"Get out your Popcorn!" Rufus Video Thread

Oh, I know this… I guess the problem is that Giefs can play more unsafely online thanks to their stuff being harder to punish. And they’re way more Lariat/mash-360-prone

I’m surprised at how often Kindevu is able to hit st.FP after hitting a dive kick. His spacing/dive kick placement is really great considering he does it multiple times, against even taller chars.

His strategy is really good too, against an opposing Rufus he throws out EX messiah knowing that he’ll eat an EX in return (1 hit) but taking away his opponent’s EX stock so that he can’t get ultra’d.

In a Rufus ditto if you block an EX messiah, you can do an OS motion, PP to ex snake strike the HK followup for full damage, KK to ex messiah the mk followup for full damage. This obviously works best offline when you can react and choose which punish.

^ it loses to doing nothing, and delated lk follow up. not worth it imo

Part of the option select part of it is that you’re reacting to what your opponent does, so you don’t press PP or KK until you see the MK or HK followup. You have 19 and 26 frames to react if there’s MK/HK followups, with an easy button press giving max damage based on what you react to. If they do nothing, they’re still at least -6 and up to -14 frame disadvantage.

Delayed LK followup, though… first off, it’s a huge gamble without 2 meters to FADC it, so it’s unlikely your opponent will do that followup unless they have those 2 meters AFTER doing an EX messiah… otherwise, it’s pretty safe to assume they won’t try the LK, since it loses to any block and is -18. If you accidentally EX snake strike you are pretty much 100% safe - you are invincible for the start, and a half screen away at the end, and their LK followup leaves them in animation for quite a while. Delayed LK extension still loses to EX messiah, though.

Hi guys, got some videos, in the 2nd and 3rd i was off, should have used more c. mp but oh well, critique please

A blocked Blanka Ultra should be a guaranteed Ultra for you. Once you’ve started blocking the final roll low, you’re in blockstun for the rest of the Ultra, so after the initial low-high-low block, start holding up-forwards and mashing HK. Blanka goes deeper, and that allows you to hit him with a J.HK into Ultra.

I saw you whiff the s. lk, s.hp because of blankas dumb hit box. Use s. mp instead of s. hp and the combo should work.

Ah good to know, i went a little stubbron with the target combo, this sounds better, thanks.

yeah stupid hit box, also misses the target combo if blanka is crounching i think, just dumb. Thanks

wanted to do a money match to upload it on the youtube, pitty i played quite lousy these matches but would’ve been lame to not upload them just because of that. me vs. ryan hart money match first to 3;

Blanka’s ultra is only a low, then a high block. It’s not low high low. The last roll is not low.

My parts in my latest team tournament match.

Seriously impressive Dhalsim match. Also interesting that despite me being a mediocre Ruf who hasn’t even mastered comboing out of a low divekick, your tactic versus Sagat is pretty much exactly like mine. Albeit with much better reaction and punishes. Guess I’m doing the tactic bit right, at least

Hi all,

I am from Australia, and have been playing Rufus for awhile now… Managed to record some casuals with some friends and hopefully you guys could give me a few pointers or spot any habits i should correct.

Some vids I have recorded recently.

check this vid about justin and rufus

haha the rufus part is pretty true, although i dont think he is overpowered by any means. If a rufus player beats a sagat, this usually means the rufus just straight outsmarted the sagat. Same goes for matches against ryu or gief. Gief can make a ton of mistakes against rufus and still win, so i mean if you dont like rufus, pick gief. Although i dont think justin would be free if rufus wasnt in the game. He’d probably produce the same results with balrog, abel, or some other character with strong rush down.

This.

Im having trouble against gief, this is my last video on the tournament here in Rio de Janeiro, got 3rd place, the two giefs I played against I`ve end up losing…

If anyone can give me some tips, I would like it!!

Well for one you shouldn’t be dive kicking on gief, it didn’t pay off for you once and it never will haha. You were doing the right thing in the first round of both games by keeping him out using pokes. Another thing u have to be weary of is the short jump ultra from gief. You got caught by it in the second match first round when you went for a s.hp anti air. It also seemed like you were really hesitant to use meter especially when you would get a free ex snake strike. That move does so much damage and you already had a big life lead so I couldn’t understand why you didn’t use it. You also missed a few opportunities to do regular snake strikes off of j.hk but that happens. Against gief I just work on baiting lariats and blocking green hands and punishing to the maximum. He has so much life and such a strong ultra you really have no chance otherwise. Overall I think you did a good job. Instead of dive kicking try just neutral jumping to bait out a lariat or green hand. A well spaced neutral jump hk will knock him out of lariat and set up a free combo. Good luck!

Thanks for the tips bja_eh!!
The times where I didn’t ex snake strike I think it was because I didn’t had the meter, or if I had I didn’t noticed, the pain in the @#$ is when I’m knocked down, have a little hard time to get away again…
I need to play more against gief to get used to this matchup
