While Gen is stuck in the corner you perform the following: Back Throw, Dash x1, Mantis Ultra 1 (You can be in Crane and switch to Mantis in the middle of the throw)
So far the only way I’ve seen out of this is Mashing Supers, Ultras and SRKs. Even Gen’s EX Gekiro gets out. BUT! I’ve get to get out with a Charge move, EX or not. I was able to get Balrogs Super out but it auto corrected followed Gen into the corner and didn’t even touch him. I’m not saying it will never hit him, but it seems pretty useful vs charge characters.
I’ve been able to land it on everyone but the follow:
Things like this make me love Gen so much, even if it is something you can only do once against someone it is definately useful for online play and as a final trick up your sleeve in a tournament lol. Nice labwork bro.
Thanks. I almost had it in a tournament but when I pulled off the throw and dash, I didn’t have Ultra. I was so pissed. But… I did stun and do FA3, Taunt, Crane c.Short, Mantis Super, Gekiro kicks.
Once it’s out in the open I’ll try to come up with other options to make it look like you are doing it but catch them the right way if they guess cross up.
Also I’m working on other options to cross people up. like forward throw and sweep timing, nothing yet.
Oga Cross-ups after Mantis U2:
Ryu & Ken & Dan & Akuma - Slight walk back MK Oga
Fei Long - MK Oga
Ibuki - Slight walk forward MK Oga
Makoto - Walk forward MK Oga
Blanka - Walk back LK Oga
I really don’t like those kinds of tricks. The big problem is that it’s not a mixup; once your opponent knows about it, they’re just going to mash. No one’s going to sit there and hope they can guess right. It’s not fast and it’s not surprising after the first time. It’ll work in casuals, but you’re just making it more well known and less likely to work in matches that matter. It’s the kind of gimmick that needs to be saved, not spammed, because there’s no second level to this.
Oh, and it does work against Hakan, he just gets up slower than normal.
that’s why you keep digging to find other options to make them guess as a 50/50. It’s no different than an oga cross up IMO. from the way you talk you make it sound like they are a sure thing. All you have to do is mess up the timing by a few frames then they guess wrong. It’s no different than Bison’s Psyhco Crusher Cross up. All you have to do is block it then super.
I’m not condoning it at high level play, nor am I saying use it all the time. I’m putting it out there for people to mess around with. Remember this game is about having fun as well??
I did the super, s.LK, ultra 1 cross up in a tournament because I wanted to put on a show. If I lost it’s not like I’m playing Russian Roulette. If it were evo and i had nothing else to do… maybe, I just might do something gimmicky like that. But probably not. So let other decide if they like to use it or not.
EDIT: Also this is the Shenanigans thread, what else do you expect?
This is indeed the Shenanigans thread, is there someplace else I should comment on one? I’m not bashing you or anything, just saying how I think the trick should be used (or saved, in this case.)
The good thing about Oga crossups is that they’re reasonably hard to punish, so it’s high reward with low risk. There are multiple layers to it as well, with identical setups using a different kick to hit on different sides, and dropping off the wall to bait reversals. It’s also fast enough that even if people have seen a setup before, they can still be hit just because they don’t remember in time.
Crossup ultras on the other hand are very high risk, and I wouldn’t say there’s no second layer to them if I hadn’t played with them myself. You can change your timing, but it still loses to mashing, and even back dashes at midscreen. It will easily work as a surprise, but it needs to be a surprise. I once tried hitting a guy in casuals months apart with one of these, and it was so slow that he remembered to EX green hand.
Well this thread is for any kind of trick, be it the recent ´discovery´ of oga cross/ups after TC2 lk gekiro combos or the mantis ultra corner cross/up. I think all shenanigans can have their uses at some point, obviously the corner mantis trick will only work once as a ´final trick up your sleeve´ kind of thing (or online it´ll probably work lol) but as long as you only do it after careful consideration and not early in a match/tournament it can be useful. Just because something isn´t the best trick to be discovered…it should still be shared, ergo this thread.
