this link has some good video links to japanese rufus players. I recently started playing rufus and my friend has been helpful with the vidz for rufus so i thought i share.

My matches from a team tourney this past saturday. Dead topic needs life. I get greedy sometimes and have learned from these videos.

Good stuff! Too bad you missed that palm -> ultra…
I know right? It’s sad because I loooove fragrance palm but that was on accident. By the time I realize I hit him with f+hp and not neutral hp, it was too late. You can see the low jab as I try to last minute mash it out.
Oh and if you want the exciting conclusion for our team’s matches:
it ends with a bison mirror though which is always gross.
I started uploading some of my matches.
Some feedback and tipps would be awesome…
btw… I know I’m making a lot of dump mistakes

When you took the round with lk XX hk -> ultra against that Guile, why didn’t you use lk -> hp XX hp GT? It would have linked to ultra, it does more damage and is safer on block. And try to use hp XX hp GT to punish shoryus more often. Cr.mk XX EX GT is safer, but it does less damage and costs precious meter.
Hit me up on psn sometime, maybe you can return the favor :P.
Speaking as a mediocre Rufus, I can tell you that the LK-HP link is far harder to get out consistently than LK-HK. Sure, GT is safer on block than the target combo, but in terms of “am I sure I’m going to get this out?” LK-HK-Ultra is by far the easier, safer combo. And when you figure you’ll take the round with the Ultra anyway, why risk it other than to show off?
I understand it’s easier to get out and you don’t want to take a lot of risks with the lk>hp xx tornado but if you don’t keep trying it in a real match it’s going to take you forever to get comfortable with it.
I watched the video again to make sure, but the Guile player blocked the dive kick. He just needed to continue to block or not attempt to tech (whatever he was doing) and our fellow Rufus player would have lost the round. The only argument against HP GT is that it is harder to pull off, but I agree with the previous poster on that one, you really need to learn that combo.
I’m pretty bad myself though
Hehe, the targetcombo into ultra was more of a hail mary than anything else…
Speaking of lk~hp hp gt… I got this combo down to work like 75% of the time… but I’m not feeling comfortable enough to pull it of in a match…
btw… is there enough time to walk forward an do hp xx hp gt after the missed dp (speaking of the lp, mp version)?
I feel like I always eat the scruby second dp when I try this.
MP version, pretty sure you can do it 100 percent. You just need tight timing on the HP to be sure that it hits before he’s recovered, but after he’s far enough down that he doesn’t get hit in midair.
LP version, I don’t think so. At least not online. IF it works (and I’m not entirely up on the frame data here) it’d take really fast reaction… So you might as well practice that LK-HP link

So yeah, this is what I was whining about in the strategy thread earlier. How do I get in? Any advice is great though.
The connection gets pretty bad, but I don’t mind when I’m playing this guy.
I’m new to Rufus but like him so much! Im gonna keep playing him!
These are two of my matches:

any tips are more than welcome!
Cheers!
Stop mashing buttons. You connected an EX messiah in match 2 round 2 but you couldn’t follow up with FADC ultra because you already pressed/mashed HK.
And I know I’m not one to talk, but stop jumping.
+1.
Always a good idea to use light kick follow up on messiah against shotos because it gives no chance for a followup shoryuken/ punishy combo bad times (Though I think ken can mash out an ultra or something absurd like that…). You missed a few chances where you could have done lk > hk > ultra in that first video, though you showed definite improvement in the second video. Same for sort of relying on messiah kick, in the first one you kind threw it out randomly, but it was better in the second. Work on your blocking, cause you ate a few random jabs and a few hados. Also be careful using dive kicks on shotos, against wake up DPs etc. you didn’t get it too bad in those matches but it’s something to watch out for.
I typed a lot. Sorry. :x
Edit: If you do jump, watch out against shotos who know that tatsu will stuff everything you do in air. And if you do jump go for hk > ex.ss (unless you have ultra), cause the damage on that makes me smile~
I’m pretty new to Rufus myself but I think I can offer some advice. Stop tossing out regular messiahs. Maybe there’s some application but they’re pretty unsafe. One thing I’ve noticed about watching good Rufus’s is that you rarely ever see a normal messiah. Work on dive kicks in general and dive kick mixups. Most of the time I just saw you dive kick into s.lk and then some more lks. If he’s trying to jab you out then reset more. If he’s mashing shoryu then block and bait after a dive. After a blocked dive, lk then throw or just throw sometimes too.
And punish those shoryus! There were tons of times he whiffed srks and you didn’t manage to get any damage on him. Lp srks are harder to punish but if you have meter, even some simple lps into ex GT would do the trick. He also wasn’t giving you hadou heat so utilize that df.mk to gain ground fast. If you decide to jump at a decent distance then hp instead of diving. In my limited experience, even if he shoryus on reaction, it can trade a good bit of a time. Not a great option but the lesser of two jumping evils. If he’s not spamming you down with hadous, then dont jump. Walk up, dash, roll, whatever. Be careful on his wake up too. A lot of shotos will just wake up shoryu so either cross up or if you’re not in range whiff a dive kick to bait the wake up shoryu and punish. I’m also not sure if trying to AA j.hk on reaction is a good idea. I’ve always been stuffed when I try it and he seemed to j.mk you out of it a good bit as well as toss out lots of random air tatsus. Ss, ex ss, c.mp, or just block.
I guess my main advice over all is to take it slower and steadier. When I started with Rufus my mindset was rushrushrushjdkfaslkfdarawr. If you’re not careful about getting in and (especially against shotos) once you get in, you’re gonna eat a lot of random crap, even against bad players.

LOL moment at 0:23
There’s about 16 recent matches of Kindevu playing the fat man on this guys channel, he plays against Mago, a couple of Zangiefs and ryus. This is definitely worth checking out. He is really exact about his dive kick placement. Kindevu be tappin that ass. There are also matches of other top japanese players as well, all recent videos as well.
Man, watching those Gief matches make online play hurt so much more for me. He’s getting away with blatantly unsafe stuff that’d get me Lariat’d or Ultra’d in an instant online.
Also, is it just the framerate messing with my head, or are these matches moving faster than the version we’re playing at home? And I’m not just talking about online here (that most of them move slower is a given).
I would argue that’s it’s the other way around. People online do wildly unsafe stuff all the time because tight frame punishment is much more difficult when there is latency. Offline punishment is far easier.
Amazing vids, thanks for posting them. He has his match ups down tight.
