia/johnny
IMO millia would be on the 1st level if she could take a hit. she is AMAZINGLY quick. she has the best mind games in the game. every time she knocks you down she has a 50% chance to do 50% damage! that is scarey!! johnny has awesome pokes(s. slash, s. HS) and he also has the best anti air in the game(forward punch). his combos, no matter how basic or difficult, take how hella damage, and he has awesome guts.
Mid-Top: slayer, axl, baiken, sol, potemkin, chipp, bridgett
these characters are all very good. i ti=hink that most of them are slightly less than top tier. in the mid-top tier range, i think that can be defined into 2 seperate areas also(mid-top1 and mid-top2).
Mid-Top1: slayer, axl, baiken, bridgett
slayer does massive damage, has a humanly impossible to mash out of infinate, and what you could basically consider to be roll cancelable moves/movements. axl has the best range in the game, easy combos and counters. baiken can get 80% damge pushing like 2 buttons, she has good mind games, good run away(throwing mats all day). bridgett has quick pokes, very strong combos, roger super which makes her have a very high chance to do like 70% damage because you cant see that bitch with roger in front of her so she can either do an over head or attack low.
Mid-Top2: sol chipp, pot, venom, anji
sol has a 70% combo with what is basically one button, he also has 12678101982161 setups for that 70% combo. he has an invincible uppercut to boot. chipp is pure speed. i always thought he sucked until recently. i think i have seen what chipp has to offer and that is a lot. his gamma blade is awesome and he has easy roman cancel combos. he also has good setups for air grabs and a teleport. pot(with good charge skills) is scary. he has easy to do combos that are very strong, good range, awesome defense, good guts, decent mind games. pretty scary overall. venom is really good and i would rank him higher but the degree of difficulty is too high for 99.5% of the players out there. he takes more work than anybody and is awesome at locking you down…but it is hard to do. anji has sick rushdown and sick mindgames. if he cant start up HIS game, he loses. but his game is awesome.
“Bottom Tier”: zappa, ky, I-no, testament, dizzy, may, jam
i dont really think that there is a bottom tier but if i had to make one i would put these characters in it. all of these characters are scarey in their own ways but all of them have too many flaws. if zappa gets raoh, YOU DIE! otherwise, it is hard for him to do a lot of damage without taking a lot. IMO(although many will disagree), Ky is bottom tier. TO ME, he has no good mind games, no good rushdown, and no good runaway. however, his combos are easy and he is basic so anybody can play with him. I-no also has sick mind games but sucks if she cant start her game. testament’s only saving grace is knocking them down, throwing a net, then attacking wither high or low. if they guesss wrong they hurt, if they guess right they continue to kick his ass. dizzy is a good thrower and has a good rush game…as long as she has time to throw her budiies out. however, i think she loses to anybody with decent range. she also has no “BITCH, GET OFF OF ME!” type of move. may is just ass unless she can manage to hit you with 3 or 4 forward punches, if she does, she gets a free deathblow. jam is fast as hell but i think that her rushdown is predictable. if she can get you though, you will get hurt pretty bad.
these are just my opinions of the tier system. although i have defined these tiers, i think that because the game is so well made, anybody can win, including bottom tier. this game isnt like mvc2 where there are 50 characters but 4 are good. EVERYBODY STANDS A CHANCE, but some characters have to work a lot harder. tell me if you disagree, which i sure a lot of people will!