I do understand yeb, but whatever. Sharing shenanigans is always good =)
Just pretend you’re in panic and walk forward and back after throw instead of dash then do timed Mantis Ultra 1, then shout out “fuck I screwed up” for mindgames. Works up to local tourney. Only works once, and the one who got tricked by that will never forget about it. The second part doesn’t work against antisocial ppl or those who have headphones on. I mean, nobody is saying mindgames have to be happening only inside the screen, right? xD
So because I was kind of frustrated that I could not get the TC2 lk gekiro mk oga cross/up on Ryu with quickstand I decided to look for alternatives, and so I found one. On Ryu you can also do TC1 into lk gekiro juggle high and then mk oga, it´s really easy this way. I am going to look into more TC1 setups, I have a feeling it will yield a lot of good results against quickstand. =)
*I should say that I used mantis j.mk before the TC1 as my combo to get it to work, you can also do it with a naked TC1 though but I suppose different normals preceding the TC1 will yield different results. List below will be added more to after further testing. I test all of these with a naked TC1 into lk gekiro aswell as a neutral jump mantis j.mk preceding the TC1.
**Oga cross-ups with TC1 lk gekiro with quickstand (for characters which are hard to cross-up with TC2 gekiro > oga on quickstand):
**
**Ryu: **MK oga - juggle high gekiro
**Ken: **MK oga - juggle high gekiro
**Yun: **MK oga - juggle low gekiro
**C.viper: **MK oga - juggle high gekiro
**Cody: **MK oga - juggle high gekiro
**Akuma: **MK oga - juggle high gekiro
s.Strong on block, then go into TC1. I’ve got a few people with it. Kinda advanced and doesn’t leave too much room for error. But off topic, it can be great for going into hands (you only get the first hit to FADC) to super.
Cross/up jumpins (in the corner for example) with mantis j.mk or crane j.mk. They are visually quite deceiving, also finally a setup that works on Sagat. You can also combo into it from an FADC hands combo like c.mp hands FADC or s.mk hands FADC and ofcourse TC2 hands FADC provided you´re opponent is not facing a corner anytime soon lol.
Anyway, it works really well for Ryu, Ken, Yun and Yang. For sagat this is the only alternative since he cannot be crossed up reliably with TC2 quickstand crossups, and Ryu and Ken are very strict timingwise so this is a pretty good alternative to them aswell I´d say.
Also the frametrap with s.mp Messiah just mentioned works pretty well too.
EDIT: meh it doesnt work very well on sagat at all, Sometimes it hits and sometimes it doesnt it seems to depend on how long you hold back as Sagat aswell =/ Oh well it was worth a try. Atleast it is real easy on Ryu Ken Yun and Yang.
**Juggle high gekiro = **Try to juggle the opponent as high as possible, a fast gekiro rhythm is required.
**Juggle medium gekiro = **try to juggle the opponent around the same level as Gen is during the gekiro, sometimes you need to be slightly below Gen or just slightly above in some cases. This is usually stated if it says 'medium/low or ‘medium/high’. You need to get a feeling for it basically.
**Juggle low gekiro = **Try to juggle the opponent as low as possible. I found it the easiest to start of with the first 3 hits (lk gekiro = 5 hits) at medium level and then slightly delay the 4th hit to make your opponent drop below Gens waist. Again practice makes perfect. Ofcourse you can also just slight delay your first gekiro hit and go from there if you wish.

*None of these setups work reliably or at all on Dhalsim and Abel.
I think this a fairly reliable list of things that work well if done properly. Some are easier to perform than others but that is to be expected. I hope this can be of use to you guys and while it fun doing this I really need a break from the training mode now LOL.
It has some unpractical ones as well, super reset cross-up is in List3. The most practical one is not yet started lol. This time the file won’t expire!
Oh nice compilation list, I don’t plan to use the cross-up after super much since I rather go for easy extra damage with the ultra but for some characters that have some leniency in the timing it can be very useful.
Thanks. It overlaps in parts with Canto’s list, but I think we could combine the two and optimize the options available to him.
Late Cancel is annoying, but after getting used to it, I don’t mind it anymore lol. It’s just that the opponents walk forward and make it whiff (not cuz they know, cuz they lack fast enough reaction in online, at least according to my friend who plays me. I don’t use it a lot in offline casual matches/ranbats).
